Inching closer. Have an appointment for tomorrow evening to pick out a car and nail down a deal. Got the pricing already (discounts), but they have locate a car so final price depends on accessories lathered on a particular unit. Then just have to wait a few days for it to arrive.
I am really tired of shopping though. At least this deal is all via internet, email and phone. Assuming no gotchas at the dealer (not expected) in which case I just leave and go to the next one!
@iluvmysephia1 congrads to you and your wife on the move and living in an new City! also nice congrads on the new job! good to no when it comes to the apples! eventually now you will get the car you want! to keep it on topick! lollollol
@stickguy this is all grate news! for you! but will mis your car looking and test driving postings! are you going with the dealer in PA that you did use back in 2015 when you got the current car you have now? or you using the local dealer that you whent to yesterday and an few other times to look at cars at?
well, I have not gone in yet to finalize, but so far, the price was strong and the process was easy. Actually, next best was AAA if you are a member, They were not far off.
Shuttling my kids in between hockey games over the weekend. 2 games for the Pee Wee (Son #1) & 2 games for the Mite (Son #2), we saw a drop dead gorgeous Saphire Blue Metallic 2018 911 C2 Coupe. As we passed the guy who was sitting at a ligt waiting to make a turn, I honked & gave him a thumbs up. My (almost) 6 year old daughter says to me: "Daddy. Do you like that Porsche a lot?" I told her that I love the 911 and it is one of the most beautiful, amazing performing cars ever produced.
She then tells me: "If you really want one, then you should get it. But in Black. It would look sick."

Wedding was beautiful, my daughter-in-law had converted last year because she wanted to, so a nice Jewish wedding...we were very pleased. Got a bit cold for my wife, about 46 but windy. Still, we had a blast! My oldest's boyfriend turned to me at dinner and asked if he could marry her! Looks like we're having another wedding, sometime in 2018!! Been a crazy few days!! The Hertz is within walking distance of our hotel and stopped by yesterday just to confirm things. Almost 7 a m now, checking out at 11 and then go get the vehicle. Swing back over to get our luggage and Indianapolis...here we come! Then onto Nashville, Macon and then home by the end of the weekend. Then, back to work as I need to make some $ after what I charged since Thursday! Saw the kids off this morning and now going to relax. Will miss Chicago but think we'll be back as the kids are going to live here. Used Lyft for everything since leaving last week and it's so simple and seamless! Once my kid fixed my iPhone settings, worked like a charm, very impressive. The Escalade L was the best though, great way to arrive at a wedding!! Funny, the Lyft driver a few minutes ago was in a new Elantra but a gray color. Very impressive looking!!!

Just looking at the Golf SEL for 2018 online and hate to say it but I like it! They tweaked the exterior just like I would do with chrome pieces on the fascia in the right places and not overdone. The new dash is so much better than mine! Probably has all the safety nannies my wife would love plus Apple CarPlay, who could ask for more! Seriously, have never gotten the same exact model before but the SEL pushes all the right buttons for me and I know it fits on my side of the garage! Partial towards that grey color but not sure I could do a black interior in Florida. They've tweaked this vehicle just enough that it might be worth it to get another one in a couple of years. The mid cycle refresh could really be the sweet spot for me actually as I wouldn't have to go CPO if I re-up with another VW. As much as I do like the 328i, and I do, not sure I could give up the versatility of a hatchback. Time will tell!

Was playing with some numbers in my head. Need to verify in a spreadsheet, but pretty sure that with the deal I am working, it could be cheaper to buy and resell after 3 years than it would be to lease. Especially considering fees. Not that I am planning ahead or anything!
Still possible I also transfer to the princess if I get antsy sooner than that
The Element lives! I guess they dodged a bullet. Diagnosis: bad rocker arm oil pressure switch. Its failure will cause the engine to go in to limp mode. Total: $336.04.
Thanks B. Yeah, it is kind of a natural progression. Way more stuff on it. Though IIRC the current Jetta Sport probably has more features (a Jetta SE is equipped similarly to the Elantra).
I just got my worst tank of fuel economy ever from the Optima 1.6T. 26.4 according to the computer, and it shouldn't have been any different from my usual 28-29 MPG, certainly not less than 27 MPG. It has been fairly consistent, so this appears to be something I need to watch like a hawk. I was already borderline disappointed in the fuel economy, especially considering the high stated EPA numbers, but at 26 I'm upset about it.
Tire pressures are good; just got an oil change last week, maybe they put in the wrong oil? Something is off, as I said, it was super consistent at 28 MPG +/- 1 MPG deviation.

Are you still considering the 2018 Accord, or is that off the table? If so, some costs to maybe consider vs. the 2018 Elantra Sport are what I think of as "transaction costs"—sales tax, title, etc. If you're buying the Elantra with the thought that you already might get rid of it, maybe it's not quite the right car for you? Or maybe it's just that you would like a new car every few years. But there's a chance, just maybe, that if you buy a 2018 Accord, a "next generation" vehicle, that you'll be ok with owning for maybe as much as 6 years. If that's the case, then, in the long run, it might be worth the money to buy up to the next level of car and potentially be satisfied with your car for a longer amount of time. In terms of your daughter, it's nice that you're thinking of her, and since I have a daughter myself I can understand this, but as others have said I wonder if it's time for her to make her own car purchases....? All just my 2 cents, of course. As I know you will, feel free to ignore....

Yeah right. He must of meant trying all of the Accords, a sedan, a coupe, a hybrid, etc. Then it makes sense...

Thanks all. We're just north of Louisville KY right now on our way to Nashville. Saw a battlefield near Lafayette Indiana today, a lady at Wendy's told us we must go. Tippecanoe monument, very very cool! In a Hampton Inn now, ate at Bob Evans, we don't have them and wife wanted to go. Onto Nashville tomorrow for two days. Then sleep in Macon and home Saturday night. Oldest's birthday Sunday so they will help me return rental at my office and come up to our house for cake. And talk weddings as we have no clue what they r thinking. Hertz fave me a 2017 Nissan Versa sedan with just over 11,400 on it. Clean and drives nicely, economical too. Wife will drive after Macon and wanted small.

Benjamin, always appreciate your input. Yes, I am not going to be getting an Accord now. In the future, who knows. As to the daughter, I have supplied my last car to her. When July comes and she needs a new one, depending on my mood, and what she wants, will consider letting her buy it off of me. But it would go into her name. Assuming it makes sense with warranty, etc.
Right now though, I wanted something a bit smaller, on the fun side, and cheaper to get it paid off sooner and put money elsewhere. Part of that plan is, once I pay this one off, we will upgrade the wife's car to something fancier (probably the next RDX if they ever come out with it!)
though of course, if I do stop and see one this week, until the new one rolls over the curb, it isn't official! But this week is kinda nuts already. Somehow, the week before I have a new client going live (enough stress all by itself to take me down) I decided to buy a car, and got sucked into getting a 2nd foster dog tomorrow (to go along with the one that we have had for the last 2 weeks!) I guess it will all keep me young, if it doesn't kill me off.
So, some details. After much looking and discussion with the wife, decided to stay to a real budget. and both just wanted to go new. And would not go back to a stick shift at this point. Which all of course narrowed down the field. So after lots of looking, kept coming back to the Elantra sport. And debated color, but finally settled on the white one (red being the other choice). Narrowed down further after trying Apple CarPlay (loved it!) to prove I don't need built in Navi for an extra $2,000 (though the premium stereo is probably nice, the base one sounded fine to me).
Now that I had a target, solicited a few dealers that I preferred, and got some respectable to not that good offers. So fired up Trucar Sunday, and sent request to them (and AAA buying service apparently). some quick emails and a few phone calls Monday, and had a few really good prices. One in particular, at a different dealer in Philly than I dealt with before. About $700-$1000 cheaper than the other guy. And ~$1,400 cheaper than the local Jersey guy. I really did not feel like haggling back and forth trying to get other places to match (not expecting it to happen anyway), so, went in tonight to meet with sales manager. Experience was a bit odd (definitely a disconnect between the efficient Internet department, and the sales floor). But, after some back and forth, a deal that basically matched what the internet guy had proposed was on the desk. Different accessories (car had to be located and brought in so a little higher I think for that) so best I can figure, ended up being about $75 more than I had scratched out. But the one they found had the exact accessories I wanted on it, so all is well.
so finally got details ironed out, and approved for HMFC financing (big shock there, since I just finished paying them every month!) Car should arrive by the weekend, though I am in no hurry (dealer trade from about 30 miles away). Still have 2 weeks left on the Sonata, so will hang onto it (daughter is flying home to visit the weekend of the 27th and will need a car anyway). Plus I already paid, might as well use it!
Price was low enough, planning to put a modest amount down (about 15%) and finance the rest with Hyundai over 60 months (intending to pay off in 2, 3 years max). Really did not want to lease again this time, and the payment will only be about $60 more than a lease.
Price? MSRP was $24,325. Paid $20,099. So a total of $4,226 off sticker (no dealer add ons, just straight Maroney). $2,750 in rebates and finance incentive. And $1,476 dealer discount (well behind Invoice on a 2018. No clue how or why, but I am not arguing). Even with tax and tags (I hate NJ!) and $138 dealer doc fee (much lower in PA), total OTD is only about $22,100.
Didn't quite get my goal of below $20K, but we are getting the homelink mirror which is a nice bonus (no need to find the clickers).
So, assuming no hijinks when I get there to pick it up (probably Saturday morning), I should have it home this weekend, and will just return Sonata in a couple of weeks (probably when I have to go back to pick up the plates). If they do try to pull a fast one, I just leave and get my CC deposit back.
Actually pretty excited to be getting this. and a ton of car for the money. Could easily be a nice affordable LT keeper, with the next car splurge going to a family truckster for the wife, or a toy of some kind for me!
thanks. So do I. Nice having the fall back of a car outside I have to take home anyway, so can pull the plug and walk at any time! It is actually a really nice car too, and IMO a good value. 5 years of BtoB warranty is not bad either.

I know because I had a ride in it this past weekend to the Denver Cars & Coffee meetup, which is held in the town where I live.
He offered to let me drive it, but I declined. The Type R was getting as much attention as some of the display cars that were there.
Question for the group - there was an NSX for sale there - 127,000 miles for $54K. Only slightly modded. Fair price or no?
