There has to be a sensor to avoid doing that.

Awesome. When we got my Mom’s RAV4 I was sitting right next to one just like that in the showroom. Love it.

It could be tax but it wasn’t noted that it was.

I’m going to look at the paperwork when I get home. IIRC adjusted cap with taxes (total lease here in NJ and acq free was $42700 or so. Selling price was right around 40k on a 50k MSRP. Rebates were to the dealer so I wasn’t taxed on the huge incentive.

I’ve made 9 payments (10th due in a week or so).

I guess it could be right, but seems high to me.

Probably all a moot point. Wife doesn’t want to sell it and what could it be worth to Vroom or Carvana? 35K at most?

When you say rebates were to the dealer what do you mean exactly? My understanding is they tax the rebate too (at least in NY). Is there something special you have to do have the rebate be counted as a price reduction rather than a cash payback to the buyer?

Funny about getting to F&I regarding extended warranty. On the Stinger, I was going over the numbers agreed to with the F&I guy and he kept showing me the extended warranty purchase prices. I had to laugh, as the sales lady kept touting the 5 year bumper to bumper and 10 year drivetrain warranty. Yet, here’s the finance guy telling me why I should buy an extended warranty.

He wasn’t obnoxious, but didn’t take the first “no” as my final answer (yet, it was). I finally ended up telling him that it would be a minor miracle if I kept the Stinger past the bumper-to-bumper warranty period.

There was a factory to dealer incentive/rebate whatever you want to call it that took the money right off the sales price. Worked in my favor as that $4500 or so wasn’t taxed. Probably saved about $5 a month on the lease.

It was something I learned about here and used it to negotiate 19% off the MSRP.

Decades ago I was looking at a Subaru for my wife and I wanted a car with leather rather than the ubiquitous mouse fur upholstery that most Japanese cars sported at the time. When I asked about a car with leather the salesman told me that they could install a leather interior. I told them I wasn’t very enthusiastic about dealer installed options he said, “The leather we use is a LOT better than the stuff Subaru uses.” I didn’t want to argue with the dimwit, but I was tempted to ask, “If Subaru uses substandard material in the interior that you CAN see, what corners are they cutting on the parts you CAN’T see?”

What the sales guy said was likely true. Most mainstream brands, and especially those of Japanese origin, use (or at least tended to in the recent past) low-end leather. But it isn't limited just to the Japanese makes. I have seen firsthand how the leather used in Mustangs circa 2010 or so can deteriorate badly in just a few years. I suspect that is why they introduced a premium-level upgrade leather option a few years back.

As far as maintenance, IF I were to keep this out of warranty, I do believe I’d be at my independent BMW mechanic rather than Toyota.

(I can just about hear you all chuckling. But I do like to think ahead even if it’s pointless.)

You might want to investigate that beforehand. When Chrysler sold a rebadged SLK as the Crossfire, MB mechanics wouldn’t touch them. As time went on Chrysler stopped carrying parts which made it even tougher on owners.

Thanks Kirstie! Absolutely agree it looks better in person than in pictures, not that the pictures are too shabby. A lot of the pictures from the front make the hood look “Viper-ish,” but the proportions are better in person (IMO).

I like that it’s about the same length as my 228i, but obviously comes off with a very different look.

I’ll make sure to post a review after at least a few more days of actual experience.

And do we get the deets on the deal? Better/worse than the yellow one?

Details - $56,140 MSRP, paid $47,700 plus tax. So about $5k off plus the $3,500 rebate. That’s just under 9% off before the rebate, an overall 15% off sticker. They basically sold it for dealer invoice plus the incentive.

The accountant in me though recognizes the yellow one was a better deal. They were around $6k off before the incentive (10.7%).

But at the end of the day, that one started $1,400 higher with the extra charge yellow and some port installed carbon fiber mirror caps. Obviously I decided against the yellow, and while I wouldn’t mind the mirror caps, I’m not about to add them for $925.

So...at the end of the day, my silver one was $300 less than the yellow and I gained about $1k in tax savings by trading in the 228i (I wasn’t gonna drive it to Indy to trade). And I got to avoid the travel costs and hassle.

So big picture? Yeah, I think it was a better deal.
This sounds like a good deal. And you get to enjoy it now, and know how it was broken in. Well bought. I'd bet these deals/incentives won't be around on '21 models, because there won't be many '21 models.

Sounds like a very fair deal - one of the dealers over on LH made it clear that after 9.2% discount on these, they're into serious loss territory - so you did great!

I was just able to transfer my Sirius service subscription (and promo plan pricing) from the 228i to the Supra all on-line without having to pick up the phone.

Put a reminder in your smart phone for a alert a few days before the subscription promo is scheduled to run out. That way you can call them and mitigate an upcoming hassle.

  • breldbreld Member Posts: 6,918
That's a good suggestion. I put in reminders in my calendar so I could do just that. But as you can imagine, I generally am switching cars before any subscription actually runs out.

But I've become accustomed to the routine of calling Sirius and making sure any promotional pricing is transferred properly every time I switch.

In fact, I have a very routine mental process with every new car - 1) call my insurance agent, 2) call and change the info for the Toll transponder and 3) update SiriusXM.

I had a pleasant surprise with that insurance update - my agent already got me the new premium and the monthly went up by $20 from the 2014 228i. I considered that an absolute win.
