I don't know how anyone could live someplace with that much snow, especially this late in the year. If I never touch a flake of snow again, I will be perfectly happy. At least with that aspect of life!

Hey, we cheat quite a bit. That snow is accumulation since November, so, what... that's five solid months of slow accumulation. If you notice on the far right side of the photo (and a little on the left side), that shelf of snow is about 12" tall, and that was just in the last week. Total depth is a little under 36", so that's not so terrible. Buffalo can see that much in a single day! :D

I absolutely love that 3 series. especially the interior. but 1,000 miles/year seems weird. not sure if it would have any negative impact on it, but I also would not pay a premium for it.

The maintenance needs on that 335 are the same no matter what the mileage. And if they haven’t been done, they still need to be. Great color combo, I’d try to find a 2010 and later N55 example.

I do like that 550 though!

Starting to see a real drop in petrol prices, Costco don to $.65 as of this morning, paid $1.89 at Cumberland Farms last Wednesday evening. But with nowhere to go, what can one do! Ran out for a pizza last night and they're running a daily special of $10.00 for a large cheese pie. When I was waiting for our medium with ham, a few folks came in for their orders and seemed to all be getting the large pie. Later in the week, will do the same.
Wife went to Publix earlier and said shelves are pretty well re-stocked, I'll head over there in the morning as we've got lunch & dinner right now. Seems like one of her local gigs is going to get her computer access at home so she can do her stuff here. Ah, the new world we live in!
Boredom finally set in good yesterday afternoon, so just got in the Golf and took a short drive and it seemed to help a bit. Lots of folks walking in the neighborhood and keeping a respectable social distance so hoping this stay at home stuff will end sooner than later. Think a lot of folks will look at their jobs a bit differently when they go back! I've always liked this Enterprise job a whole lot but think I'll like it that much more when I do go back...I really do miss it!

I find the seller's description amusing - "put this 550i into sixth gear and find out what fun is all about!"

Sixth gear would decidedly be the least fun gear to be in, no? :)

I'd take an E60 over the anesthetized F10 any day- but a V8 is always a bit of a concern. Funny thing; the 540i xDrive sled I'm looking at is as fast-or faster-than an E60 or F10 550i.

Here in Kentucky and Indiana the population is sparse enough that I think a cautious visit to a park is maybe possible, and important enough for physical and mental health to even be recommended sometimes? Just bring some hand sanitizer with you, and then keep that suggested distance between you and anyone you happen to encounter. And the weather today is fantastic—truly windows down and moonroof open weather! Apologies in advance for this annoying from outside the moonroof selfie, but this brand new little lake park in Utica Indiana (right where Old Salem Road becomes International Dr.) is pleasant imho, and it was empty when I was there just a couple of hours ago....

I’ll have to check that one out! I knew there was construction going on there from my trips to Charlestown State Park, but I didn’t know what they were doing. Charlestown is a great park, often nearly empty, and often they have free days with nobody collecting entrance fees at the gate. Bernheim has closed, and I understand that—it was always busy, and if you meet someone on a narrow trail, there’s no way to keep six feet away while you’re passing them.

Bummer that Bernheim is closed But it makes sense, I suppose, because it's so spread out (meaning there would be a restroom issue). I'm glad I went to Bernheim just a week ago. Sigh. I've been to Charlestown Park too just yesterday, and then a couple of times last year. I like that path down to the long abandoned amusement park that got flooded out in 37 iirc. But yeah, this little lake place is fun. Kinda surreal actually, with bridges to nowhere and almost a Greek theater kind of seating area in one place. I think maybe it's been built for the new light industrial and commercial area that's springing up there.

Up until recently, you could easily see a lot of the old bunkers where they manufactured / stored munitions during WWII. Charlestown still has quite a few artifacts from the munitions plant if you look closely - old wells, building foundations, etc., near the trails. I love places like that.

Rose Island is really neat, but that hill you have to go down seems endless! I can go uphill much easier than down.

Noticed a strange issue with my Golf. I usually have the digital speed read out on but the other night after I filled up, I went to the mileage read out and instead of showing like 425 which it always used to do after a fill up, it only showed 300 miles. Strange I thought as the gauge shows full on the lower right of the speedo where the gas level is. Shows full like it ought to right now. Earlier on the way home, tried it again, and now, it's showing 290 but the dial still shows it to be on full. Strange really. In the A3, the wife always keeps it on the petrol read out so she knows exactly how much she has left in the tank. Hers is always working as it should.
I shut the Golf down and figured I'd let it set for awhile, then tried it again. Still showing the 290 with a full tank. Not going to worry about it as right now, not going anywhere to use much petrol but will try again in a few weeks, and see what it says then. Probably just a glitch as I looked underneath the vehicle and not leaking anything at all. Just struck me as a bit weird for it to be actually that way after over 5 years of ownership. And since I hardly ever check it, not really a big deal. Might just be worth it to use the current tank and let it get close to empty, then try it again. But with my new driving habits, that could take a couple of months!

Yeah, that World War II munitions area was so huge it was really its own city. It even had its own powerplant, although I believe that along with much of the rest of it has been demolished. Here are a few pix from a site that apparently explored it about ten years ago. I love these pix of the ruins from this site, but I wish I could see pix of when it was new and operating. If those exist, I assume they are in some storage area controlled by the Pentagon....?

Sandy, the range calculation is based on historical/recent driving. so when you were doing longer drives, you get better MPG, so it assumes you will keep getting that. But after some rounds of short drives after sitting, the car figures that you will keep doing that and adjusts accordingly. at the beginning of a tank, it really has to "guess" what you will do. Quite likely that if you got out on the highway at a steady 65 for 20 minutes, your range would go up, not down.

I recall renting a Passat in NC once. must have been just filled. When I pulled out of the lot, RTE said 500. about 5 miles later as I merged onto a highway, it had climbed to ~600 miles. Sadly it did not keep going up, but I was impressed by the combo of good MPG from the 1.8T engine, even in a big car (and that was a long car), and something like an 18.5 gallon tank.

    Yes, that's correct.

When we've taken road trips in our 6-cylinder Outback, the distance to empty would register at 400 or so miles when we pulled away from the gas station, but would go higher once we got on the highway and settled in at 75-80 MPH. Kinda cool to drive 40 or 50 miles, but see the DTE gauge creep up.

Since your driving habits have changed, the car is "relearning" how far a tank will take you.

Not too long after Mrs. j got her 2012 Legacy with the 6 cylinder engine we went to a restaurant that was about 60 miles round trip. When I pulled into the driveway when we got back the distance to empty was way above what it showed when we left. I knew what happened but when Mrs. j wanted to know why I wasn't pulling the car into the garage I told her I was afraid the mileage would go down and I just wanted to etch the memory of the miles and distance to empty before it went down after driving it the way it had been driven up to that point. Those Subie 6 cylinders are gas guzzlers no matter how it's driven. Just barely better than the V8 in my Genny. Just glad I don't buy cars with consideration given to gas mileage.

it is fascinating how quickly the brakes to normal life can slam on. Going to be just as interesting to see how quickly it ramps back up once restrictions are lifted.

if nothing else, I bet that day 1 of reopening, any restaurant or bar that is able to open is going to be packed. But certainly going to be a gradual process of them getting open, and no one knows how many just won't

There are three restaurants we normally patronize - a pizza place, a Mexican restaurant and a Chinese place. Found out the Chnese place is closed for the time being. The pizza place seems to be doing ok with curbside, carry out and delivery. Will need to hit up the Mexican place later this week - hopefully.

at this point my 2 cars are getting a week on/week off. Just have to move the Jetta to the opposite side of the driveway. That is not really going anywhere. Might have to take a scenic drive during the week just to warm it up. at least it is getting a rest since it is up toward 33K miles, and does not turn 2 for about 4 more months.

It might be due to your short trips recently. The car starts the tank off with what it estimates as most reasonable based on your recent driving. Similar happens to me in the winter, where summer miles will say something like 600 on a full tank, in the winter it gets down to around 425. As the weather warms and mileage improves, the numbers come back up for start-of-tank estimates.

Sorry, guys. I should have read ahead!

Deps is great, lots of good store selections. I want to get to Cork N Bottle next time we're down there though.

That’s where I ended up yesterday. Right off I75...much easier for me than I71. Only now, it’s called “UNCORKED”. Always nice folks working there. Went in for a couple of things. Came out with a box full. ;)

Anyone like wheated bourbons and have any recommendations?

I like Weller 107 but boy it's getting pricey $125+
I like Buffalo Trace and Jefferson’s Reserve also. Have had Weller. Not a fan, regardless of price.

Truthfully, I don’t find a correlation between price and taste. Yes, some very, very cheap bourbons aren’t very good (although you can find some nice Bonded bourbons for relatively cheap). For the most part, I can find a bourbon that won’t break the bank that I like quite a bit.

For example, I don’t know why everyone goes Gaga over Pappy. Yes, it tastes good, but better than something ⅓ the price? I can’t say could make that claim.

Bourbon du jour seems to be Blanton’s right now. Hard to find, but worth the extra $$ they charge for it? Again, I like other, less expensive bourbons better.

Care to share those three? Possibly on our list as well?

We don’t do many sit down restaurant meals any more and have been doing take out for years. So we haven’t noticed much difference. All the take out places we use are still open.

Apparently in LA they're parking rental cars in stadium parking lots, in the thousands. It's interesting, in a train wreck sort of way, to watch an economy grind to a halt.

Before we shut down we were parking them in a back lot that the company rented from the airport. Lined them up with the National Guard Blackhawk helicopters.

How's this for a little temptation?

Now through March 31st, lease a 2020 Ford Explorer XLT for $329/month + tax for 24 months with $0 due at signing & $0 security deposit. Plus, enjoy free delivery of your vehicle up to 50 miles— now that's easy.

I wish Toyota would do something similar with the 4Runner...

If I needed one, seems like a good deal. Maybe you can even start driving it before the 24 months are up!

Oh, @stickguy. You're so bitter right now. This will pass and you'll forget all about when and how you bought the RDX. :)

And, it's not a lease, where the clock is ticking from the moment you sign the paperwork. Just think of how the resale value will flatten out due to the lack of miles.

Sticks are like elephants. We never forget. I might be over it 7-8 years from now. Maybe. Assuming we can leave the house by then.

And low miles for us are a given anyway.

That’s the worst part. Get all excited, then door slammed in your face. I’ve never had a car before that needs the first oil change before getting gas.

You're forgiven but this is what happens when you don't get back in here soon enough after shoveling the white asphalt in your driveway. :(

I gave the truck and Acura a spring cleaning yesterday (and forgot to get pictures, oops). The Acura could use a clay bar treatment and there was a lot of bug/tar residue on the lower front doors. Normally I would get its annual detail now but with it only hanging around 6 months at most I'm going to probably tackle it myself.

What’s the fine print? That’s about $350 with tax for me, but have a feeling that is before bank, dealer, and DMV fees, right? So another $1500 or so, bringing it to $410-$415.
