ok, putting aside the virus discussion for a minute, a punch to report. Not sure if I am the only person dumb enough to buy a car on the day federal emergency declared and stores are in chaos from the pandemic. But at least if the world is crashing and burning, we will go down in style!
new car in driveway, old RDX left behind. Wife is now proud owner of a 2020 RDX tech SH AWD. White over Espresso. Quite the learning curve for tech, but she is doing OK so far! Though since her test drive I am the one that drove it (home from dealer than out to dinner). Does drive nice. Much smoother than the old one. many features. I think we will enjoy it. Not sure if the mirrors stick out more (they do seem big) but definitely going to take some practice getting comfy snaking it into the garage. Might be sorry not holding out for power folding mirrors! But it fit.
will post the story of the purchase later. But so far with a whopping 25 miles on it, nice car. Pano roof is wonderful. Loving the seats. excellent steering and handling. Pretty quick too.great radio. Really just need to get settled in with it but that will come with time.
Congrats! Love the interior. Goes great with the white exterior. So glad it all worked out. Surprised and happy to see some people are still going out to dinner! We are kinda not doing that till we know more about how many actual cases in our county (so far 0 reported, but no test kits either, so basically no way to know). The dealership Was probably thrilled to get your business.
@stickguy looks great, I love the interior! I think some of the Acuras at the auto show had two screens in the center stack. I greatly prefer yours to that.
Nice looking wheels @stickguy, sounds like the deal went well. I gather they matched or came close enough (considering the tax credit) to the Carvana offer since you left the old one there. Just curious how you plan to get the bubbles out of the paint on the tailgate.
Good luck with it and give us a couple reports as you mile it up.

Nice; congrats! I love the interior color and the how-Audi-shoulda-done-it transmission shifter.

All of this shut-it-down madness is starting to get on my nerves. While none of this effort will ultimately prevent the spread of the disease, it may smooth the curve quite a bit as it makes its way through the population. If everyone continues freaking out about it for that whole time, that's a lot of inconvenience for everyone for a long time to come.
I suppose there is the benefit that this may prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed as the rate of incidence peaks, but seriously.... everything is shutdown now in Alaska, and we don't even have a problem to slow yet. Once cases do start showing up in earnest, which will most likely not be until April or later, everything will already have been shut down for a month. And, sorry, but as good-intentioned as everyone is now, economics will win in the long run. Once we have all lost enough money to our "responsible" behavior, we'll all just go back to the way we do things, the virus will do what it does, and the vast majority of people will go on living like they always do.

@xwesx I could not agree more. I do get slowing the curve but how many people will be financially hurt or even ruined but shutting so many things down? I’m talking about people that live paycheck to paycheck and suddenly find themselves with no way to make a living.

Nice tires and wheels on the RDX Tech....Continental Crosscontact 235/55R19. Should be really good for performance and comfort. Below is a 3-minute Acura promo video on the RDX. "Dragon tail" taillights!
Awesome! Now ya got me rethinking what I want to do! Not, were just going to stay the course for the next six or so months, and see how things pan out. Really wish Acura still made a small hatchback vehicle as that's what I really want. Enjoy it and hope the wifey really learns the tech. One last note, guessing the kid has decided to not go back to her guy. Mine I think wanted to get back but knew it wasn't up to her. Figured he'd find out the grass ain't always greener, which is what eventually played out. But better now than later to be honest. And hoping she gets to meet someone else in her work situation which is a much better fit!

Continental is the German premium tire, just as Michelin is the premium French tire, and Pirelli the premium Italian tire. Here's a 2-minute video from Continental about making a tire in their laboratory factory in Germany:
been running around like crazy between the car and looking at housing options for the princess, and assorted other stuff. but home briefly.
good news, the TLX repair got done EOD yesterday so got that back this AM. Not missing the RentaNox. looks perfect. And the light they are giving me $200 for, I could not even find the spot that had the scuff that they buffed out. so that was a good call.
thanks for compliments on the RDX. Color combo does look good, even though the wife thinks she got real flashy with it. The red would have sent her over the edge.
did not use much (didn't take it today) but it drives nice. Just a lot to get used to. Not worried about the touchpad. that has been working fine and we are getting stuff set up. The salesguy did a great job setting most stuff up and demoing the way to do it. really not bad once you get the concept, but I can see how jumping in cold could be problematic. So not concerned about that. And should get used to push button shifter.
must have wide mirrors because it is not easy to place through the door. Hopefully the wife spatially gets used to it, otherwise we are going to have really beat up mirrors or it will be sitting outside! Really sorry it did not come with power folding mirrors. A big plus to the Volvo. But, will have to make it work I guess. I don't think it is really that much wider it is just getting used to it.
of course with so much stuff being shuttered, it may take a month to crack 100 miles on it. started out with 5, including what the wife put on during her testdrive. this was a nice fresh unit too, with a build date of 2/2020.
No 360 camera. That is reserved for the Advance package.
quick version of the deal. as of Monday, local guy was offering to match Caravana. PA dealer was quite a bit ($1,500) less on sales price, but $2kish below on trade. So just to see, I texted local guy saying the 2 PA places were both at that price, and would they match? Surprised me a little but they did, so we (after much debate giving current world events) decided to take a risk and do it. entirely possible a month or 2 from now they will be offering much better deals. if they are even open! but who knows.
if we had decided to not buy now, I still would have sold to Carvana. No idea what, but when I reran the estimate on Thursday (old one had expired) they actually upped it $150! I definitely would have taken that.
maybe it was not a super deal but seemed OK, and we were both mentally ready to move on from the old buggy. So we did.
MSRP was $44,025. With discounts we paid $39,900. Trade in was $14,284 (equates with sales tax credit to selling it privately for a little over $15k). Plus we got 60 months at .9% APR. We did a true sign and drive with only the trade as down payment (no money changed hands) and the total interest is about $660. Practically free money!
so, don't know what will happen with the economy and pandemics, but we got a fancy car to take us up to retirement age!

Sounds like a good deal on a great vehicle to me. Congrats again! Is the monthly payment less than $500?
$483.50. Thanks to the nasty NJ taxes and fees. But getting new plates, and a 4 year registration. So considering it took no cash up front, and a relatively small hit to monthly cash flow, did not seem too extravagant. Plus we just finished paying off the last of the residual house upgrade and college expenses on the HELOC, and the car is less than 1/4 of what we paid most months on that.
we had the last one 7.5 years, so expect to have this one at least that long if it is good, and with any luck, we will be retired by then.
at some point, possibly when the TLX lease is over, I might inherit it. But that is a long way in the future!
took the new car out to run up to Lowes with the princess. She was quite impressed with the front passenger seat (gets the same 12 was power as the driver). and had a fine time playing with the infotech. at 24, she picked it up right away. I think it also helps if you are Apple people because it seems very much like that. tweaked a few settings too Put it in sport mode, and could tell the steering firmed up and the RPMs actually ticked up.
and more importantly, got it in the garage without any mirror carnage. just a matter of figuring where to line up on the door to get it centered. But it does fit with some room to spare. just gotta be careful!
I did show my a nice nearby age 55+ ranch and a half with a 2 car garage with a double door. That just seems like a much more convenient option.

I gather you have 2 single 8 foot doors rather than 9 foot doors. So that would make for a tight fit with large CUV mirrors. My first house had 2 single 9 foot doors so that spoiled me. Second house had 2 single 8 foot doors and that was almost a deal breaker but since everything else met our needs I bought it anyway. House I'm in now (#4) has a double single door.

Got some good use out of the pickup today again. My wife took our kids as well as another friend and her son skiing (score one for the Pilot). I had the day off from work. I slept in, had breakfast, cleaned the kitchen floor, then headed into the city for a bike ride. Instead of installing the bike rack of the Tacoma’s trailer hitch, I threw my bike in the bed and ratchet strapped it down. I rode a little over 22 miles
