I suggested he sell to Carvana. I plugged in the VIN and it spit back $21.5k. I wouldn't mention the mods.

OMG I just heard someone get quoted $366 for a battery. Wow

Similar deal with BMW’s. Seems the car won’t ‘recognize’ the battery if not programmed?? Knock on wood, I have not had to deal with that and would likely have little patience for a $350+ battery.

RE: Loaner...Can’t believe they wouldn’t put you in an Enterprise rental since there is nothing available. BMW did that for me once as there was some type of recall going on and all the loaners were spoken for.

Switch is good because I can hear the relay clicking. I tried restarting the car , and Googling a reset procedure with no help.

saw the used Forester again. while walking tonight. 2012 Touring. 138,000 miles so a bit steep. That would definitely need a serious PPI. And IMO records of new head gaskets and a replacement tranny!

So, the 2012 Forester was a transitional time for the company. This car should have the FB25 engine (not prone to the HG failures) and the 4EAT (not prone to failure). In following years, the CVT replaced the 4EAT. In prior years, they used the same transmission mated to the EJ25.

Apparently the same is true on Audi. I was having constant issues with the previous battery, which itself was not the stock battery (manufacture date was nearly three years newer than the car), so I replaced it this past winter. I did the reprogramming myself, though I still do not know what the point is of "programming" a car battery. None of my other cars seem to have any problems with their batteries, and a couple are approaching or over ten years old... and, go figure, no programming needed on any of them!

Anyhow, I still tend to have issues with it if I do not put it on an overnight trickle charger at least every couple weeks. I need to do a permanent install on a trickle charger so I can just plug it into the winterization system.

Correct. 24 month/15K miles per year. $.15 per mile if I go over. I also put down $2,295 in Multiple Security Deposits which saves me about $55 per month on my lease payment. TFS will just give me back less when the lease is up.

I sold mine a good 4-5 years ago with similar miles, if not a bit less.

There was a lot of interest from all over, but no one seemed to really want to pay much of a premium for it. Someone from California finally settled on $10,000 for it, flew out and drove it back.

I suspect given the current climate, this one will sell for more.

Yes, the Volvo is a lease. I'm hoping it doesn't become problematic. Steering wheel controls flaked out and now the sunroof. It only has about 6500 miles on it.

They took it in this morning, but I haven't heard anything.

I'm sure if I bought the car at that dealership they would have rented me a car, but at least they brought me home.

Truthfully I haven't driven the Prelude at ALL. It is heartbreaking. It is sitting in the driveway under a blanket. I've got the cover ratchet strapped underneath so it doesn't blow off. It needs a lot of maintenance (Timing Belt, Water Pump, Balance Shaft Seal, Spark Plugs, Coolant, Oil Change) and some repairs (Sway Bar Links, The Suspension Perches need to be flipped, which will necessitate the springs & struts to be re-installed). I also need 4 new tires, an alignment, & I think a new battery.

My wife no longer works close to home. She has a job as a Home Care Physical Therapist and sometimes puts as many miles on her Pilot per day as I do commuting in my Tacoma. The Pilot will be 3 years old at the end of December and we have 54,000 miles on it already.

Part of the reason I leased a Toyota is because excess mileage is ONLY $.15 per mile. Even if I go over 15,000 miles, that is $2,250 plus tax in excess mileage charges. They've already got my money. I just won't get it back. It has been working for me by lowering my lease payment by $55 per month.

I would like to have the Prelude back on the road by next spring in tip top mechanical condition so I can put about 5K miles per year on it.

Only tangentially car related, but I've had the same mortgage since I moved into this house in 2015. I got in touch with my local bank and they have a solution that will substantially lower both my interest rate and my minimum payment, and they can also provide a HELOC with a higher limit than the one I presently have, so both of those mean more available money for hoopties! ;)

I thought about doing a 15 year, but didn't want to be locked into a higher payment. I can do an ARM and pay extra when it's convenient, and get roughly the same result. I was pleasantly surprised, it looks like the interest savings will pay for the closing costs within a year.

We will be closing on a similar deal in the next week or so - 15 year at 2.50%. We were already on a 15 year when we moved last summer, so my intention is to pay a little extra to stay on track. We were already at 3.25%, so not bad, but why not take advantage of the current rate environment?

my refi is still moving at a snails pace. I need to check in and ask what happens when the 60 day rate lock date passes, since it seems unlikely they will get it closed in that time. Pretty ridiculous. If they are that swamped and behind, they should not have been taking more applications. Not that I actually have any skin in the game $ wise, so I guess if they can't finish, they will be out the cost of the appraisal and whatever other stuff they paid for!

    Exactly!

@stickguy - we had the same issue. Due to demand with Wells Fargo, ours took forever to close. They honored and extended the rate lock but went on so long they had to pull credit again which really torqued me a bit. After closing they did send us a $300 Visa gift card. That covers a lot of goodies for the Land Cruiser

That's impressive! There is a lot to like in an all-electric car. In general, I think that the range needs to improve to a minimum of 400 miles per charge (real world) for it to be a practical choice for me. This is one reason why I have my eye on Rivian.

I'm hoping it doesn't become problematic. Steering wheel controls flaked out and now the sunroof..

    Too late. Good luck.

    Anyone remember @shipo ?

Yeah, absolutely. He and roadburner were able to convince me that not all BMW drivers were, well, . . . As I recall, he lived in NH or thereabouts and made many worthwhile possts.

I’m glad we didn’t go to WF (who we have now). The realtor’s guy had a great program and we used it.

When I bought my place in 2015, I shopped around and ended up regretting my decision not to go with the realtor's "guy." This time, going with a regional bank which has given me good service where I have my checking account. It will be nice to have checking, mortgage, and HELOC all under one roof, for once.

My 6 year old daughter put a 2" gouging scratch into the side of my TTS by throwing the Tiguan rear right door into it at the end of its swing of travel.

Time for a part out! :worried::open_mouth::smile:

Oh man, I hate that. Kids are just brutal on cars and it doesn’t get any better as they get older. The X1 has a nice gash from the lacrosse bag.

The worst was a scratch from a bike pedal on the bottom of the door when I had my ZHP.
Same here. One kid tried to squeeze by the Tacoma on the bike and the metal brake put a nice 6" scratch in the front 1/4 panel right by the headlight. My Prelude has about 20 chips in the rear 1/4 panel right below the window from when I first moved into my house and squeezed 2 cars in the garage. The chips line up perfectly with the bottom corner of the rear door of the old 2011 Pilot.
Yes, that's my current situation exactly! There's several door swing chips on my rear left from my daughter sitting rear-right in the Tiguan. Time for me to park on the left side of our narrow 2-car garage.

Or park the Tiggy outside until the youngest is, oh, maybe 12.... or 18....

He lived in Northern, NJ then moved to Nashua, NH. His BMW 530i was pretty sweet if I recall. Black Sapphire Metallic/Black with Sport Package & Stick. He picked it up at the factory via BMW's European Delivery.

VW announced the ID.4 today. I'll reserve judgment for the AWD version (which isn't coming until next year), but for now I'm not super impressed.
