Wife said something last night about looking at hybrids. She was also asking something like “why not another BMW?”

I know nothing about the ... it is a plug in? X3. I also haven’t seen any notable lease mentions, so I’m thinking they don’t pass along tax credits? I’ll have to look up how NJ taxes it. I think they still fully tax anything not full EV.

They don't pass along the tax credit as a rebate. Same program as the regular X3. Maybe, NJ would have some sort of incentive for a PHEV?

The lease programs aren't very good for any BMW SUV. Low residuals.

Sounds like you have to be enthusiastic about the overall character of the Bronco Sport to really care to buy one, as it doesn’t necessarily offer anything great in driving dynamic.

I felt the same way about the Honda Element.

I had one that vintage a few years ago. Same engine, but I think was an LS? Fun car, but I really didn’t fit well (not enough headroom). 175,000 miles and still ran great, and I think on original clutch.

If I was him, I'd let go of the Murcielago even if is the least valuable of the trio, and he apparently wants some cash flow (that angle seems to be a bit of a put-on in my eyes). The Diablo and Countach could end up being very good to hold, a bird in the hand so to speak - he may regret selling either, as one is an iconic car, and the other extremely rare.

Devoted ownership group. They could put a Yugo on a lift with larger wheels, call it a Yukon, and tens of thousands would sell.

The ‘come in any time to drive a Tahoe’ made me chuckle. Talk about apples and kumquats. How GM sells 70, 80, 90k Tahoe’s, Suburbans, Yukons etc with this type of sales crew baffles me.

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,385
Plan makes sense. That one isn’t going to go up in value as a collector car like the other two should.

But flipping the countach now to greatly improve financial situation was probably the best move. But he can always sell a few other cars as needed. He’s got plenty.

    You’re welcome.

Ahead of you on that one. lol. Sadly, they don't package those the same as the Highlander (for example), so you have to go up to a Limited, and the programs on those are garbage right now. About $450/mo. Ouch. For a Toyota.

Isn't it hybrid only? I think that powertrain has been panned as not being powerful enough in the new Sienna, but I guess the Venza weighs less.

Nah, it would have been a good choice .... EXCEPT I just now read that the moonroof in the Limited isn't a moonroof at all. It is a fixed glass pane. HUH?! Well, that rules that out for her.

Years ago, a C level finance guy from our parent company was put at our company for a while.
Everyone said he was a good guy. I had heard him speak at some company meetings, etc, and felt the same way.
Things got bad for our parent company and one day we got an email that he was 'leaving to pursue other interests'.
Was our for a walk and saw him exit the building toward the parking lot, so I kind met up with him just to say goodbye and good luck.
We parted ways when he stopped at his car. I looked at it and said, well at least it doesn't look like you will be living in a cardboard box or something like that.
He was getting in his brand new Z7.

    You’re welcome.

Interestingly enough, when I visited the Toyota store this week to test drive the Supra, the sales lady wanted to show me all the colors they had, which were all stored in the back lot. Not a far walk, but she wanted to ride to them. She let me hop in the drivers’ seat of a Venza they use for customers and showed me where to drive to.

Understandably, it wasn’t far.....maybe a couple hundred yards. So, aside from very initial impressions, it’s not a bad vehicle. If you want some decent family transportation, it might be worth a look. It was a hybrid version, too.....40 MPG in town. Was expecting more low end torque with the e-motor helping, but in the brief time I drove it, that never presented itself. Under 30K, too.

Just came back from CarMax. No, drama! Dropped off the car and waited for an hour to get my check. That’s crazy, too. But, as long as there’s a check in hand, I’m good. Two other people there getting buy offers. And, they delivered a Corolla while I was waiting. Busy place.

Have to make up my mind whether I want a car, a truck or an SUV before I can get serious about anything.

Going to test a 3 series this afternoon.

When Venza was suggested my mind was thinking Versa, lol. A slight difference. If the Venza only has fixed glass as the sunroof, that would be a no go for us as well. Both of us frequently drive with the sunroof open and really enjoy the pano-roof on the Q5.

Venza is hybrid only. Basically a RAV 4 hybrid in a tux. And odd that the glass roof is fixed, but it is that fancy chromatic (?) glass that goes opaque when you hit a button.

@graphicguy - congrats on the smooth Carmax sale! What a fun process you're embarking on!

The Polestar 2, like most other EVs, also has the fixed glass roof. The mechanically similar XC40 Recharge has a more traditional panoramic sunroof, with a retractable shade and all. That's one reason I'd give consideration to the XC40.

Suffice to say I let AAA install another battery for 175 and registered it using my OBD handheld. Here is to another 12 years?

I didn't think batteries in the E46 had to be registered--I thought that was an "innovation" in the E90 model. :D
    Me too.
So it was in the software for E46 in my computer, and it let me register it, so no harm no foul?
    I'd think so.
I hope so. With the battery in the trunk my tender ran to a plug on the back wall above my workbench and while there was slack in the cord, it was still stretched enough to be in the way. After finding it unplugged a few times and knocking out myself a few more, I pulled the battery out of the car and put it on my workbench. Before doing so I checked into whether an E46 needs the battery registered and found it didn't. It comes out of hibernation tomorrow so I guess we'll see. Running a line for a new plug is on the list of things to do.
I think I put two batteries in that car, over 10 years.
The OEM battery in the Club Sport lasted over 10 years. I replaced it before it failed because BMW batteries tend to fail completely with no warning- and I didn’t want to get caught out somewhere.

I can't help but think you dodged a bullet by doing this. Even if the car itself proved to be trouble-free, I imagine that the resale will not be great on them in a couple of years. Plus now you get to do the merry-go-round again!

I, too, like the Santa Cruz. But, the big question is pricing. Edmunds says it will start at $35K for the NA 4-cyl, so who knows where the 2.5T will end up.

Ouch. That would have to put the 2.5T around $38k I would think? That’s Ridgeline Sport territory which is bigger or into the nicely trimmed Tacoma territory if you want to go full on truck.

If I remember correctly, the Maverick will start lower.

Yeah, but you're only getting 75% of the number of cylinders.

I'll wait to see where the official pricing lands. I gotta believe the base trim should be under $30K, with the turbo a few grand higher. I can't see this competing against the Ridgeline, TBH.

No, it won’t compete with the Ridgeline, just too small. Its a bold move by Ford and Hyundai as they are essentially trying to create a market. There’s nothing car/CUV based with an open bed in the US market right now. Lots of these by other manufacturers in the ROW. VW makes a couple of cool ones.

Edmunds is way off on the base pricing. That is a loaded up version price ($35K)

I think the Maverick is more Truck proportioned. Really a spiritual successor to the original ranger. Should have a bit longer bed too. But no where near as nice interior.

Maverick should also be a lot cheaper. Will IMO sell like hotcakes if cheap.

Venza is hybrid only. Basically a RAV 4 hybrid in a tux. And odd that the glass roof is fixed, but it is that fancy chromatic (?) glass that goes opaque when you hit a button.

Didn't somebody's son on here just buy one of them?
Son and wife love the Venza. They shopped for a relatively short time. They are late 30's and they wanted hybrid or EV (!!!). Against my advice son decided on hybrid when I told him a straight 2.5 L Toyota engine was best value. Key
is he did NOT like the front appearance of various Toyota sedans. Not the RAV4 and Lexus models fronts.

This Venza is a Japan built version of a Toyota Harrier. They share a link back a step or so with the Rav4. Lots of technology. All technology. Pana roof is variable as to how much light comes in. Not moveable.

Loves the car with its cargo room greater than their Encore. Downside is the glass roof means no roof racks for their kayak racks. So that stays on Encore. AND lost the foot sensor for the tailgate due to adding the Activity Hitch to hold the bike racks.

Bought Limited model because of real leather seats and dealer was pushing discounting to make the sale above an XLE model.

No roof rack?! That's rather unique, actually. There are very few vehicles where you simply cannot put on a roof rack (whether from the manufacturer or through the aftermarket).
