I ran mine a month or 2 ago. IIRC it was a little below MSRP? Not that I was looking to sell.

I think Subaru has a $399/month lease available on the Solterra this month - first payment due at signing. That seems pretty solid, given the MSRP.

that the electric? I don't think one of those is in the cards.

Yeah, low-ish range, not super competitive in its space (other than the fair lease).
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
A roundabout new car - a friend with I skate with in the winter just picked up a 24 Crosstrek. He chose it as per him, it was the only local dealer not playing ADM or mop 'n glo games with a car he actually wanted. I think it was just over 30K, so not totally loaded. Dark blue with grey interior IIRC. Not a chronic car buyer though, as it replaces a 300K mile 1990 Nissan pickup he bought new (he donated it). I think it's really to appease his wife, as their other car is an STi and I suspect this is more suited to a 65 year old woman (but the reactions from the young ones seeing her get out of the driver's seat must be amusing).

A sales guy said range is around 240 miles. I wonder how they are going to sell if it's only 240 miles?

The one I was looking at in the show room had the hood open and a Toyota sticker was on the underside of the hood.

If my wife or I had a 240 mile electric, we'd just take the other car, if we were going further than 100 miles from home.. That might happen 8 or 9 times/year. No sweat.

Same. And maybe not that often! I rarely drive more than 100 miles in a week so we would not even have to plug in that often. It would be the perfect 2nd car for us to go along with the truck.

240 miles is about the range of my Polestar 2. And I'd generally charge it up to 90%. I never had any issues as my run-around-town vehicle, but I never had the desire to test out the charging network on a roadtrip.

Both the Q8 e-tron and my wife's Mach E are sub-300 miles on range. Again, totally fine for daily commuting.

But both of us have alternative ICE vehicles when needed.

Not quite sure I am following your logistics though. You can't get a mortgage if you didn't close on the house. They need to go together.

but if you signed papers and got the loan already, and somehow don't end up with the house, you still owe them the money.

I suppose you'd owe them an immediate payoff of the loan by giving them their money back plus a few days interest, of which the buyer should be sued for. But what if you just disappeared into a 3rd world country with the money?

I’d take a 240 mile range EV that can use the supercharger network versus a 300 EV that couldn’t.

Speaking of EV road trips, I was both surprised and pleased at the amount of expansion I saw in charging options, particularly on the remoter stretches of road, but I think we're still a long way from prime-time for being able to do my journey with an EV. I mean, one *could* do it, but it would be a much longer trip just waiting on the car to recharge in some areas.

My Jeep dealer just received an off-lease 2021Sahara 4xe; every option but the tow group( :( ) and the power sunroof(which I definitely do not want). Boring white over black color combo but it's worth a look. I'd prefer a similarly equipped Rubicon(like the one that got away) but this one will work; I'm checking it out tomorrow.

I'm still a bit in shock myself but maybe just maybe...it was meant to be. On my way home from work today, my tire icon came on. Now, I just bought three new tires on August 31st, so it couldn't be one of he new ones...could it? Turns out, it was my right rear, the old tire. Luckily I got off at 4:30 after eight hours, so went to my Tires Plus store. They found a long nail in the tire and said it couldn't be replaced. But somehow, I already knew that was coming.
So, now, have got four brand new tires, all of the same brand & tread. While there, got the 3-year alignment policy and they did the alignment. Since the wheel was crooked, I implored the guy who did it to make the steering wheel straight as I'm super anal about that which my sales guy agreed with! Car tracks straight now, he also had to adjust the rear caster, or camber...just not sure. Steering wheel is straight, so I'm a happy camper. In total, wasn't an expense I had planned on but that's part of life, these unexpected issues that we all must deal with. And I did, so now, we're all good!
Must be a sign from G-d up above that my time with the Golf isn't over yet. So, she stays in the garage for at least the next year. But, had an interesting talk with the better half about her next vehicle. She just hit 80K and he oil light came on again last Thursday where the Audi dealer again, topped it off. They looked at her last oil/filter change in May & have no clue why it uses so much oil & to where it's all going. So, I asked what she wants next. We talked about a bunch of small vehicles like we both have now. Mentioned all the available products out there & then I asked..."what about another A3"? And she said that's on the of of her list! I was surprised because all the little issues she's had but, she loves the size & wants exactly the same size next time. So, if I were a gambling man, which I'm not, I'd wager that there will be a 2025 Audi A3 on her side of the garage, eventually. Will definitely have her test drive all the smaller vehicles I picked, but it's her choice...and her pocketbook. Did let her know that there's been a pretty big price bump since we got her 2015 A3, but she said that's not an issue! Since we both buy our own vehicles, we don't tell the other what to buy or how much they can spend. So, am happy that she's got the personal funds to buy anything she wants. I know our situation might sound strange to most, but that's just the way things are. I get that her folks left her much more than my dad left me & am perfectly o k with that. Just a subject we don't discuss, ever & again, I'm fine with that!

Audi has improved the A3/S3 quite a lot since 2015. Test drive any 2017 model and newer and the difference might be immediately apparent. The TTS received those improvements in 2016 models, of which I'm a happy recipient.

Won’t burning a lot of oil eventually ruin the catalytic converter? I can imagine that’s pretty pricey on an Audi.

Everything is pretty pricey on an Audi.
There are still some items that are not overpriced, but that applies to the more mainstream models, and perhaps my shop knowing which OEM equivalent manufacturer direct supplied parts save $$$ for the same part.

A lot of times, the factory tow package has upgraded cooling and a bigger alternator, in addition to the hitch and wiring. On modern vehicles, things like trailer sway control.

A local dealer has had this on their lot for a little while. Priced at about $4k over sticker (based on what I can tell of the equipment).

I'm not one of those who hates the styling, and I love the color.

I don't hate the styling, but I don't think it looks anywhere as nice as the F87. As I've said before, it looks like the front and rear fascias were designed by Lego. If I get any M2, it will be an F87 CS.

News and notes. Regarding my Chronic Car Buying friend looking to unload his wife's Audi Q5: A few months back, my friend's Dad traded in his MB GLS 450 for a Genesis G90. He looked at a G70 back when his Dad got the G90 and liked it. They wanted a lot of money to lease it. So after going back and forth a lot with the Lexus dealer, he decided to go and test drive the Genesis 1 more time. Turns out the Genesis dealer has a friend who works at the VW store, which can buy out the Audi lease cheaper than the Genesis store can. So he's picking up the G70 today, with the bigger engine. White/White.

On top of the $7500 EV bonus.

There is $1000 dealer cash, too - I wonder how much "dealer contribution" is needed to get to that payment?

Still no sales tax on EVs in NJ?

I noticed on the NFL game last night that Ford ran an ad for the Mach-E with a caption saying that dealers had inventories on their lots. This was not a local ad but on TSN, a national sports network. I don’t remember seeing anything like that in many years.

The no tax on EVs in NJ makes them a very compelling option.

My biggest issue with some of these high MSRP EVs and even PHEVs like my Wrangler is that cities and towns that charge property tax are valuing them at full MSRP. I just paid the property tax on my 4Xe. $955.

We are at $620 for the XC with about two tanks of premium a month. I figure it is a wash. It is also cheaper than a comparable XC90 lease right now.

I have zero idea on the ChargeUp. Will have to look into it.
