Must be a bad week for me with tires.
    The Sandman :)

I've seen two vehicles recently that had an inadequately tightened wheel come off. Thankfully, both were at low speeds, so not much danger to the occupants, but it really messed up the fender, door (I think), and probably some brake/suspension components. It would be really dangerous if that happened at highway speeds!

@rny421 so the Tlx or Jetta are the contenders now nice nice! would go with the TLX if you can and when you fi nd an nice one!

Oh, snap! Didn't plan on this... Someone is interested in buying my Tahoe. I'm gonna price it aggressively high and hope they don't bite.

In the meantime, michaell, which full-size trucks are leasing well right now?

Seriously? I could get by with an extended cab whatever with cloth seats. Or might just buy a used FWD econobox to get me through the winter (since the Mustang won't). I'd also be interested in leasing another full size SUV, but I don't think any of those lease well.

Yeah, the residuals are crazy high on these - 64% for 36/15. 7% higher than the next best trim.

Yeah, but what is that? A $60k truck? And what is the cap cost discount? Hell, even if $10k off, which seems high so early in the year, that still leaves over $11k depreciation cost. Not exactly cheap.

I test drove a 2015 Acura TLX today. 2015, 4-cylinder, White exterior, black interior. It was much nicer than I expected. It was definitely a step up from the TSX. It had enough pep, and was quiet and complaint on the road. I am pleasantly surprised. My biggest hesitation is the complaints, even about the 8-speed DCT that is in the 4 cylinder. I thought that transmission was better refined? Would I be buying a ticking time bomb like the GM CVTs or the 4-speed GM transmission used in the T6 XC90s?

As of now, it’s between the Jetta and TLX. The TLX is nicer, has more features, presumably better resale, but more expensive up front, and there is the question about the transmission. The Jetta is decent in it’s own right, missing some nice-to-have features, but is a relative steal.

I’m interested in these two TLXs, which both seem like fair deals to me. The black one has less miles, but needs to have the side panel on the driver’s seat replaced, or at least discounted in order to replace it myself. What do you guys think?

    Black TLX

    White TLX

I’ll say up front, I love me some Acuras. That said, I had heard about the trans woes of the 8-speed. From what I understand, it’s a software/firmware reflash issue, which Acura does under warranty. Not sure how many were affected, either.

I agree with @ab348. I believe it’s more a matter of the differences in the way someone who’s never driven a DCT trans, and how they feel about them.

What I do know, there’s some factory warranty left of both of those cars you listed. IF something crops up with the trans, you take it to an Acura dealer and let them know. THey’ll have a record of it. And, IF (BIG IF), something goes awry, you’ll be covered.

Personally, I wouldn’t hesitate on either of those cars. It’s highly likely you will NEVER have anything go wrong with them if you keep up the routine maintenance.

Let us know how it goes.

@kyfdx, can you refresh my memory on how you scored the deal for your Tacoma? Knowing not all dealers may go outside of TFS how did you end up going with US Bank? Did they suggest it or did you?

I'm trying to help a friend lease a truck and he wants a payment around $250/month on a 36 month lease. The #'s on a Colorado or Canyon are not coming out in his favor so I'm started looking at Tacomas and remembered you did pretty good with yours. He's open to having a manual if it means getting a truck at the payment he wants. Feel free to PM if you want. Thanks!

A local dealer was advertising the USBank leases on the truck. Once I found the US Bank numbers, I narrowed it down to the specific model, and started at my closest Toyota dealer (they had one of them). Then, I pushed back, when they said TFS was better.

But, let me check to see what the most current rates are... I noticed my local dealers aren't advertising the USBank lease any more, so that time may have passed (I leased in June)

That 2014 328xi Sport that I posted about a while back (listed at 23,477) is now down to $21,9. Second price drop in less than a month. If it had PDC and didn't smell like a former smokers car, I might be interested.

    2018 Tacoma
    SR DoubleCab V6 automatic 4WD: 77% residual for 36/15
    SR5 DoubleCab V6 automatic 4WD/2WD: 76% residual for 36/15
TRD Sport DoubleCab V6 manual 4WD: 78% residual for 36/15

    2017 Tacoma
    SR DoubleCab V6 auto 4WD: 77%
    TRD Sport DoubleCab V6 manual 4WD: 77%

I have that last one.... the residual was 80% for 36/15 back in June.

One other positive on a USBank lease. If you only need 10K/yr, add 4% to the 36/15 residual, rather than the 3% that is normal (and, not even offered by TFS).

When I leased, my money factor was .00135. Originally quoted at .00160, but dropped to hit my payment.
I'm not sure, but at that time, I think the US Bank base was .00115 (or something close).

I would guess it's still near that range (.00115-.00160).

But, even TFS residuals are ridiculously high.
    For the five models above
    2018
    73%
    72%
    75%
    2017
    67%/
    68%
Granted, not close on the 2017 models, but not far off on 2018
But, TFS money factor is .00225

It is crazy.. That's how I leased a $36K MSRP truck, 36/12 for $265/mo. including tax ($630 due at signing).

@kyfdx, thanks!!! Those RV are crazy high. He would go with 10,000 and as luck would have it there is a TRD Sport DoubleCab V6 manual at the dealer closest to me so I'm using 82% in my calculations and a MF of .00200.

    https://www.daytoyota.com/new/Toyota/2018-Toyota-Tacoma-c4c5c1660a0e0ae844812eb19aee77db.htm

I started working the numbers in my spreadsheet and he's going to need to adjust his payment a bit. If the dealer is willing to knock another $1,000 off the price on the web he would be around $276/month all in. Pretty nice payment for a $37K truck, which looks good to boot.

I would imagine the tricky part is finding a dealer that writes US Bank leases.

I don't know that they are in every state, but they are nationwide, more or less. Even though US Bank is headquartered in Minnesota, they were purchased by a smaller bank, that had been purchased by a bank headquartered in Cincinnati, before that. So, they have a huge presence here, even though headquarters went to Milwaukee, then Minnesota, as they kept buying banks larger than themselves.

But, the F&I guy here says he doesn't even write one USBank lease per month. You'd think that they would be up on opportunities like this, though. At least one local dealer was, because they were advertising the US Bank lease. I spotted it in the newspaper (yes, that thing they deliver to your driveway), and that piqued my interest. The rest is history.. lol.

Instead of finding one with lane departure and adaptive cruise, look for one with tonneau cover and predator steps.. Because he'll want that more... and, getting them residualized will save a lot of money.

I spent $519 on steps, that would have cost $3/mo, if they had been an option on the window sticker.. lol

I just saw your post and adjusted the MF on my spreadsheet. The MSRP is $37,422 and if they knock another $1,100 off the sale price listed on the website he would be at $241/month all in. This assumes an acquisition fee of $600 and a MF of .00135. That's a crazy price. Did you have any concerns about not leasing through a captive arm?

As @28firefighter notes I think the hard part will be finding a dealer that will go through US Bank versus TFS. Though this doesn't mean much in the digital age of banking Pittsburgh isn't in US Bank's physical footprint so I'm not optimistic dealers around here will be knowledgeable of the program, assuming they would go through them.

I got my lease deal with only $1500 off MSRP, I think.. So, you don't have to kill it to get a good deal.

If automatic is important and options aren't... The SR doublecab V6 could be super cheap, as well... Most sticker about $4K under the Sport model. 2017 or 2018

I think US Bank uses ALG residuals, and they update weekly... so, keep that in mind. Those residuals are from January 1st... we won't get any updates, this month.

Thanks for all of your help. He is currently driving a Dodge Dart Aero 6 speed haha. The most luxurious options he currently has are BT and an auto dimming mirror so I don't think the SR would be a problem if he wants to go lower on the payment. He's also keeping that car versus trading since it's paid for. I sent him the ones for both dealers you posted so it's up to him whether he wants to see one or both of them. I'm partial to the beige, it looks good and the truck doesn't appear so monotone.

If no dealer here will go through US Bank I may stop in at one in Cincinnati when we're there in a few weeks when I'll also be tasked with helping my BIL with their purchase of a new SUV. It looks like it's right next door to the Audi dealership so no harm in checking.

Oh, snap! Didn't plan on this... Someone is interested in buying my Tahoe. I'm gonna price it aggressively high and hope they don't bite. In the meantime, michaell, which full-size trucks are leasing well right now?
Wouldn’t a nicely equipped F-150 lease out pretty well?

The residuals on the Ford are OK (super cab only), just not as good as they are on the Sierra Denali.

Personally, I wouldn’t hesitate on either of those cars. It’s highly likely you will NEVER have anything go wrong with them if you keep up the routine maintenance.

Let us know how it goes.

    An update:
I called the dealer with the White TLX yesterday to get some more information on the vehicle. Salesguy was helpful, and was going to get the service report to answer some questions I had.

But, I told him that I was out of state (6 hours away), and laid out my plan if we made a deal:
    • Put $1,000 down on a credit card to hold the car
    • Call insurance company to get insurance card
    • Drive out to dealer with a rental car and cashier's check for the balance due
    • Test drive the car
    • If everything checks out, hand over the check, drop off rental car, dealership puts temp tags on it, and I and head home
That is how I did it when I bought my S60.

BUT - he said that they can't issue temporary tags in Massachusetts. I figured he didn't know what he was talking about, since that's what I thought all dealerships did. Turns out, it's true. Massachusetts doesn't issue temporary tags. So, I would have to pay for the car before seeing it, wait 5-7 days for them to register it in NY and get the NY plates, then go pick it up. I know it would probably be fine, but it's a lot of faith to put into someone.

I'm not sure what I'll do now. Super frustrating that it's not as easy as my last out of state purchase.

well, could just make 2 trips. drive out to see it, if you like it, do the deal and take the paperwork back to NY with you to get registered. then make the rental car trip back out. Can also find one local to test to make sure you like it, before you go. Or, just get the service history, and take a leap of faith.

well, there is also keep looking and fine one closer to home or at least not in Mass.

was poking around looking, and found this. As always, no clue if the price is good. But man, I love the car. And the colors. Might be pricey, but at least has 3 years of warranty left, being a CPO.

So it's probably good when adding 5 MM wheel spacers that your shop/mechanic lets you know you really should get some longer wheel bolts!

Messing around with your safety is probably a bad idea.
