If my Maverick isn't scheduled for build by the time I turn the Tundra in, I'm not determined to have one, and Plan B is to lease a Tacoma through the same broker I used before. I'd also considering buying a RAV4 Prime if there were a base model available.

I'm kind of wishing I had ordered a Maverick last year. Although I still might not have it anyway. And I still have no idea whether I would fit in one. I called 3 local Ford dealers this week and asked if they had one that I could test drive. Not buy, mind you, just sit in and drive around the block. "No".

you will fit. they are extremely roomy. And I think you are someone with knee space issues (meaning don't like consoles?) The center console is so low you can really splay your knees if you want. Lots of headroom too. I have read a lot of comments on the forums from big people (tall and wide) that have found it to be very spacious. even 6'7", 300# guys have not had an issue with it.

I sit "tall" (long torso, short legs), have the seat way up high, and a moonroof, and I still have many inches of extra headroom.

if you ever see one in the wild, ask for a test site. Most owners are happy to show them off. We are like pioneers! Or just stop at a Ford dealer anytime you happen to go by. maybe you will get lucky and they will have on on the lot. even if spoken for, you can usually sit in one (just not drive).
Funny you should mention that. I have never seen one "in the wild". Not one, not once. And that was the point of my post - I called 3 Ford dealers this week, asking for the chance to sit in one, no joy.

Yes, you're right, I definitely have "knee space issues", so I'm glad to hear about the low center console. That is very important to me, as is head room. I am 6'2", and have a 30 inch inseam, so I do sit very tall.

I actually got to the point of placing the order, or trying to place the order, online last year with Ford. But they told me I had to call a dealer, I couldn't just go for it online. And I couldn't decide which dealer to try to deal with. The dealership where I bought the 2013 and 2015 F150 has gone sleazy. Naturally, the salesman I dealt with then has left, he wouldn't have hung around with sleazeballs. And the salesman who sold me the 2017 and 2018 F150's (different dealership) has retired.

Are they even taking orders for Mavericks these days?

Ordering for 2022 Ecoboost models closed in January. The order cutoff for hybrid models was sometime last year. Ordering for 2023 models doesn't open until much later this year. Many dealers aren't even maintaining a wait list for 2023. I think Chapman Ford of Horsham, PA may be, though--they are one of two dealers which very heavily marketed on the Maverick boards.

yup. order bank for 2023 opens on 8/16. production sometime in October. So if you need it before next Christmas, would be trying to find one on the lot. Thin supply now, and many dealers are shooting for the moon.

I have no clue if my Hybrid will get built in time for 2022 MY. Probably, but not for sure. and if not, no idea if they will roll it over to be one of the first 2023s off the line, or I have to go back into the order mix. Would hope that Chapman would at least put their 22 orders that did not get built as the first orders submitted for 23.

I'm here to report a tentative punch for next weekend-ish. Got a call from my local dealer. Told the woman what I was looking for and if they were still charging over sticker for Highlanders. She said yes and I told her that I am interested in a Highlander, but am not willing to pay over sticker. She said: "Let me talk to my manager and call you back."

So next week I'll be picking up a Ruby Flare Pearl/Black Guts 2022 Highlander XLE AWD V6. After thinking it over, I decided to finance the Highlander instead of leasing.

I'm going to sell my truck to the dealer (or one of the car buying vendors), give the highlander to my wife until her Jeep arrives, and drive the Pilot until the Jeep arrives. When the Jeep comes, I'm going to sell the Pilot and take the Highlander. If she needs the 3 row SUV (or likes it better) than the Jeep, then we can switch.

    Congrats!

I guess the Maverick market must be different here in Nova Scotia. I did a search last night and found 31 of them supposedly on dealer lots in a 100 mile radius, including 7 at the dealer down the hill from where I live. Most of them are XLTs priced at between $35K-$37K Cdn, though there were a handful of hybrids a bit cheaper. Most of the XLTs had the luxury package. The most expensive XLT was $40K, and next to it on the search results page was the only Lariat model that popped up, at $41K, both of them 2.0T AWDs. Given the small difference in price there, I would take the Lariat of course.

I’m sure all the sports bars are throwing great events to watch the game.

A few years back we had a nice party at my house for the Eagles super bowl win.

Funny story on that.. TV related. I was able to watch the Phillies and Eagles both win championships on my 50” Sony. I joked that when I finally upgraded no Philly team would win again lol

AB, most likely they are not available. Ford controls the website, so a lot of units that are customer order show up (I think) but I know that allocations that are already spoken for do show up as available/incoming. So if they are able to order something for stock, and you claim that today it will show as incoming for the next month until it arrives.

I found that you need to see actual pictures in front of the dealership to it be a real one!

I don't know if relevant anymore, but I was looking at my iTunes folder today and thought I would share regarding my prior comment about folders moving.

Looks like, previously, the location was Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/
The current location puts another layer on that: Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Music

I have several artists in the first location, but they appear to all be duplicated in the "current" location. And, after ripping a new disc onto the computer, I verified that it is also located in the second path.

I gave up on trying to manually organize my music folders some time ago and just let iTunes do its thing. It seems to work pretty well for me, and I've had the library on both a Mac and a PC. The one issue I've had for a long time is that the album art often shows up on the wrong album.

I've been noticing that issue as well, on my iPhone.

I'm currently trying to finish up the alternator change-out on the Q7... and I'm about to lose my mind on it. Seems completely asinine the way it is installed in there. Every time I finally remove one hurdle, the very next thing that needs to be done is a new, and larger, hurdle than the last. I am finally down to the last connection before the old unit is free, but I'll be darned if it isn't another extremely difficult task. And, it should be the easiest of all: Removing the main power cable from the back of the unit.

Nope, I just cannot get it.

I am going to run into town and buy a copious amount of tools that might, possibly, allow me to both access and firmly grab the nut to remove it. All the normal stuff (sockets, standard box wrenches) just cannot get in there and get any movement. Unreal.

CR hates anything with a Domestic nameplate and trucks, too.
The Escape and Bronco Sport are good vehicles. If you copy them, it's a bad thing?
They keep saying 'at that price point'. What else is there?
I have yet to see anyone else say the 2.0 turbo is underpowered.
Maverick has a $1495 destination charge. Santa Cruz is 1245. Not a huge difference.
The Maverick actually has a higher payload than most half ton pickups.

I have never used iTunes personally, but I have fought a number of battles with it. I used to build and upgrade computers for friends, family, co-workers, any number of people. These days, new computers are so cheap people just usually buy a new one. Then they bring me the old notebook and the new notebook and ask me to move everything over. Most of that is pretty easy, occasionally I encounter a program where I can’t find an installer, or I can’t move the license, but mainly it’s no big deal. iTunes is, of course, the exception to that. The program is freely available, no problem. Moving the music files is easy. But getting iTunes to recognize and catalog the music that I just moved is quite often an exercise in frustration.

I don’t spend a lot of time trying anymore. If it doesn’t go smoothly, I just install MediaMonkey, let him index all of the music, and tell the user to forget iTunes. And if they’re really hung up on wanting iTunes, then I recommend they take it to the Apple store.

There are a number of software programs which will find duplicate files and help you to get rid of them. Some are even targeted directly at music, or photos. Google for “find duplicate music files”.

I have no music on my phone. I do have a flash drive in each vehicle containing about 800 mp3 files. I keep a master copy on one of the hard drives in my main computer, and I update that periodically with new music. Then I duplicate that directory tree onto the flash drives for each vehicle. That way, the music and the playlists in each car are always the same.

And here’s a pro tip: If you edit your playlists (*.m3u files) directly, remember that your car stereo is running a RTOS (Real Time Operating System), and those are all based on unix. So use forward slashes, not reverse slashes for path names. Pretty much all music playing software running on Windows PCs can handle forward or reverse slashes. But a lot of car stereos (most?) cannot handle reverse slashes.

MT or whichever magazine got a 7 second 0-60 time was kind of concerning. I'm wondering whether they are running premium in their test vehicle since it's technically not required, although it won't make the rated horsepower on 87.

CR always gets much slower times. they are also the most realistic of any magazine.

the enthusiast mags go for max speed, using drag race launches or whatever it takes. Brake torquing, clutch dumps, etc. CR just sits at idle than hits the gas, like normal driving.

I personally think that the 5-60 time is much more relevant for street cars.

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,300
The 5-60 time is particularly relevant now, in the age of zillion speed automatics... A car with 10 forward gears may already be in 2nd or 3rd at 5 MPH, and be caught flat-footed when someone jumps on the throttle.

My E39 had an annoying characteristic where the five speed auto would start off in second in some situations, unless you aggressively applied the throttle from the time you let your foot off the brake. Otherwise, it would do a second gear start, then kick down to first when you put your foot down harder.

One of my clients brought in a new Tacoma to be lettered at our shop. He said he paid $5000 over sticker which was $35K so he paid around $42K with tax. I wasn't too impressed with the truck. The interior had a lot of plastic and it had steel wheels. He traded in an older one that he got $14,000 for (I think it was a 2015 with around 90K miles) They will probably sell that one for at least $20K)

Many of the tradespeople I deal with are having trouble getting new trucks and vans. One of them about a month ago gave up trying to find Ford Transits so he wound up with 3 new Merc Sprinters which cost in the neighborhood of around $55K each which I think is probably over sticker but not sure.

The check engine light came on on my wife's 2018 Lacrosse so brought it to the dealer. I also noticed the start/stop hasn't been working for at least the past year (which I was happy about) Turns out the electric shutters in the grill (which I didn't even know were there) had frozen up and that triggered the light which had by then gone out) They checked the shutters and cleared the code and then found a weak battery
which was replaced under warranty. Unfortunately now the stop/start is working again but it is pretty unobtrusive. If you want the engine to start again all that is needed is to let off the brake and then when it restarts it will continue to run while stopped.

I was pleasantly surprised that the battery was covered. The factory warranty is up this April and will probably purchase a GM extended plan.

GM has ditched the 4 year warranty on new Buicks and it is now 3 years. That was a bad move. That was one of reasons I bought this 1 year old used Lacrosse as it still had a full 3 years of coverage left. At that time and at my suggestion my son also took advantage of that by buying a 1 year old Encore with 12K miles from Hertz. At the time he was looking at a new Chevy Trax which would have been a few thousand more. He paid $18K for his Essence model and it has served him well so far with around 60K miles.

Stop start, definitely a polarizing feature! I don't like it and usually just turn it off. Yeah, it is one extra button but that just becomes part of the start procedure. On my Acura it is very noticeable, but on the Ford it is much more subtle when it happens.

I assume the Buick (My daughters 2018 Jetta was like this) doesn't have a button to turn it off? If so, one trick is to feather the brake. She did this all the time on the Jetta. You press just hard enough to keep the car in place, but not hard enough to engage the auto stop.

One thing I really love about both Volvos is if you turn the start/stop it stays off forever. It is also tied to your profile so when my wife drives it is on for her. The start stop staying off started in 2019. Prior to that it reset Everytime you shut the car off.

Volvo had the EPA cycle run with stop start off so that is why they could leave it permanently off.

should be a fun game. And it is nice for a change seeing some new teams in there. I always root for a team like the Bengals which hasn't been at the top in forever.

I’m very conflicted about this game.

Like @stickguy, I like to root for the underdog, but I grew up a Rams fan as a kid in SoCal, and much of my family and friends are still big supporters.

I’m just hoping it will be a good game, like so many others this post season.

@kyfdx - I requested my mom make me a cheesecake for my birthday next month. I hope she’s able to get the ingredients.

Cincinnati chili dip usage is off the charts for Super Bowl parties, in this area. So, any slight cream cheese shortage gets amplified, this week.

I think that's the only dish my son really knows how to make, and he invited people over for today's game. lol
