The left side of our garage is much deeper than the right which has the stairs to inside. I gave my wife the left side since her car is longer, plus it’s easier to pull in on the left.
Some day when I get my classic land yacht we will have no choice but to switch sides.
I've got to clear out the garage so when my wife's 4Xe arrives, we can park that inside. Hockey season is over for my oldest.

My wife always had the right side. Moving now would confuse her! We did that so she had more room to get in and out of the car since drivers door opens into the middle not the side wall. Of course, now that she is usually a passenger, she always complains I’m too close to the right side wall and she doesn’t have enough room to open the door.
The left does have the shelves so a little shallower but. My TLX and sonata fit and those were longer than her rdx. Will see what happens if a Maverick ever arrives!

Had an interesting convo with my 11-yr-old tonight. He was talking about some incoming funds from his report card, Christmas, and his bday. He was saying he can't think of anything he wants. I suggested he could start saving for a car. Of course, he said "but that's so far away!" I answered that, if he starts now, he could get himself a really nice car. He said, "nah. I don't want a nice car as my first car because I'll be worried about it. I want something OK but not a lot. Like this car [we were in the Escape]. I wouldn't be embarassed to drive it, but I wouldn't be afraid to park it in the school lot, and I'd be a new driver so I might make mistakes." That's a smart damned kid. Wish my older one had half as much mental processing power.

mine both had a lot of after school activities so lots of days by the time they were seniors (when they were able to actually drive) they were not leaving immediately and making the bus. So that would have meant picking them up a lot of days, getting out of work to do it. So easier to just let them drive.
Our son went to a private school 12 miles away. Depending on the time of year he had basketball, soccer, or robotics after school so letting him drive was the best solution. The 2002 was his first car, and with those diving board bumpers it was pretty much impervious to damage.

@Sandman6472 I assume that you have an electric hot water heater, so no venting is necessary. Have you considered one of the short, squat models? You can raise it up close to the ceiling. That's what was in my mother's Florida house and the nose of her car parked under it.

Certainly seems strange to me as well. If we had that problem in our 2 1/2 car garage, I'd just switch sides to put the longer car on the longer side as long as the other car fit on the short side. OR we'd have the hot water heater moved. Don't some houses have the heater outside in climates like Florida? Or have the heater in the attic? Or the crawl space? Move the heater. Or just leave a car outside. Or Buy a different house. EZ fix. Too much drama.

I love how every bodies suggested solutions are to fix the house to accommodate the car, and not to compromise on the car!
Honda finally put the full production website up for the Si. Looks nice. pretty well loaded too. Only thing on my wish list it doesn't have is power seats. MSRP with dest. is $28,315. Lot of car for the money. Seats, would have to try those in person to see how they adjust. And how the comfort is with the bolstering (seats were the only thing I did not like about the prior version).
seems like there might be one in stock at one dealer in my area. May have to wander down and check it out if true. Or send TJC, it's closer to him! Not that I expect it to actually be there.
would be nice to actually compare it back to back to the Integra. Which won't be happening any time soon of course. I miss the old days of car shopping and seeing whatever you wanted!
My guess is that they'll have a c. 3-5k adm over msrp on the Civic Si. But yeah, if you could somehow get it at msrp it's a lot of car for the money. Like you, I'd be interested to drive the Integra, which will be the luxury Si with a hatchback. Even though it's been controversial, I like the style of the Integra better than the Civic. I wonder if you could order a Civic Si or Integra in advance and avoid the adm?
Have not heard yet if the eco boost build date of 11/2 (week of) is getting pushed again. Will probably know Thursday I think. No clue when I get a hybrid build date. Probably not until next year.
I think my Honda guy said a reservation would be at MSRP which is fine now. The pictures on the Honda site made it look really nice.
I will be interested in how the base Integra compares to the Civic Touring hatchback. Generally Acura provides a bit more upscale interior and subtle details that make a nice difference. The size and versatility of the hatchback would be a good fit for me. It will be interesting what type of automatic Acura uses for the Integra, CVT, DCT or conventional. I suspect CVT.

I’m in my 4 th and hopefully last house, way too old to move again. Every garage we’ve had has been equally deep except the house we built in SC. That garage was about 3 feet deeper (due to a deep sink and counter top) on the right side which Mrs. j used. She chose that side only because she was used to parking on that side. After whacking the mirror on the 2 nd car she thought that it would be better to switch sides since she could see the drivers side mirror better on the left side of the garage. Pretty sound logic and I had no problem doing that but I told her she had to get within 2 inches of the sealing strip on that side so that there was enough room on the right side of her car so that I could get out of my car which would now be on the right side. So, I had her stand on the left side of the garage so she could see how I pulled in. Once she saw that she said, “I’ll never be able to do that all the time. As pathetic as it is I’ve resigned myself to expect passenger side mirror whacking on her car. I have to give her credit though, she’s a pretty good mirror whacker. So far she’s only whacked the mirrors; no damage to sheet metal YET.

WHOA, if you install a 50 gallon water heater the weight of the tank plus the water is WELL over 400 pounds. You’d have to build a stand that was equally as strong as a floor. Of course that can be done but why?

Speaking of sides of the garage to park on, it reminded me of this story:
I used to park on the right side of the garage. However, my daughter was a youngin' years ago and didn't much care about slamming doors open without a care in the world. We've always put car seats on the right rear seat (except when an infant she was center mounted). Anyways, the entire left side of my beloved TTS is battered, bruised, scraped, gouged, scratched, dented, dinged, and blemished many times.
I then had enough, and made an executive decision, and switched to parking on the left side of the garage!!!!! The dings stopped, not only because she still sits on the right side of the Wife's Tiguan, but because she got older and more coordinated/careful.
The other day my wife says "Why is the whole left side of your car so jacked (forget the exact adjective she used) up? Its got all kinds of marks??!!??" Then my blood pressure rose and I said, "what do you think I complained about all those times each time something happened!!!!!!" You and Penelope did all that damage!" Really I think Penelope did them all herself.
She just turned 8.... I said the TTS would be good until she's 8. She has complained about the back seat being so small. I'm thinking it's good till she turns 9.

There are some limitations with the tankless heaters--the big one for me is that they don't do well with extremely low flows, e.g., a dishwasher. And, if you don't have LP or natural gas available, it's also a no go. It's also sometimes possible to rig a tank water heater in an attic area, but even if you have a drip pan, there is a possibility of a huge mess if it ever leaks or ruptures.
Seems to me that tank type water heaters in Sandy's case have a bigger limitation in making your garage useless for its intended purpose for 90% of the vehicles on the road.
Why not move the water heater outside? It’s Florida, after all.

No, we discussed it again last night at dinner. She won't drive a CUC/SUV but said for me to go ahead...as long as it fits on my side of the garage! So, there ya have it, she's not giving me the longer side of the garage or giving up a sedan with a trunk! And I'm o k with it honestly, but leaves my choices a bit limited. Still liking the Mini Cooper Countryman but again, it's a BMW underneath so am dealing with another German vehicle again. And it would have to be a 2022 or later vehicle a I want the new digital speedometer truth be told. Have been considering the Lexus UX hatch to be honest to but have none in stock, new or CPO'd in South Florida. Now, if going with Lexus, I'd definitely lease and then decide on buying it out depending on how much they want after the term is up. Looks to be a nice vehicle with all the Toyota reliability just a bit on the pricey side. And if it fits in the garage, a definite contender there. But thinking the newer Corolla Cross would be a better fit for my needs at a smaller entry price. And now that I'm not even doing 3500 miles/year, would have it a real long time which ain't really an issue for us. It'll surely be reliable so I can just enjoy it though it might become a bit boring. But boring with great reliability is what I'm looking for now so I'm all in!

Car related side note - the ‘11 328 we are planning on buying from my BiL threw an ABS light this weekend. He is taking it to an indy tonight. We will be waiting anxiously on the full blown diagnosis. Hoping for a simple sensor etc and not a pump failure that I have read about which can get over 2k in cost to repair.

She was probably four years old at the time, and she didn't get to ride in a car without the child lock on until about two years ago (she's 14 now). Every time she would complain, I just reminded her of that instance. She'd say, "I was THREE!!!!" And I would respond, "Some bridges, once burned, can never be rebuilt. You should feel lucky that I let you ride in my car at all."

My son’s were rough on my cars. Once when he was about 8 my older son had a friend over and in the few minutes I wasn’t watching they decided to see how many rocks they could bounce off my car. Result: cracked windshield $300. He said it was her idea. More recently my younger son had people in my cellar which is separated from the garage where I keep the Mustang by just a curtain. A female friend was rocking a chair and it tipped over onto the door of my car. Dent on the crease. $800.

Most painful was a bike pedal along the lower door of the ZHP. Still have nightmares about that one.

Wrangler 392 seems like an interesting flip opportunity…
2017 Cadillac ATS Performance Premium 3.6
Seriously considering an order for a TRX or Wrangler 392 through the PA dealer. 10-11% discount…
It would be a one-two month bucket list ownership and then flip…
I wonder about you
I thought leases weren’t flippable now, so are y’all moving on to buying expensive stuff to resell?

CCAP still allows flipping. It’s an order of magnitude higher risk, but I’d basically be doing it to fund buying the Model Y I want eventually….
4.0 seconds to 60 in a Wrangler must be a boatload of fun.

I’m concerned the 392 Wrangler would take too long to arrive.
Still no word on the Mach E.
Wife will likely drive the Fiat, although she is welcome to the Escape. She’ll probably lay claim to the Benz upon its return.
