I was targeting a 1991 Prelude Si when I graduated college, so am very fond of those. I ended up getting the newer generation 1993 version instead, which was quite the departure from the previous (and subsequent) style.

I agree - I wouldn't spend much more than $3k for that Prelude. As nostalgic as it is, if you start getting up to the $6, 7, 8k range, you could land a last gen Prelude like @nyccarguy has.

    This just ended at $6,500.

I don't think that's a bad price for that car. There was also a 2000 GS-R that went for $6,100 last week.

It's doubtful I'll go as high as $8-$9K but I'm starting to think I'll need to go up at least another grand and change to really have a chance at something like that Prelude.

Just got back from there. Where are you flying into?

I'm flying into Zurich, I have family in Lugano so I'll work my way down to Montreux/Geneva, then up to see them, then Interlaken and back to Zurich. Can't wait to see it all.

The Accord hatchback on BAT ended up selling for $5,800. More than I would spend but there can't be many out there like it so that's probably still a decent price for a great car.

Avoid the main highways if you have the time. Sustenpass, Grimselpass, Furkapass, Nufenenpass...drive as many as you can. You won't want anything bigger than a 2 series. Lugano has palm trees, which surprises many. Enjoy the trip!

I noticed those same negatives, PLUS the price! Holy cow! $16k is plenty for one with a handshaker.

You'd be lucky to get $12k on a trade.

Those pictures of the two new puppies were entirely too cute.

I just lost my yellow lab to lymphoma last week, and I am thinking about picking up a new dog. My Boston Terrier mix has been looking pretty sad, missing her lifelong companion. But I don't know about a puppy, I swore off puppies a couple of decades back. Too much training, too many chewed up shoes. I much prefer an adult dog. But I will admit there is nothing more cute in the known universe.

I work with a lab rescue, and have fostered a lot of dogs. I really prefer middle aged or better. At least 2. No more puppies, or really young adults (1 YO or so, basically 75 pound puppies!) So many mature and senior dogs need adopting (lot smaller market for them). 4+ YO is perfect.

Ya, losing animals is a tough, but normal/understood, part of the relationship. I grew up on a ranch, and the animals there (even our pets) turned over quite regularly, so I grew up with a healthy dose of reality on those things. I enjoy them while I have them and let them go with relative ease.

My wife, though. She's not quite over-the-top, but she sure gets attached. Our last dog passed on nearly three years ago (should have been 3+, frankly, but she just wouldn't let go), and she still has no interest in getting another eventual heart breaker. :D

Sorry for your loss, henryn. It’s fortunate in a way that my Jack Russell / beagle mix doesn’t like other dogs. If that weren’t the case, I’d probably have a house full. She was three when I got her and was already housetrained and knew a few commands. I don’t think I could deal with a puppy, but they are cute. Instead, I enjoy my friends’ puppies.
  • henrynhenryn Member Posts: 4,289
I used to do volunteer work in an animal shelter, a few decades back. I wanted to adopt every single one of them. I love puppies, but when I was working in the animal shelter I learned that puppies almost always get adopted. We had people coming in looking for puppies, would not consider an adult dog.

So I always adopt a rescue, an adult dog. My preference is 3 to 4 years, and female. Females are easier to break in to a new environment, they don't have to "mark their territory". And I tend to like bigger dogs.

Now this one caught my eye. Labrador Retriever / Newfoundland mix. That is going to be a big dog!

Our dog was two years old when we rescued her - she had been rescued from a high-kill shelter in Elko, Nevada and brought up to Seattle by a pet rescue.

Generally I agree with not having puppies, but even an older dog can have issues. Lila was afraid of me for the first few weeks (just ran away) and didn’t even know how to go up and down stairs.

Sorry for your loss. We lost our Dachshund a little over a year ago and it was very tough. Our new little guy is the first dog I’ve purchased from a breeder in 20 years or so. All others have been rescued so I’m a big fan and admire y’all that give of your time, money and emotions to support those causes. Like you, if I got into that I’d just keep ‘em all!

Yep, had to be pretty rare on the ground these days. My dealer had a 550i stick a few years ago. That was probably pretty fun if the chassis could keep up with the drive train. Unfortunately, in my F30 335i I found that wasn’t the case. Motor would pull like a freight train but the numb steering and chassis just didn’t give me as much confidence as my E92 or E46. I understand its getting better but I was still not a big fan of the steering feel in the last 3 series loaner I had.

I’d like to try out a 2 series. It’s supposed to be closer to the good old days of driving experience that BMW was known for.

Looks promising. Seems like a good candidate to be tuned properly by a reputable shop. What's the 0-60 mph time on something like that? Under 7 seconds? A tick or 2 over 7 seconds?

In stock form the 2.0 is detuned to 180 or 185 hp I believe so I’d guess right around 7 sec to 60. On some of the BMW boards people like the Dinan tune for the 320 but I can recall how much it boosts hp and torque. I priced a Dinan tune once and it wasn’t cheap for what you got.

Agreed. The 90 - 93 was probably my favorite but this is a very close second. Still at $3,400 with just over an hour to go.
I like the hatchback from that late '80's era Accord, and yes, I'd prefer a manual for such a car. I would also hope the extra molding they stuck on would peel off - that's horrendous.

The Sentra SE-R from BAT that @jpp5862 and @michaell also sent me is interesting as well, but at $7,400 current bid, seems a bit rich.
    What year Sentra?

EDIT: This one? Wow!!! that went for way too much, IMHO!

Looks like the Black/Red one suffered quite the boo-boo according to the CarFax:

    4/23/2018

    Damage Reported
    Structural Damage Reported
    Damage to Right Front
    Damage to Right Rear
    Damage to Front

    Yikes! Run away!!

There was a 2015 235i convertible in silver at my dealer with a ridiculously low 8k miles with a very similar Carfax, including the Structural Damage Reported note. It got as low as 31k and then disappeared from their site so it either went to auction or someone took a chance on it.

For today's BaT headscratcher....what in the world? And there's still 6 days to go. Am I missing something?

No idea on that. 152k miles for that money? Dash has a cover on it too. Wonder if that is hiding cracks?
