But there's a chance, just maybe, that if you buy a 2018 Accord, a "next generation" vehicle, that you'll be ok with owning for maybe as much as 6 years.
6 years? Huh?
How is the Type R doing?
Great! Thanks for asking. Like @michaell mentioned, we went to a Cars ‘n Coffee this past weekend, which was fun. I parked the Type R on the outskirts, outside where people were parking to “show” their cars, but people still made their way to the Civic to check it out. I happily unlocked it so a couple young men could take a look inside and sit in it.
With about 1,500 miles on it, I’m starting to really settle into it and the way it drives. I appreciate the way it’s still fun to drive without pushing it hard - with nice responsiveness at half throttle and solid handling. But when I need/want the quick acceleration, it comes on easily.
I seem to get the most attention from WRX owners. Several will pull up next to me on the highway to take a look at the Civic, then pull away with a “thumbs up.” I caught one in my rear view mirror snapping a picture, and another one doing the same in the Home Depot parking lot as I was walking toward my car.
thanks. So do I. Nice having the fall back of a car outside I have to take home anyway, so can pull the plug and walk at any time! It is actually a really nice car too, and IMO a good value. 5 years of BtoB warranty is not bad either.
Breld, decided to go with white. Looks sharp on the car, wife and daughter both like it, and no worries about getting tired of the red. Definitely did not want more gray or silver.
so finally got details ironed out, and approved for HMFC financing (big shock there, since I just finished paying them every month!) Car should arrive by the weekend, though I am in no hurry (dealer trade from about 30 miles away). Still have 2 weeks left on the Sonata, so will hang onto it (daughter is flying home to visit the weekend of the 27th and will need a car anyway). Plus I already paid, might as well use it!
Price was low enough, planning to put a modest amount down (about 15%) and finance the rest with Hyundai over 60 months (intending to pay off in 2, 3 years max). Really did not want to lease again this time, and the payment will only be about $60 more than a lease.
Price? MSRP was $24,325. Paid $20,099. So a total of $4,226 off sticker (no dealer add ons, just straight Maroney). $2,750 in rebates and finance incentive. And $1,476 dealer discount (well behind Invoice on a 2018. No clue how or why, but I am not arguing). Even with tax and tags (I hate NJ!) and $138 dealer doc fee (much lower in PA), total OTD is only about $22,100.
Didn't quite get my goal of below $20K, but we are getting the homelink mirror which is a nice bonus (no need to find the clickers).
So, assuming no hijinks when I get there to pick it up (probably Saturday morning), I should have it home this weekend, and will just return Sonata in a couple of weeks (probably when I have to go back to pick up the plates). If they do try to pull a fast one, I just leave and get my CC deposit back.
Actually pretty excited to be getting this. and a ton of car for the money. Could easily be a nice affordable LT keeper, with the next car splurge going to a family truckster for the wife, or a toy of some kind for me!
Congrats!

Sounds like a great Elantra! Please let us know all the extras it comes with as I have no clue what comes on a Sport model. All I know is they drive nicely and think the long warranty is great. I do know that my kids '08 Accent is still running strong and in great shape with about 30K on the clock. She's still happy with it and is keeping it for now. She could afford a new Mini like she's always wanted but said makes more sense to keep it and save her funds for a condo, smart kid. Think you did the correct thing buying an Elantra at this juncture as it's beaucoup vehicle for the money and the 5 year B to Be is just the icing on the cake!!

@stickguy - I meant to ask you - have you thought about signing up for Uber to take advantage of the $1000 Hyundai rebate? I don't believe you actually need to drive, just sign up.

huh. that's interesting. I've found a few articles. apparently you have to be a registered driver with uber but don't need to have actually driven anyone, and there does not appear to be a time constraint (meaning you can be signed up a day before and still qualify). https://www.carsdirect.com/deals-articles/guide-to-uber-incentives-on-new-cars

while visiting the Hyundai site, a popup is offering me a $40 gift card to test drive. BUT, it is forcing me to enter a phone number and check a box that I consent to receive "telemarketing calls or texts at this number using an automatic telephone dialing system." I'm not sure that is worth $40. Think I'll pass.

Thanks all. We're just north of Louisville KY right now on our way to Nashville. Saw a battlefield near Lafayette Indiana today, a lady at Wendy's told us we must go. Tippecanoe monument, very very cool! In a Hampton Inn now, ate at Bob Evans, we don't have them and wife wanted to go. Onto Nashville tomorrow for two days. Then sleep in Macon and home Saturday night. Oldest's birthday Sunday so they will help me return rental at my office and come up to our house for cake. And talk weddings as we have no clue what they r thinking. Hertz fave me a 2017 Nissan Versa sedan with just over 11,400 on it. Clean and drives nicely, economical too. Wife will drive after Macon and wanted small.

Glad you got a car you want from Hertz. If you are into battlefields, just across the line into GA south of downtown Chattanooga is https://www.nps.gov/chch/index.htm
It was an interesting visit with friends of ours a few years back. They have an amazing collection of guns inside the museum.
Well, it's modded, has paint damage and high miles, so really $42K would be all the money and then some. Seller needs to look at comps. He's dreaming. For his asking price, you'd expect close to spotless, no mods and under 100K miles.

I'm withholding my congrats until you actually drive it away.
Smart man. Probably why my wife not getting over excited too.
And smart woman! You never want to be emotionally committed before going into the F&I office. That's what they count on!
I did talk to hyundai SM this morning, who confirmed he is getting the car. Also gave me The Hyundai financial interest rate finally. That was the only unknown. So as long as nothing magically appears on he paperwork, should be good t go.
I already got and spent my $40 gift card. And yes, there is $1000 rebate for uber. I assumed you had to be approved and legit? Never occurred to me to try that. Probably won't, but might look later.
And I don't like tinted windows. Pet peeve of mine.
Hot rod is relative. But 201HP in a 2,900# car is no slouch.

Gee, stick, I could have given you those numbers, had you asked ...
Ok. Those are the programs. I took the $2,750, so have to go with HMF standard rates (would only get $1,000 incentive with the 0% I think). I actually get an xtra $400 too, by re-upping with them (saving the disposition fee). So Would have had to add that to price of another brand to compare.

I drove the sport and an Elantra SEL pretty close together. much different feel. Not unlike going from your car to a GLI (but in the case of the Hyundais, even bigger acceleration difference I think!)
Ugh I remember when you could pick up a nice NSX for 30K any day of the week.
@breld made the same comment to me, when we were looking at it. There were a couple others at the show; one owner had declined an $80K offer for his.
$80K? Was it a second generation, 2000-2005? They would be worth that. For a 1st generation at $80K, it really would have to be the best one in the world, with very low miles and near perfection. I saw a #1 NSX, 1992, sell for $68K at auction within the last year.
@sandman_6472 glad your daughter is happy with her 2008 she can alwas get that minny down the road! and with sutch lo miles your daughter has on her car for it being nearly 10 years old is grate! will last for ever!

Sorry, I didn't get the details of the other one. All of them had been modified to a certain extent. @breld and I decided that we would want to find one as close to stock as we could find - if we had the money.
