Are you underwater with the WRX? Is the Maverick selling for over sticker?

    Does it matter?

Definitely not underwater on the Rex. Would need to check payoff but I should be $5k-$6k positive.

Ford would need to be ordered I’m sure. @stickguy can share what the discount was from Chapman, if any. But I know it isn’t over msrp.

The Maverick made it to Little Rock today. Averaged around 25 MPG on the first tank, which is impressive, because I'd made a bunch of short trips around town and the gauges indicated something in the teens as the average mileage for the first 1/4 tank. Added a couple of gallons at an unscheduled fuel stop before hitting the Kroger Fuel I had planned to stop at to use my points. Kentucky folks may remember the center median rest area on the Western Kentucky Parkway--I highly recommend the blueberry coffee at the Hucks Travel Center there.

@qbrozen, there is a guy on the Maverick board who has swapped either a larger turbo from the 2.3 EcoBoost, or the entire engine, I'm not sure which. That might be even more to your liking, coming from a WRX!

Not something I'd do with a car under warranty.

Remind me which trim you got.

I would have thought the XLT would be more to my liking, but then saw the XLT doesn't add anything I find necessary. In the F150 I had, the XL to XLT change the driver's seat, and that turned out to be necessary for me since the base seat sucked. But, in the Mav, the XL and XLT both come with a 6-way manual seat.

Funny thing; we drove the Club Sport to a local store to pick up charcoal for the grill and saw a guy that used to work at my son's school. He had a Wrangler and I mentioned I had bought a 4xe and was selling the 1999. I told him it was at my local shop getting a few glitches repaired. He said he was going over today to check it out. He's not even on the list of guys who have told me that they wanted it if I ever sold it.

@qbrozen - mine's an XL AWD with CoPilot 360. The XLT interior has some nicer contrasting colors (including seat fabric), but my XL's is no more cave-like and dark than my previous Tundra was. The XL now includes basic cruise control, which I believe was the first mod I did to my 2022 (it wasn't standard then). Seat-wise, I think one of the uplevel trims have a power adjustable lumbar support, which is absent on my XL. I believe the Lariat gets leather or pleather.

Performance-wise, as I've noted, the 2.0T EcoBoost will get you to 60 in about six seconds on premium. No launch technique is required at all on the AWD--I tried brake torquing it at about 2,500 RPM, and it made no difference. XL and XLT have 17" wheels--steelies on the XL and aluminum on the XLT.

In terms of irritations, the worst for me is that the CarPlay and Bluetooth audio streaming integration is extremely buggy, despite my running current software on both phone and the Mav. The door seals aren't great in crosswinds. The ride quality is notably better than my dad's Ranger, and I think the driving dynamics are outstanding for its $25k-ish price point.

I still need to add my dashcam and put a coat of Zaino on it. After using it for road trips, I think the next mod beyond that will be to add a power tailgate lock so that I can throw luggage under the tonneau and have the tailgate lock everything up (the tonneau releases require you to lower the tailgate).

not sure what they are doing right now, but last I saw Chapman was at 3% below invoice (though invoice is not all that much lower than MSRP). Still, a nice discount.

no clue how many orders they have, or if they still have allocations to use (if orders > allocations you will never get built). But you can contact Ed Simpson at the philly branch and ask what they are doing.

in terms of trims, they are actually building fewer XL models than XLT (by a lot IIRC). so more likely to never see it built. Also, other than the seat fabric and a few niceties, the biggest difference on the XLT is you can get the luxury package. Among other things, that gives you a power driver's seat (though it is only 6 ways) which might be important to you.

I have not been following too closely but I think there are some ecoboosts floating around as stock availability and some dealers are doing MSRP on in-stock units too. Or of course, you can go negotiate. Plus your trade changes the dynamics. But I would poke around to see if you can find a dealer that actually has one on the lot. Or a slightly used one maybe (heck, Carvana has a boatload, see if they want your WRX enough to make the deal work).

Browsed some lots with the wife today. Started at an Audi dealership that had some nice used vehicles my wife had been flirting with, including a 2023 M340i with 500 miles (I’d say how does that happen, except I guess I just have to look in the mirror). It was beautiful…Tanzanite Blue with Mocha interior.

Then we headed to a Ford dealer to look at a Bronco there. As you may recall, we have our Heritage edition scheduled to be built later this year, but this local dealer had one mostly like our last one, but in the nicer Outer Banks trim. It also has the V6, while our ordered one was spec’d with the 4 cylinder. Anyhow, the one at the dealer was already advertised around $2k off sticker, but with add-ons for tint and clear bra. We took a look at it and said we’d consider it, but have to decide if we want to wait for the Heritage Edition. The manager said they were motivated to move it and took another $1k off and “waived” the charges for the tint and clear bra. So a legitimate $3k off a brand new Bronco. Market is cooling a bit?

Very coincidental, on the way to that Ford dealer, we passed a new Heritage Edition in the cactus gray like our order and it was very cool. So likely will simply wait for that. Plus we should be eligible for all the price protection on it.

Also ended up taking the Mustang GT for a test drive. This was a GT Premium with the performance pack and recaro seats.

I’ve only test driven one once before, and it’s been several years. I was pleasantly surprised (and pleased) with how civilized it was overall, at least compared to my expectations. The shift feel was crisp and it was an easy manual to drive. I found it fun to drive in traffic at slower speeds as well as when the road opened up, largely due to the throaty sound of the V8. Lots of character and very different from anything else I’ve owned.

The jutting tablet thing also irks me - I vastly prefer the screen design in my car where it is more integrated into the dash. I suspect the wacky "hyperscreen" option on these cars is very rare.

How does Ford (or any car manufacturer really) miss stuff like this? CarPlay/Bluetooth is ubiquitous now and works seamlessly in just about every vehicle I've tried. in fact Bluetooth sometimes annoys me in a rental or loaner because it connects when I didn't ask it to. And as for the weather seals, that is just basic stuff that should have been addressed early in the development process. Makes me wonder what else they missed.

I’ve not had any issues with door seals in 18 months of ownership. And the infotainment has been fine. Very rarely I might need to reset after doing something that confuses it but out Acura does the same thing.

Mine will often fail to connect CarPlay when the phone is plugged in, then it connects several minutes later. Bluetooth audio streaming, audio will randomly stop, and then it will say it's disconnected from my phone. The backup camera often takes several seconds after shifting to reverse before it shows up on the screen.

I think the door seals are just flimsy or inadequately designed, causing the wind noise in crosswinds--probably okay for a $25k vehicle, but at the $40k plus sticker of a fully loaded one, I would be more annoyed.

My C43 and the previous generation Mustang have the digital display built into a conventional instrument binnacle.
Of course, in the case of BMW the display graphics themselves are a joke; hard to read at a glance and with essentially no configuration options.

I'd think long and hard about an M340i; they are impressive at first blush, but in the end what you have is an M Sport 330i with more horsepower- that's not bad, just underwhelming- to me at any rate.

In contrast, TH really dislikes the new four cylinder C43. I believe one of the guys said that the engine and transmission act as if they have never been formally introduced.

That reminds me of when Mrs. j and I were only married for a few months and we were invited to a party where we only knew a few couples but figured what the heck. After about and hour one married guy asked us, “is this your your first date”? Turns out he was only married for a few months and he and his wife’s heads seemed to bob joyously in unison to whatever question they were asked. It takes time I guess to be your own person.

While up in the Orlando area on Wednesday night with my one daughter, get a call at the hotel from my wife that her battery died. She's not home & at a restaurant nearby. She left the battery paperwork on the table at home but I had taken a pic on my phone of it before we left town. Called up the guy who said, yep, it's still under warranty, bought 8/15/22, and they could be at or house at 8 am the next day. Said fine but what about now as she ain't home! Told me to call roadside which I did. While filling out the info on my phone, wife calls and said she got it started so I told her to cancel her evening appointment & go home. Turns out battery was almost dead, so for $20, they popped in a new one & all is well. So strange that it finally goes out when I'm hundreds of miles away and the receipt is on the table in the kitchen!

When I lived in SC from ‘92 to end of ‘96, between 3 cars I think I went through 4 batteries. All of those cars had the top of the line battery from K-Mart that were bought in PA before moving South. When the first battery died it was still under warranty so of course I went to K-Mart. They still had pretty good rated batteries and when I asked the guy if the one he was giving me had the same CCA, he said it did but he goes on to say, “CCA down here aren’t as important as up North because you won’t be starting your car in 0 degree weather down here but it will cook a lot more in our Summer heat. That’s what killed this battery. Down here you want a battery that can take the heat and that’s what you’re getting now. This battery has a much higher heat rating than your old battery. In fact, I don’t think K-Mart sells this battery up North”.

I learned from text books that heat kills at least as many batteries as cold weather. Now I was living it first hand.

I'm really curious as to whether the shop coded the new battery to the car. Audis are odd like that, in that while nearly every vehicle in the world operates just fine with a battery that is not monitored by the vehicle's computer system at all, Audi insists that it is better, somehow, if it is monitored and the alternator's output to the battery varies over the life of the unit. If you put a new battery into the car without coding it, you can expect about a year of use from it before it just up and dies.

In lieu of coding, you can just unplug the little connector on the negative battery terminal that allows the computer to monitor it, and then it behaves just like any other car in the world.

Well, if they ban you then you and I will be leaving on the same bus. As shown in my signature line the newest car we have is Mrs. j’s 2018 Subie and my 2015 Genny will be shaving soon by some standards set in here.

We only need 1 car now so my youngest grandson the car wrecker (he’s the one that put his Mini out of commission trying to move a landscape boulder avoiding a deer while delivering pizza), wants me to sell both cars and buy a new one. Being we’re moving into Winter around here pretty soon, even if I do get another car, it won’t be now.

FWIW, I had to put a new battery in my ‘15 Genny this past Friday. I knew the battery was in the trunk so I went on line to see what was involved in changing it. On the positive terminal there are 2 small connectors that have to be removed. The video, while pretty good, did not say what they were for and I was guessing one or both might have something to do with computer inputs of some kind.

I called the Interstate Battery outfit not far from me to get a price on the battery. Their price was the same for either carry out or for them to install it.

I wasn’t feeling all that great on Friday (recovering from groin hernia surgery last Tuesday), so Son #1 took the car in for the new battery to be installed. It made no sense installing it myself, plus didn’t have to go through taking the old battery back to get the old battery deposit back. A couple ticks over 300 bucks all in with tax.

BTW, that is one BIG battery, I never saw a battery that long before so glad no one had to schlep that sucker around.

    @jmonroe1,
I'm sure some of the bill was due to having to sync up the Battery Management System to the new battery.
All new vehicles seem to have them. Not sure if you kept the battery on a charger, but 8 years is pretty good.

I hope your recovery is going well and feeling better. You have to stay in shape for those laps around the dining table!

    Thanks

Tell me about it. No mercy for the weak in this house. One good thing, she clearly heard the doctor say, “no sweeper pushing for at least 3 weeks”. I made him repeat it so she could hear him. That’s the part she didn’t like. :#
