No, no, no, I’d never buy any hot car used. Too much chance of abuse. That’s why I’m amazed that most of you guys are willing to chance it. I bought my last two sporty cars new. The sweet spot for my hoopties is between 10 and 20 years old.

Wasn’t that an all Chrysler design that sandwiched in between various Mitsubishi based models? If so it makes it kind of unique.
As far as I know the Laser was all Chrysler, platform shared with the Dodge Daytona.
Are you thinking of the Conquest? That was a re-badged Mitsubishi Starion.
I’m thinking of the Challenger which was based on the Mitsu Galant. It came before the Daytona-Laser. Later I think they replaced them with a Mitsu Eclipse clone. Chrysler did so much parts sharing back then it’s hard to keep them straight.

Was at the BMW/Mini store today and saw the perfect Mini Cooper S 2-door. Was dark silver with a white top and white caps on the side view mirrors. Price was like $34,500 but it did have an $8500 package on it with lots of stuff. All I really wanted was a sun/moon roof, SAT radio(a year subscription), and the Harman Kardan audio system. The rest of the package was stuff that I had no interest in. Looks to be a fun vehicle. Even tough I say I want "cheap to keep" next time, that Mini Cooper called out to me just like the VW GTI and the new VW Taos does.
From what I understand, Minis (being BMWs under the skin) are anything but cheap to keep. An acquaintance recently had her 2013 with 20K miles in for a look at the brakes. $1500 later she was out the door.
That sounds exactly like a dealer where the SA works on commission. Regardless, the third generation cars with the B37 or B38 three cylinders and the B48 four cylinder have fewer issues than the older models.

If I took that advice I wouldn’t have bought my E24 M6 or my M235i- and I’ve never regretted either purchase.

I’m assuming you are more knowledgeable than me when it comes to making those judgements. Maybe when I finally have had enough with the winters up here I can move to your neck of the woods and you can share your expertise.

It's not that tough; a car that's been hooned is pretty easy to spot. A FSH also tends to ensure the car was properly maintained.

Gorgeous car. It looks spectacular in nighthawk black pearl. When I bought my car, I imagined this is what it would look like all these years later. It’s upsetting to see a gorgeous car like this when mine is sitting under its cover in the driveway.

I know a Mini Cooper will not be "cheap to keep" but hey, I like 'em! Maybe it's their smaller size that attracts me but I'd like one someday. But again, I'd have to see how low they really are as with my spinal issues, anything lower then my current VW will just not work going forward. I showed one to the Mrs. and she thought they were too small yet I'm thinking they're probably the size of the kids Accent. I do think a test drive is in order sometime later next year just to see. They do get pricey just by adding a few goodies but certain goodies I will not compromise on.

I owned a 1993 Laser. It was a twin of the Mitsubishi Eclipse
They revived the Laser name in the ‘90’s as the Plymouth Laser, twin not only to the Eclipse but the Eagle Talon.
My brother and I lusted after those, as I imagine most any enthusiasts did at the time. Thinking about it now, it’s shocking we didn’t end up with one.
Really positive review on the new Elantra N. Another one of the popular guys also seemed to love it. This could be fun to have. Will be interesting to see how they equip the US version (and of course, price it).
Guess that Fiat owner wants to keep it or is trying to hide something. Crickets since telling me he’d send the VIN and never answered my question about how long he has owned it.

Well, our lone BMW/Mini dealer here is well-known locally for their ability to do total cashectomies on the wallets of customers of their service department. They are almost universally reviled. Interestingly, the original owners were recently bought out by one of the large dealership groups here in town who have a reasonably good reputation, but apparently little has changed there so far.
This is the generation of Prelude that appeals to me. I remember one locally in this color and I always liked it because it was a subtle shade of yellow.
LMAO I figured I would throw the Enclave into Carvana to see if I could save the Dispo fee
Umm.. no. I put in one accident due to the paint work on the door. That’s probably not even on the CarFax since it was a cash deal with the body shop.
Either way the offer wasn’t even close. $16,900 with a $2000 hit for the accident. Residual is $27,200.
What was the sticker on that?
$49XXX
$16,900? So $18,900 without the accident? OUCH! That's some serious depreciation. That's the beauty of leasing.
Yeah it took a beating and way back of the residual.
Inspector just finished ... said he would knock at the door if he saw anything he knows they would balk at. Otherwise I just have to wait for the report. I was told to put the keys on the front seat because of Covid. I did just that with both sets, sitting on the owner’s manual pouch.

I've searched and it seems most owners have had positive experiences with their 500s. Most naysayers don't even own them and are just repeating past biases they have heard.
@qbrozen ....I know two people who own a 500. Not sure the models, but both love them with none of the unreliability issues we’ve heard with Fiats. Small sample size, but you can always punt it if it becomes anything less than reliable. Looks like fun, too.

My cousin owned a 500 for a time. She absolutely loved it, and I'm not aware of any reliability issues. She was forced to get rid of it (financial issues) and eventually replaced it with a Kia Soul with a stick shift.

I drove a 500 Abarth and loved it. We even rented a base 500 one weekend to pick up our son from college in SC. It was a hoot. I may well have bought one if AMSI hadn’t closed the Fiat store when they bought out the Swope Auto Group.

I've gotta think the bidding will get up there well into the $50k's though. That seems to be what they're going for on the used market - basically a modest discount over new.
I didn't think she would dig the color, but the wife says she likes this. I checked with Carvana and they offered $9250. So seems like a good deal. About $850 to ship it, though.
