I see a ton of those long carts (6 passenger at least) at the shore zipping around. Definitely would not want to have a shunt with a car in one.

We rode with our Realtor in hers and it didn’t seem that bad, but still could be a little unnerving at times. Heck even at the campground the cars and carts had close calls.

It's dark green, which works pretty well on that model. My only issue is taking it on 200 mile round trips. Which I need to do, occasionally.

Running an errand at lunch and a Maverick passed me in the parking lot. Very nice looking package. Size is perfect for those of us that don’t need to round up a rogue steer in the south 40 or tow the Titanic.

Got it. I was just thinking of a sanity perspective. Financially, it is never going to make sense. Say you buy something for $2,500. You know it is going to need $1,000 - $1,500 worth of some kind of work whether it be an age related repair or some upcoming or past due maintenance. Also, are you permitted to work on your vehicles in your new place in SC? I assume you plan on going down there for a few days to a week. Do you really want to spend your time down there waiting for parts and raising your blood pressure whenever something goes wrong?

My hope is that, for the amount it will be driven, I won’t need to do anything.

Wife has given the go ahead to check out the Pac. Will be going this evening.

I keep bouncing back and forth as to what makes more sense to leave down at the condo.

$6k for a 7-yr-old 6-passenger golf cart. Cheap to keep after initial purchase. Only good for around town, not allowed out after dark.

$3k for a 17-yr-old SUV. More versatile, roomier, no restrictions. More expensive upkeep.

Any opinions or something I’m missing? Keep in mind we’re talking about a vehicle that may see 1k miles a year at most.

I’d nix the golf cart for something you can flee a hurricane in. Get an old Chrysler Sebring convertible. Cheap, kind of fun with the top down and not too bad for an around the town cruiser. I haven’t put a thousand miles on mine yet this year with the season pretty much over.

lol. no thanks. Funny how you think "flee a hurricane" equals "old soft top."
I suppose you could buy a tank if you’re worried about fleeing after the storm strikes.

I was just thinking a convertible might be more enjoyable as a beach car.

wife brought up the same point. But a cart would take up space, too. There would be one remaining assigned spot for vehicle from any renters, and there are 2 spots on a first-come, first-serve.

I wade into this discussion with some transgressions trepidation, but have to ask why, if you are willing to spend $6K on a golf cart, why you wouldn't be willing to spend around the same amount for a vehicle?

Oh, it isn't that I'm willing to spend that much on a golf cart. I just can't find much else. Have come across a few for less, but they are usually a complete mess in need of work. In other words, cars are cheaper than golf carts. Go figure.

@qbrozen - do you have a garage at the SC place, or is it just a carport or similar? I think a golf cart could be more easily hotwired and stolen than a conventional vehicle. I'd lean towards a gas engine on a golf cart, small engines are difficult to kill and easily replaced. With an electric, you probably have to buy batteries every few years. You can always take an Uber if it's after dark. For safety reasons, I'd be more comfortable driving one of those in a "golf cart community" like The Villages with dedicated paths.

Of the cars you listed, I'd take a look at the CR-V. Those are new enough to have a timing chain and even an older one should be perfect for your use conditions.

If I saw it right, seems like the building was on pilings and the parking area was the space between the ground and the building above. So, carport-ish. I agree with you; for long stints away, seems like a car is the way to go. Who knows; maybe @qbrozen could figure out a way to work rental of the car into the property management? The condo's on AirBnB and the car's on Turo! :D

TFL Truck is running a series now. $2,500 challenge. 3 guys had to buy something for that much, and take it on an off road course, then a 300 mile road trip (up and over a mountain in Colorado).

lets just say, you don't get much for that money. Not in a 4WD vehicle. Quite the bombers.

I remember a Top Gear episode where they bought real cheap hoopties (for $500 maybe) and raced them across country. The winner was a 400k mile Crown Victoria that just would not die. The finale was racing up a mountain and the CV as I recall was the only one not to overheat or blow a gasket.

Yes, roughly 2 vehicles back-to-back under the building for parking. I didn't think to measure the length, but I guesstimate it to be about 35 feet, based on the fact I had the transit parked under there and took up slightly more than half the space. However, the back end has storage closets, so I need to leave a little room.

Folks down there use cable locks to secure an axle to a garage column.

Everyone here knows how much I love my Tacoma. It has been nothing short of fantastic over the past 2+ years. Part of the allure is the fact that I've been able to use it to make deliveries for work. I can't remember a personal or work task that was thrown at it (or in it) that my Tacoma couldn't handle. Another big part of my Tacoma experience that gave it a big push in the 1st place was the price. After MSD (which saved me $50 per month), my payment is $324.99 including 6.35% CT Sales Tax.

You all know I ordered a Hydro Blue 4Xe Wrangler for my wife. Once that arrives, I plan on selling my Tacoma and either driving or replacing the Pilot as my DD.

Finally after what has been somewhat of an exhaustive search, I hired a new employee to drive our Box Truck. I had one day where I scheduled 3 interviews and none of them showed up. I interviewed and hired a guy last Monday. Told him on Tuesday that he will start Thursday, confirmed with him via email and he never showed up. I finally found a guy that I interviewed and hired yesterday to start Thursday.
