they are a great invention. much better than having to deal with the parking garage and paying for it.

So, cellphone lots are free to park in? That's why we don't have them. In our airport you pay for everything. Would never fly here.

You don’t leave your car and I think there is a 30 min limit (if enforced?)

    @stickguy
They still park on the ramps. Picked the wife up last week and there must have been 30 cars. Peeked over into the cell lot and it was wide open.

At Philly using the cell lot costs you maybe 1 minute. It’s actually well designed to loop around and back onto the ramp to the terminals. Probably one of the only things well designed at PHL.

I get the distinct pleasure of flying out of Newark next Wednesday. Leaving from there since I’ll be up at the office and then I’ll drive home Friday when I come back from Dallas

I crawled underneath. still pristine under there. still had stickers on the suspension too!

multiple trips to the touchless wash for an underbody spray, and 3-4 hand washes over the winter, combined with doing everything possible to avoid being out on salty roads, paid off!

the original MSRP on that was $29,755. plus about $425 for the rhino liner. I paid a little under $28,000 for it (plus the liner of course).

you can't actually get a 2023 like that (FWD ecoboost), at least not in an upper trim (not sure about on an XL).

I used Newark I think the last 3 times I flew, even though Philly was much closer. Just a factor of where direct flights went, and/or huge cost differential. Just an extra hour of so driving, but I do have a park and fly lot there I like. Philly, I actually don't mind that airport but probably never using it again at this point!

now my local airport is Albany. convenient to get to (and cheap parking if needed) but can't get many places direct. So a choice of paying more and making a connection, or driving 2-3 hours to get to a big airport. Will probably use Boston if going international. Lots of flights, and I can park for free in my daughter's garage spot and get free transportation to Logan!

The clock in the 06 TL is GPS linked so the time used to update automatically. About 2 years ago it stopped updating and the functionality to reset the clock manually is grayed out and not usable. I took it to Honda as they had a similar set up in the Accord and they couldn't figure it out either. Researching forums on AcuraZine apparently this a known issue. As the car is so old no fix available. The clock is correct only during day light savings time.

The insanity continues. At least on some models. It's really hard to believe that Ford hasn't found a way to ramp up production on these things. But then, I'm a Ford truck guy, my last 3 new trucks and 1 used truck, all Fords. But I just purchased a new Silverado, because Ford just doesn't have the products. I think if I owned any Ford stock I would dump it.

I may be mis-remembering things, but it seemed like F-150 inventory was not nearly as scarce as Explorers, Edges, and Escapes. And then there was the EcoSport--you could have as many of those as you wanted, but that doesn't strike me as a vehicle that people want.
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,285

This is interesting. My parents had a 1990 base 740 sedan in the same charcoal color back in the day. It’s not $26k worth of “interesting,” though.

I think going with a diesel would be the wrong move at this juncture. They're just too stifled with emissions crap (that is unreliable, fails regularly, and leads other systems on the car toward an early grave), they cost too much more up front, and the substantially higher cost of fuel means you'll literally never be able to recoup the added costs. Sure, you will be able to stop at the station less frequently, but you'll still pay a lot more when you do.

So I sat down, looked at my gas app for this winter with the Tahoe and the average fuel economy was 13 mpg. Gremlin (our 2018 Ram Cummins averages 15-17 mpg in the winter depending on what we are doing, hard to gauge because the use is so varied). So I spent $260/mo on gas this winter with my Tahoe, if the diesel Tahoe could average 18-19 mpg, which considering Gremlin is much bigger and easily did that when hubby used it consistently for just driving not towing, I could shave $60/mo off. The diesel engine in the Tahoe is a $995 option, it’s 1/2 paid for itself in one winter. I can up the fuel economy even more if we can manage to squeeze the big beast into the garage too.

I do plan on actually keeping it. I would keep the Tahoe I have now, it being a pig and all, if it had all the options I want.

As for emissions and all that fun stuff. We’ve had one issue so far with Gremlin and that was the DEF heater, $2500 repair, but compared to all the other “gremlins” that truck has had it wasn’t a big deal. Airbag light anyone? 🙄

New Tahoe was ordered yesterday so the wait is on. My Tahoe is being sold on Saturday most likely. So Gremlin and I are going to get friendly I suppose. At least I put a new stereo, speakers, back up camera, and heated seats in it this winter. Was better than selling a paid off truck and spending $85k to replace it.

The CVG cell phone lot is very handy. 2 minutes to the terminal, at most, and it's right on the way in to the airport, as well. But, you don't park anywhere else, even for a minute, or you're busted.

It used to be easy to circle around again to the terminal, if you were a few minutes early. But, they reconfigured the road, so that you have to exit the area, then go through two traffic lights to get back. Since they did that, I've noticed the cell phone lot gets a lot more use.

My carrier was bought out by a larger conglomerate and, although I haven't yet gotten any formal notices, I've heard through the grapevine that in 2023, they are nonrenewing all of that carrier's personal lines policies and instructing agents to place them under the new company's offerings, assuming they meet underwriting criteria. We'll see how that goes. Probably a good time to shop around.

State Farm would definitely be less expensive for me, but it looks like their policies max out at $500k liability and $250k per person UM/UIM, so I'd be reducing the $1M combined single limit I presently have for liability as well as the $1M UM/UIM.

Looks like my schedule will allow me to go pick up the bimmer tomorrow. I think I previously said it was a '93? It is a '92.

Last night, I secretly tried to obtain an extremely rare Nissan Stagea 260RS, which is basically an R33 GTR with wagon body. I guess me keeping quiet about it didn't change anything since it hammered for a whopping $32,200 USD. I was not coming anywhere close to that. I stretched to $10k, which would have then hit my doorstep at about $13.5k-$14k after everything, including NJ tax.

Not sure what I'll do with the plates. I've heard rumors that NJ cops don't like seeing out of state dealer tags. Not sure what they can actually do about it, though. I mean, it isn't illegal, as far as I know.
