Sounds to me like he made an illegal turn (without signaling) but it would likely be your word against theirs. If you were stopped I fail to see how it could possibly be your fault.

You 100% should have called a cop. Now? What proof is there of anything? If your car isn't damaged, you could deny everything.

See what the damage estimate is from them. If you want to cover it without insurance, have them sign a release that precludes them from going to your insurance or pursuing any other claims against you arising from this incident and not specifically placing fault.

If they won’t do that, let insurance deal with it.
So you think I am partially at fault?

Edmunds.com is unworkable on my tablet, nothing I do makes any headway. Have sent an email to Edmunds.com asking for help here. Everything I try to do that the site tells me to do to get in touch doesn't work. Confused with this being such a large company, why is there website so wonkey and so user un-friendly? Just makes no sense to me. There must be someone or someway to get me back to my "Sandman6472" name and leave it at that! My frustration level is crazy high right now and if I didn't like this website so much, I would've bailed long ago. So if anyone of the hosts is listening, or cares about the issues a long time member is having, please help me! Just takes one person who has any tech knowledge and who cares about us, your members, to help me here.
    Anybody home out there????

Bradd....I’m sure you’ve thought of this. Once you offer to pay the other party, that makes you automatically “at fault”. If there’s any doubt or argument at all about culpability, the damage is slight enough that everyone walks away covering their own vehicle.....at least that’s my call.

Offhand, I would judge this as a "shared fault" 50% each side. But I'd have to see the intersection. It's not like you were passing on the right. What if it were a parked car?

You're not supposed to run into stationary objects, no matter what, even if they are parked on the freeway fast lane. "failure to observe".

I'd give this one to insurance and let them hash it out. You really have no choice here.

Dishwasher don't work!!! She made a very nice dinner for us and loaded up the dishwasher. It kept making strange noises so we opened it up and damn, no water at all and the door for the washing stuff is still closed. Wondering if they even bothered to try it after it was installed? Again, just part of the "fun" of new home ownership and the reason I'm spending a week up here, for this very reason. Will make sure all is taken care of soon enough because it is starting to get a little annoying now. But dad is here and all will be righted, in time.
Since I've been up here, I've come to a sobering conclusion. I am ready to stop working now. I'm just ready to tell them I've had enough because I'm tired, really tired, and just want to do nothing for a long while. Had time these past few days to really think about it all and I am just tired, and just want to stop now. End of story!!

Do I personally think you’re at fault? Probably not.

Legally? At best shared fault given the circumstances. The more I think about it the more I think you should give it to insurance.

I'm not saying that is the right thing to do if you are at all at fault. But if someone is trying to pin something on you, you COULD just say you never even met these people.

Without the report, they can, and probably will, say anything they want now.

Rear of his car, front of yours. I’ll guess if insurance assigns blame, you’ll lose. Especially if there is technically one lane of traffic there, and not a turn lane.

You being stationary and him not signaling? No witnesses to prove either of those.

Of course, you shouldn’t admit fault to the insurance company. Explain it the way it sounds best. And, I agree, always call the cops.

Sorry to hear about it. That’s a bummer. Wait until your children start driving. :(

New York car guy, sorry to hear about the accident good thing no damage to your car in mine are two beers, and the woman was hurt. We’ll see what their estimate comes back and says and let the insurance companies handle it personally.

So I had an awesome afternoon over here using around with my cousin a lot of dealers store their cars here about 2 miles from my house if that, many different brands of local dealers at the old Roman site from years ago, you could drive in there with the car and walk around each section all cars are open to. Set a nice new RAM, well a few of them. The only ones that have the keys left inside or the Ford’s there from the local dealer where we went yesterday me and my sister. I will start up a new 2019 age but  somebody was walking around there we weren’t sure who they were scared us a bit, probably just a random guy just like us would’ve been no big deal how to go back there again soon and start one up also took a picture in a new raptor Shelby edition, who started that one up to the keys were there in the cupholder. I knew one jeep dealer stored cars there room all these other ones store their hearts they are to what I find today. Type your comment

I really like that Volvo C30. And in terms of styling the C30 is from my pov the best-looking Volvo ever made. That's subjective, of course, but what a clean and functional design inside and out. From wikipedia I found out a few facts about the 2008 C30 that are interesting to me, such as that sales that year in the US totaled 4,299. This is a rare vehicle, which makes it rather special. Next the dimensions are larger than a first generation Mini, but not by a huge amount:

    C30 length 167.4" width 70.2 height 57 weight c.2950 #

    2004 Mini length 142.8 w 66.5 h 55.9 w c.2700

Compared to the Mini I imagine the C30 feels roomy inside. More cargo room too. Plus it should be safer.

You're probably not going to find another C30 in the same or better condition, regardless of price. If this is what you want, you should definitely do the deal before someone else grabs it.

@Mr_Shiftright - agreed with everyone else; that C30 looks great and seems to be priced realistically for its condition. Those Focus ST wheels look good! I wouldn't have thought it without seeing it. Personally, I would add the spoiler at the top of the hatch, as to my eyes, it completes the profile.

You know better than anyone (save @jpp5862) how rare it is to find that vehicle. Get that in your garage ASAP!

@jpp5862 hasn't weighed in yet because he's choked up about the departure of his lovely C30. :(

Yes, it's been my experience that nice clean ones don't last long--only the "leftovers" are still around.

The C30 is bigger than the Mini but just enough bigger. It's a more comfortable car and rides much nicer. Perhaps not quite the "hot hatch" like the GTI or MazdaSpeed3, but close enough, and with a few mods, closer yet.

It's running 18" Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 2 tires, which are very sticky. There's also a set of Sumitomo HTC Z IIIs, but those are 17". I really don't care which size I run.

The important thing is that I would be able to stay with or outrun my friend's 2008 Boxster. His isn't an "S", and the Mini Cooper was actually a touch faster, but didn't handle quite as well. The C30 should be close. I keep teasing him that the Boxster is a girl's car--he doesn't like that--hahaha.

Go for the Volvo or you might be kicking yourself later down the line.
Bradd, let the insurance companies handle this, I would've called the cops like I did when I had my accident but it was clearly not my fault. At this point, from what you'e said, doubt they're going to be "reasonable" and it could turn into a worse nightmare going forward without insurance involved. Big lesson learned here, let insurance take it from here, move on. Trust me, there'll be something else more important to take it's place sometime in the future.
Dishwasher's fine. My kid hit the button to turn on the H2O while putting somethings away under the sink. Seems that new construction has push buttons to turn on/turn off the water unlike the turn knob like things we have at home. They came in, showed us what to do, all is well. Electricians here now to install the ceiling fans and Ring security device. Very nice of the builder to take care of this. Still water plumbing not filled in outside as the city needs to come inspect and give their o k so they can put the dirt back and re-start the sprinklers. Their first concern was to get us clean working plumbing in the house, which was accomplished. The hotel/room service was really over the top and this current gesture is just wonderful and just saves me the installation fees. It's greatly appreciated!!!
Funny, our guest bath knob by the toilet to turn it on/off had a slight leak and had an appointment on Tuesday of last week but it really was for Wednesday, senior moment! But canceled it as the movers were pulling out as things seemed to be back to normal. Will re-schedule for next week on my n/s day and get it all looked at.

Found a Tires Plus over on Rt. 192, the main drag around here. A big construction project going on but all the big box stores are there like the Home Depot, Staples and Walmart we were at yesterday. Also a iHop, Chick-Fil-a and numerous other eating establishments. It leads right past Disney World and as one gets closer, hotels and Mickey Mouse galore! Even found a couple of car washes, one close and one a little farther out so I can get the cars detailed when needed. Petrol prices anywhere from $2.26 to $2.39, cheaper than at home, which is great.
The more I see, the more I like, and now motivated more than ever to get this process started. It's time really and can really see us up here by next year at this time if not a couple months earlier. Just need to do it during my wife's hiatus from Turbo Tax so it'll be easier on her. Regardless, have to get faster internet like she has here, 100 mbp's instead of our puny 25 from AT&T. Their ads claim they've already got the 100 mbp's but when we call, told, "not in your area yet"! Our cable company has it and the increase in speed is going to be worth it. Once she comes up to visit and tries it, she'll also be amazed and sorry she waited so long. Especially for doing taxes and her gig at Turbo Tax, this super quick speed will just blow her away!!! I'm totally in awe with how fast it is and all I do is surf and light banking, nothing like she does for work. It's lightning fast really. She doesn't have cable here as she streams shows and has Roku but if we do move here, I'll want cable as I'm into it's ease and choices but not too many choices as sometimes, enough is enough. At home, it's just gotten too expensive also so time for a change.

That is really cheap; I'd want an extremely thorough PPI including a compression check. If the timing chain/guides haven't been changed that would need to be addressed before I drove it across the street. If it was rust-free and the engine/transmission were sound I'd be tempted if I had another space in my garage...

So amongst the regulars here who has winterized a car before? The plan is to keep it garaged through the end of March, starting tomorrow, and here is what I have on my checklist based on various Google searches:

    - Fuel stabilizer (already added to a full tank and I took a brief drive to let it circulate)
    - Car cover
    - Steel wool to block the tailpipes.
    - Dryer sheets and moth balls for engine bay
    - The wiper blades will rest on paper towels
    - E-brake off
    - Battery disconnected and/or removed
    - Car washed
    - Baking soda for interior

I should add the garage isn't heated but per the owner it rarely dips below freezing, most times it's around 35-40 degrees. Anything else I'm missing?

I do all those things except the steel wool. I put dryer sheets in the interior as well, 4 on the front and rear carpets (one in reach quadrant) and over/in the defroster outlets. I used to add air to the tires and park it on squares of aluminum foil but I no longer do and found no difference. Of course I assume you have checked the anti-freeze for strength/freeze point. Sounds like you're good though.

Bandwidth is good, but so is latency. For what you're doing (surf and light banking), latency is probably more important to you than bandwidth. For your wife, a different story - probably, can't say for certain without a better idea of what her workload looks like.

I have fiber at my house from AT&T. Full gigabit, and boy do I love it. Ridiculously fast download speeds, and very low latency (fast ping times). Up until a year and a half ago, I had Comcast cable (just for the internet), and that wasn't bad either. 100 megabit bandwidth, and decent ping times.

This is one of those things you should definitely look into before you purchase a house. Who provides internet to that neighborhood, and how good is their service. Before I bought my present house, I walked around one Saturday and knocked doors. Told the neighbors I was thinking of buying, and asked about several things

    1) does it ever flood here? (very important in Houston)

    2) crime?

    3) internet?

    4) is the electrical service reliable? (I have lived places where it seemed like you lost power twice a week, almost like clockwork).

They found an issue with one of the 52" fans that is in the family/great room but being both experienced electricians, they worked a different solution around the lighting issue. The one doing the real electrical work said he thinks someone had already opened the box but resealed it as the lights had no protective paper on them like the other two 52" units I got for her. I was all set to go back and have them replace the light kit but the issue is no longer, an issue, and it's working on the wall switches as intended. She's pleased as punch and so am I as I don't have to drive back to Home Depot and get them to replace the part. Staying in today and cleaning and putting things away. Might come back for another week...or might not. As much as I think I should and she says she wants me to, might be best to let her be on her own as she works from her home office Monday through Friday 8:30 to 5 and can only talk to her during her lunch. Probably best to let her be, as I've got some tough life decisions I need to make going forward, and those are best done back home because I must make sure me and the wife are on the same page or I might need to return that book to the library once and for all! Being up here these last few days has shown me that maybe it is time for us to finally move next year. And now since she's here, don't want to go towards Ft. Myers like we discusses awhile back. Want/need to be within a half hour if possible and think when all's said and done, it is the best way to go for us all!
Tomorrow, I plan to get the tires rotated on the Golf and get her Versa cleaned up a bit. Deciding also how to get home. If I come back, we'll take my car but if not, both vehicles will have to go. And my lead driver just texted me...gotta feeling he wants me to come back sooner than later!! Turns out, wanted to know if I'll be in for lunch tomorrow as the boss is buying. Said sorry, no and I'll let them know when I am coming back.

I'm not sure the two of you were talking about exactly the same thing here. @pensfan83 was talking about "storing" a car for 5 or 6 months in the winter. Do you actually store a car for the winter, as in leave alone, don't touch at all?

Our 2005 Mazda 3s was pretty much a Volvo S40/C30 underneath from what I've learned. The body shells were very similar and some of the interior locations were dead on with our Mazda. I almost bought a slightly used S40 but decided to keep the Civic instead. Was probably a wise move looking back to be honest. Basically, my misguided year with the Tucson was of my own making, even the wife told me so, but something I needed to get out of my system. Personally, think if I had waited till now to have gotten one, would've made more sense. I seem to be needing the ability to just slide over more now than then and something like a Kia Sportage or Nissan Rogue Sport would be just about perfect. The Golf is just a tad low for me but luckily I sit on a special cushion to relieve my spinal pain. Getting out can be difficult at times but just deal with it. But my next vehicle will need to be a bit higher and want the safety stuff plus the SAT radio. Length needs to be around 175"'s or smaller. Mileage needs to be around 34 or so combined and want to keep the price in the mid to upper $20K region. Luckily there are plenty of choices in these parameters but really do think the Mini Cooper Countryman is just going to be too small all the way around.
So, will have to look within those things mentioned above and see what I can find. I'd also like it to be somewhat fun to drive also, something the Golf continues to do whenever I start the engine. That wonderful smile is still on my face. I know I'll have found the right choice when every time I see it, I smile, like I do now with my beloved Golf. No matter what, whenever I see it, I just smile...can't help it as it's the best vehicle I've ever owned. Even after being hit and repaired, that smile is still there. I really thought I'd have rather them total it back in February but no, there's still not another vehicle I'd rather have. Except maybe a new VW Golf SEL, a model they no longer make. Looking back, wish I had done a bit more research and gotten the SEL model as it had the better seats, push button start and the usb port I think. I know it cost more but just sorry my sales guy didn't just show me what I'd be giving up by getting the SE. The extra knowledge would've helped as they always say, "Knowledge is power" and I would've had the power to make a better, more knowledgeable decision!

I'm not sure the two of you were talking about exactly the same thing here. @pensfan83 was talking about "storing" a car for 5 or 6 months in the winter. Do you actually store a car for the winter, as in leave alone, don't touch at all?

Yeah, I was going to pipe in to say that I winterize cars regularly.... but not like that! :)

His ask was more along the lines of "storagizing."

    @roadburner -

    How does this strike you?

No, I'm not interested in it for myself - it's beyond my level of knowledge and interest, but I couldn't help think of you when I saw it on my routine craigslist search of manual BMWs.

That's 10 minutes from my house...
That IS cheap. I wonder what's up. CARFAX says the car is out of FL and came to Colorado in the year 2000. It's about 1/2 market price.

AHHHH---I see the problem. Read the Yelp reviews on this dealer.

I've never done a damned thing to "winterize" my vehicles, and I've never had any trouble in the spring. That M6 is nice, but I don't think there is a damned thing from the '80s I'd drop $20k on.

My toy cars have just hibernated in my garage during winter months with no prep from me. Fuel can't certainly sit for several months with no ill effects. I have a batter tender hooked up, that's all.

Sorry I'll clarify this is for winter storage of the vehicle not merely winterizing it for the cold months and yes after tomorrow the car will be left alone until April.

Received an ad in the mail today. An extra $3k off a Buick. Claims to be in addition to all other offers. Anyone know anything about this? Wondering if that could be used on a lease. That would make a huge dent if the other lease details were favorable.

Sounds like those private cash offers that so many people were getting on the F-150. Ironically I got one of those that was good for 2,500 but my father who actually owns an F-150 didn't get one at all.

Driving fool, sounds like there’s lots of places around where your daughter lives, and you’ll have no problem  living there and adapting, which I’m glad to hear. Yes let us know how it goes tomorrow we’re getting the tires rotated on the golf, I’m glad you only met car still hard to find some car that you love and I will keep on loving into the future. When it comes to store in the car, others have mentioned above. Have to still do that with the Thunderbird, already took the battery out and have it under battery tender in the garage on my shelf. Have to fill up the gas tank still, and put fuel stabilizer. Also put some dryer sheets in the interior, that’s all I really do.   Oh also have to clean the outside thoroughly still before I from the car cover. That’s the extent of what I usually do. I’ve been lazy, have to get on it more. Like everything else posted in here today have a good night all, will be back in here later again, or tomorrow morning bright and early.

Well I got a text saying that the car was all mine, but I have yet to consummate the deal with money. I need to figure out how to get down there to pick the car up. You know how it is in California--you either drive a car, or you die of exposure and hypothermia waiting for a bus that will, most likely, never arrive. No friends seem available right at the moment.
