Really? Thought they were well past transmission problems by then. Have they had any good ones since the old Aisin 4-spd auto? Geesh.

Complete failure and replacement. Apparently very common. Car was very quick though - I loved it. Was fairly reliable outside of the transmission.

And her 2015.5 V60 T5 has been through 2 fuel pumps in 35k miles.

Isn't that just a 6-speed Aisin tranny? I seem to remember Aisin being the only automatic transmission anyone really WANTS.

I thought the problem child was the GM 4-speed that went in the T6 just after the turn of the millennium.

My 2011 Regal Turbo had a 6-speed Aisin and I hated it. It was very slow to pick a cog when you had been slowing down and then went to accelerate again. Wasn't just my example either, as the Edmunds Inside Line (RIP) long-term review commented on the same behavior there.

Interesting. For auto tranny shifting, I always thought my Volvo did better than the Honda before or Acura after. At least with the RDX it's easy to just kick it down a gear with the paddles, which it needs more often with the taller gear and non-turbo V6.

Toyota got absolutely hammered for the way it’s transmissions were programmed for FE in the mid. 2000s... hesitations , jerking etc.

It was discussed here on Edmunds at length. Once you got used to it all was fine, but coming from a traditional 4 speed to the new FE driven programming it felt off. Some people couldn’t get used to it. Eventually Toyota offered a re-flash but warned FE would suffer.

I never had my 06 Avalon done as it never bothered me.

This is also way cool. Just needs a manual tranny, but probably works well with the slush box. Oh, should be a wagon too!

I’m loving that 740. We had a base model 1990, in charcoal. I think that one is a GL. If memory serves, the GL trim level got a hand crank metal sunroof. I think the GLE and turbo models had powered ones, and may have been glass.

I'd like it better if the paperwork was more service records, less brochures. The price is a bit on the high side as I've seen the same miles for less, but if the condition and history checked out, I could maybe see it.
