Seems to me it would serve you to read all the research and know when to throw out the "Australian" junk and propaganda like Julie Cirillo did.

You of course do realize that variance both above and below the mean operating speed is a major contributor to accidents? Variance is deviation from the mean. You can be either faster or slower than the mean.

It seems that you pick and choose what you want to believe based on the parts that you agree with and then just ignore the rest.

This house we're in here in Ohio has the squeakiest doors I've ever experienced. They are eerie, they creak so much! My son picked up some graphite spray to quiet them, which worked for about 12 hours or so, but they regained most of their noise quickly. I decided to buy a small bottle of bicycle chain/gear lubricant, as I was very impressed with how well it worked on my old bicycle at home. I just received the bottle yesterday, and I immediately went around to all the doors (interior and exterior) and added a tiny dab of the stuff.

Silence. Blessed silence. I don't know how long it will last, but it's been more than 12 hours now. And, I have nearly a whole bottle left to add more as often as needed.

Wouldn’t you assume the engine had been replaced by that mileage? From what I hear they don’t last that long. The price you pay for a high performance, highly stressed motor?

I just finished working with my wife to change the oil and air filters in her Crosstrek. I added a Fumoto oil valve on it to facilitate future oil changes (should any be necessary under my ownership), which hopefully will make it far less messy since the under-engine plastic shield seems to be better at catching the oil as is supposed to drain versus anything actually useful. The Fumoto will eliminate that issue.

Manufacturers seem to be getting better at their cabin air filter designs. The job on this car was the easiest yet: No screws, no difficult angles, no contortionist acts! Just drop the glove box open, reach behind, easily remove a plastic cover, and slide the filters out then in. Simple. All told, the work was well under an hour for all that and some convex mirrors for good measure.

Golf going in Thursday for new spark plugs so we'll see what happens. Will have him check the brake fluid to see if a change is also needed. With the current chip situation and the probable delay of the Corolla Cross actually coming to market here in the USA, looking like the Golf will be staying a bit longer in the stable which isn't a big deal. The amount of driving I do is so small now, it'll take another year to get to 70K. And since I'm not an early adopter, getting the Cross in it's second year won't be an issue. And in the event that it's a bit too big for the garage, hoping the CH-R will be getting a refresh as that could be the winner though I'd rather it not be. Luckily my tires are all still in great shape and no leaks as of now. I still like it so maybe the best course is to just keep it another year and then revisit the situation and go from there. Hopefully the chip situation will be over with and there will be plenty of inventory.

Base Cayman is 245 HP. I don't think it's highly stressed... lol
Porsches aren't Ferraris. Not really known for needing new engines.

You'll get varying opinions. The 07 has the bigger IMS bearing - it's more robust, but not replaceable like the earlier ones. For that money (I know the market is hot), I don't love the risk/reward quotient, personally.

EDIT - I'm seeing BaT results that look better than that deal.

City parking garages suck. The RDX barely fit on the ramps and tight turns. I couldn’t imagine a car like a Tahoe not getting stuck.

If I did this on any regular basis would have something like a Fit for in town duties

Really got the wife on board with the plan to get the house listed and move. Which will involve getting rid of a ton of stuff. And much shopping for new stuff.

A small truck of some sort is sounding like a perfect idea now for a 2nd car. Hopefully can make that work by year end. Though soon would be good if we try to fast(er) track the process of disposal.

Or catching fire. Can’t remember whether I posted or not, but I passed by a newer Silverado with its engine bay ablaze on an interstate in Illinois yesterday. Looked like the occupants got out safely and were observing from a distance.

A full size pickup is worse than a Tahoe—ask me how I know. Hence the Prius for those situations. Also, the Tundra is averaging about 14 MPG on my road trip, regardless of whether I’m running regular fuel or a blend of corn juice. It only gets the rated 17 MPG highway if you keep it below 75 on the interstate.

Flew to CA this morning to surprise my son and DIL at their baby shower. I am gobsmacked at how bad the traffic in and around LA is, even on a Saturday.

I’m driving my moms ‘03 Sonata, and I’ve got to tell you, it runs great. Mostly highway miles today, then a trip from Oxnard to SD tomorrow night. Will cross 43,000 miles tomorrow, and the work my sister has done to it in the past couple of years has served it well. Helps to get driven more regularly, too. Got new tires on it a few weeks ago - the Michelin’s that were on it were 10 years old.

I’ll post a pic of it tomorrow.

I’ve read that while the values are staying strong and will even continue to go up a bit, inventory is growing slightly and bidding wars are calming.

I’m sure that is still market dependent.

Lumber prices are also falling so that should help new home builds.

Why not just order a Maverick now and get it in January? Do you need something before then? And why the urgency about moving out of your house? Is there something you don't like about it?

Well, it would come in handy sooner. But can’t make something appear that doesn’t exist.

The house, would be to cash in on the crazy market if it still exists. Grab the cash and take whatever time needed to find a replacement. Either order a new build for delivery next spring, or jump on a resale. Resales, much easier if local and not contingent. New build, there for builder meetings and keeping eye on it, but mostly cost certainty. No worries that next spring value is down and we get caught short $ wise.

Also don’t have to worry about something expensive breaking!

I told her that I don't mind her keeping it. She is torn between not having the expense and not having the car.... Tough choices in this life.

Of course the problem with selling a house now to take advantage of the crazy market is that you are then thrust into that same crazy market since you need a new place to live. This happened to the neighbors across the street from me. They put their house on the market last month and ended up accepting an offer that was $120K over asking. But now they are realizing that any place they like is even more money. No luck with new builds either as their prices are equally crazy due to both the spike in building material pricing and overall demand. I occasionally watch a video from a couple that live in The Villages down in Florida and they were speaking of this recently. New build prices there are up well over $100K from earlier in the year, and few are available.

This time last year a house 3 doors up from me went on the market due to a divorce. We were all astounded when it sold for $60K over asking. But that seems like a bargain now. The guy who bought it was moving here from Ontario and was unable to do so due to Covid lockdowns and the like, so it has sat empty until now. This week a 53' United Van Lines truck appeared and delivered all his household goods, though I'm not sure he is actually here yet. Still, given the way prices have gone and how he likely made out with the more recent sale of his property in Ontario, he probably made out like a bandit, even with carrying the place here for a year.

Two houses up for sale around the corner and doubt they'll sit long. School starts Wednesday so if they're asking a decent price, sure they'll sell within a short period of time. Would love to put ours up but where to go and since we've always bought new construction, doubt that will change. Hopefully when the whole family gets together in October in Orlando for the kids delayed wedding party, some long range plans can be discussed. Think we'd head up to Central Florida if our middle child agrees to transfer. If she wants to buy in Miami, we ain't leaving South Florida. And since we've been here 34 years, we have accumulated a whole lot of "stuff", Stick can understand this! They'd have to come home to help us discard of stuff they no longer want. My siblings threw out my stuff without asking and I'm still a bit miffed to this day as I would've liked to have made that decision. I want to give them the chance to keep whatever they'd like and pitch the rest. Also, we could use the help as I'm just unable to do all that work.

When my grandma's place sold ~4 months ago with a bid about 100K over list, we were a little astounded. Today, the listing site estimates are all about 10% higher than that bid. It has to end sometime, although at least in most of the PNW anyway, I don't foresee a bubble pop (barring a financial cataclysm far beyond 2008), rather, just a slowing of growth rates. Even a 10% retraction would still set prices back less than a year. Here in Spokane, virtually everything has doubled in 5 years, and many have tripled in 10. Everyone still wants to live in this region.

Big issue here is barely-regulated house-hoarding institutions looking to build an empire for what some see are coming times of new age serfdom, and parasitic flippers competing with regular buyers in the lower end of the market. Now that I am confident about my job here (didn't want to buy if things weren't going to be a good fit), I am entering the market, and know it is going to be a fight, with non-owner occupant buyerss being a sick problem.

Stickguy’s problem is that he wants to relocate into a trendy location like Saratoga Springs where he’s competing with the horsey crowd who think nothing of paying $500k for a condo that looks like it was made out of shipping containers. If he’d consider going 20 miles in any direction he’d find the real upstate NY where houses are half the price and people are selling cheap to escape the taxes.

What’s going on everyone I finally figure out how to post in here and took the time to actually figure it out been years since I’ve been here. Well least maybe two years or so. I still keep in contact with New York car guy. Anyone else every time I get off this I think I’m gonna have to log back into my Facebook is such a pain in the [non-permissible content removed] to say it’s not user-friendly at all. Anyway moving upstate New York in two weeks, well we don’t move into our house to the end of September will be at my brothers for a few weeks. Moving to burnt Mills New York in Saratoga County, from Long Island. Super crazy busy packing and stuff at my car shipped up to my brothers three weeks ago. yes yes I still have a 1961 Ford Thunderbird, I have painted last year no-show car paint job just nice driver, and looking forward to some shows in September up there. I’ve been itching to do car stuff forever this whole lockdown screwed me up big time but I’m not gonna stop or give up. Also can’t wait to finally get back in the job market. I did take a trip to Texas in May for a few days and then in July for two weeks. Have a girlfriend there, but she lives in a small town so I don’t think I’ll be able to get a job or to my car hobby so I don’t think there’s a chance of me moving there I don’t think although she really wants me to move there. I can’t take steps back to take steps forward only because that’s what I do. Thank God everyone’s been OK in my family practice whole mess, I hope everyone else has been doing well. anyway everyone here’s my phone number again, reach out and shoot me a text and always when I have time at night while talking on the phone especially car related stuff.
