Almost all of these EVs had $7500 rebates. Of course they are going to have lower resale value.

Leasing is the way to go on EVs. Tons of rebates, no tax credit hassles, no carrying the bag on depreciation. No brainer.

    Congrats, @breld!

I kinda stayed away because people in these forums seem pretty commuted to the combustion engine. Owning the Volt, I learned that I actually prefer the EV driving experience. The transition to EVs is really an exciting time in the automotive world. The Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4 PHEVs, for example, are all huge improvements over the Volt. Similarly EVs now are better than those made just a few years ago. So my interest is more in sharing and comparing driving and owning experiences during this automotive revolution taking place in our lifetimes.

Okay, so I guess I should post a pic of the Kia. Kia Sportage PHEV, Prestige trim. Loaded with everything. The tech on these is amazing. This replaces our Encore, which was a fabulous little workhorse, but we need a vehicle that’s a little roomier now.

Punch may be imminent on a Chevy Blazer EV. Volt is still running great, but I have had some injuries in the last year or so where sitting in such a low vehicle is no fun. And we have a grandchild now, and another on the way, so having two roomier vehicles is making more sense when they visit. Blazer is a mid-size so it is larger than the compact Sportage.

    Nice Kia.

I know what you mean about the tech. Rented a Hyundai Kona turbo with all the options, a couple weeks ago. Pretty amazing (though not EV or hybrid)

Suydam, nice to hear from you again. I took a look and Edmunds has a lot of EV/PHEV discussion boards, but I didn’t find many with a lot of posts, although admittedly I didn’t look at all of them.

Was considering just charging it with a handheld can. I’m not even sure that is possible on a completely empty system.

Ah, I forgot about moisture. Guess I’m farming it out.

Yeah, you need a vacuum pump. They aren't terribly expensive; I can send you a link for the one(s) that my son bought, which seem to work well for both vehicle and mini-split systems.

After owning an eco boost and hybrid maverick (so apples to apples other than drivetrain) I actually much prefer the hybrid deriving experience. Flat out not quite as quick but still pretty close. But in normal driving it is much more pleasant. Even without factoring in the better MPG I like the hybrid better. That is just icing (averaging about 40 mpg)

Congrats on the allroad! I've always liked the looks of that generation.

Generation? It's a 2023! My 10 year old describes things about 5 year ago as "ages" ago.

I was looking at the A6 Allroad... they are rarer than rare though, so haven't test driven it yet. @breld How's the acceleration compare to an S4/SQ5 you think?

    Thanks.

I personally prefer the ICE, partly because I know it's the last Hurrah of owning great ones; some are already discontinued and only found on the used market (TTRS :( )

However, I don't hold anything against those that have adopted hybrid or electric powertrains. Whatever floats your boat!!!!

I have to say car shopping overall is much more pleasant than even a year ago when there was no negotiation and even markups from MSRP. With both the Kia and the Blazer there was none of that. In fact the Blazer EV is going to cost less than the Kia PHEV (PHEVs are having their moment it seems, and don’t stay on lots very long). EV market has lots of new models and competition which is good. Sales are up for everyone not named Tesla. Much better atmosphere than the last few years.

Had an extremely bad therapy session on Monday and almost passed out in their bathroom the world was spinning around so much! Sat in front about 45 minutes before I could drive home. Fell into bed when i got home but went to bathroom about 8:15 or so, and again, the world was spinning. Luckily I had my walker and fell into the wall in front of me and the shower enclosure just to my left. Didn't shatter the glass, but was very scary! Had to cancel today's therapy as I'm just not ready. Have to go at 8:30 on Wednesday but will take an Uber/Lyft as I don't feel safe driving. Seeing my ENT Friday morning for a check-up.

Guessing I could drive over by tomorrow but don't want to take the chance right now. Wife is staying in Ft. Lauderdale the next couple of nights, so am alone right now. Left me plenty of easy meals so we'll see what happens. Must admit, that spinning sensation I had twice yesterday really scared the heck out of me. Got a feeling I might have to stop driving for awhile which isn't something I thought would happen so soon. And since I won't put other folks out, ride sharing might have to do for the near future. Trying to not let the depression get to me, but starting to feel like there might be a big life change coming and I ain't happy at all!!!

I actually haven’t driven it yet. From the passenger side, it felt plenty quick and smooth, but certainly not as engaging as an S4 or even the SQ5.

As we get older, it seems we favor the smoothness. 😀

Well, casual browsing on Saturday turned into a punch for us today.

Wife liked her X5 just fine, but craved something with a bit more character and she loves herself a wagon.

So this slightly used Audi A6 Allroad came up…looked at it Saturday and made the deal today. It provides all the comfort and functionality of the X5 but in cool wagon form.

Now that we have the 4xe I think we will pass on any other CUV/SUV. My wife has always wanted a Mercedes SL, and while that's not my thing I think she should get one while she can still enjoy it. Once I'm retired I'm going to suggest that we replace the X1 with an SL.

we can certainly trade one utility vehicle for something fun as long as my wife doesn't mind driving it. But she would have no interest in a convertible for something she drove all the time. Good thing she hardly ever drives so it is basically my car too!

She is not a fan of really low cars. Never was, and at our age, even less so!

On the SUV/CUV front, our needs have changed as well as the kids have moved on to college and out of the household (mostly). We still like to have one capable hauler for the Home Depot/Costco trips, the occasional night out with friends/kids and the road trips that we hope to do more of.

The wife having the X5 and now the Allroad frees me up somewhat, although I have to admit I like the ease of throwing my tennis equipment in the back of the hatch in the e-tron. But I could see going the route of something like the i5 next go around. I've also been curious about a Genesis Electrified G80...local dealer has a "used" one with 500 miles (probably a demo?) that's like $30k off MSRP.

In April we took a family trip to Europe. Flew out of Newark (about 3 hours from where we live) to save money. Rented a Pacifica to get to the airport. 5 adults and and luggage for a week (so multiple pieces per person) and we all fit in perfect comfort. And it drove surprisingly nice.
