I'd guess to the right nutjob in Benelux or England, where the cars seem to have the most interest, it could bring 15K anyway. The car was very clean and original, but not restored. I suspect it had been repainted at some time, but interior and under the hood were orginal.
The same guy had a pristine 300TD, a late (85) car in black on palomino, it looked and ran like new He sold it several years ago...put $7500 on it and it was gone in a couple days.
dieselmania has definitely lost its luster in California, although the cooking oil scene is still simmering. We use recycled cooking oil in our city's diesel fleet. But then it's a college town so cheap kitchen grease is a major industry. :P
I saw a pretty clean 300D coupe sell for real cheap around here just a week ago.
Same here, the dieselheads are back in hiding until gas hits $5 again. I don't see idiots on craigslist wanting $15K for a Volvo diesel or anything like that.anymore. But, it'll come around again.
I mean, DO THE MATH people! Even if I gave you free gas for two years it wouldn't compensate for paying $10,000 for an old worn-out diesel car.
Now if there were NO GAS WHATSOEVER, then it might make sense. Of course, then fast food restaurants would be charging $5 a gallon for used cooking oil and hordes of zombies who feed on grease will be roaming the streets attacking Mazzola trucks. :P
I find modern diesels as seen on the Euro market to be remarkable, and I do find some charm in the agricultural quality of an old MB diesel, but for whatever reason I haven't been lured in. That could always change...
Speaking of wagons, I found this image today, apparently made by someone with photoshop skills. This looks pretty good IMO:
Yes, you're right about the Aston Martin V12...I guess I just get picky when prices go above a million...those new Jag V8s may be miles better than the old I6, but they're just missing something. And why do so few modern engines look good?
Has anyone ever decided to sell a car but not really had their heart in it?
I ran the car on eBay with a somewhat high reserve a month or two ago. I got a huge response but no bids. I did get an offer of $12K after the fact, but I kind of left that in limbo and the guy bought another car. I put an ad on Craigslist about a month ago that gets some responses. A guy called me Saturday and said he would show up with $11,500 cash and buy it if it was as represented. I said I'd think about it, but I wasn't ready to do that deal yet. Maybe I'll regret it eventually.
If someone offered me $13K or so, I'd jump on it. At less than $11K, I'd keep it around for its good looks and an occasional drive. It is the in between numbers that seem to elicit no real feelings from me.
He wants you to pay him back for all the extra stuff he put into the car, at 100 cents to the dollar, rather than the garage sale rate for used equipment, which is about 10 cents on the dollar.
AND he's got 165K on his car. Dreaming indeed. "Hey honey, is the phone broken? It doesn't ring anymore".
Oh yeah, buying a V-12 used without warranty is like being thrown into the fiery pits of Hell by Satan's minions, but what the hell...they are fabulous cars to drive and you can always live in it.
I have the perfect solution for him....just cut the price exactly in half and you'll be market correct. Okay, let's go hog wild and add an extra $500 for miles.
You think they could shampoo the floor mats and clean up the steering wheel if trying to get that much money. Even as a fan of those cars I agree with Mr Shiftright that about 5K is all I'd give.
How do those scams work? Do they try to get you to wire the money? Why put such a ridiculous price? Wouldn't they do better posting a price 75% of avg retail?
2002 Harley --he can't spell Harley BECAUSE he owns one? ( I know, that was mean :P )
Dodge Stealth -- money pit for newbies.
90 Mustang -- someone needs to tell the boy he can't sell it without a title or bill of sale from the legal owner. Doesn't sound TOO bad really, unless the parking pawl broke off inside the transmission when someone tried to steal it by pushing it in park.
51 Ford Vicky -- well, if it weren't painted baby poop brown it would be worth around $20,000 but as it is----let's just say we hope a blind man bids on it.
Honda Del Sol -- yes, very good kid's car because 2-seaters are statistically safer for teenagers. It's a girl's car mostly. I don't think a hormone-driven young man would touch it.
Stealth - I wouldn't look at it unless it's the R/T.
00 Crown Vic police car. How can you tell it was written by a 16 year old?
Has the regular fabric police front seats with leather rear seats(it was a juvenile unit at a local Dallas middleschool so the worst that has been in the back is a middleschooler who skipped class not some dirty convict)
Umm, that's vinyl not leather in the back seat. And I'm pretty sure that cops have better things to do than to arrest kids playing hookey.
Its got around 300hp at the wheel
Riiiiiiiiiight, they were rated at about 235hp. Take drivline friction loss, wear and tear, mileage, and you'd be lucky if it had 150 horses left at the wheel. I don't think he even knows what HP at the wheels is.
I've seen these supercharged ONLY and push well over 500hp at the wheel.
Teenager talk. "My Civic has 250HP cause it's got exhaust, short shifter, and air intake" :lemon:
The car could use a new power steering pump and pulley($75 at AutoZone) and a belt tensioner($30 at AutoZone). If you bought the power steering pump and the tensioner I will have them professionally installed for free!.
If it's only $100 to get the parts, why wouldn't you just fix it then? Especially if you have access to a free professional mechanic? :confuse:
That M3 is a scam. Whenever you have to e-mail someone's personal e-mail that is shown within the ad you know they are scamming. Heck, the price of that car is a BIG tip off regardless. If it is legitimate, though, I may buy it, just as soon as the Royal Family of Nigeria sends me my share of the fortune that I sent my personal information information to a couple of weeks ago... :P
My Father-in-law purchased a 2008 Alfa Romeo Other 8C on eBay shortly before he committed suicide because of the mortgage crisis. The car is sitting in our garage in Nigeria. Unfortunately, the keys to this car are in a safety deposit box in the United States along with the only remaining picture of my deceased mother. Regrettably, I cannot get visa to visit the United States any more and the bank will not accept a check from me for payment on the safety deposit box - I need a money order-, so I cannot get the picture of my mother which I desire very much. I do not care about the car, as I do not drive.
If someone will mail me $500 to pay the bill on the safety deposit box, I will mail them the key to the box. In return for mailing me the picture of my mother, I will let my rescuer keep the keys to the car.
Victoria's mama can't be any prettier than that Alfa 8C, though. God, I lust after that car. It may still be available as it doesn't appear it got any serious offers on eBay.
Maybe if enough people respond to my scam Victoria's sad appeal for money, I can afford one.
The Alfa 8C on eBay is real, AND it's a U.S. spec car. It stickers for about $285K according to the photo of the window sticker in the ad.
I didn't post my Nigerian scam anywhere but here, since I figured that only people who would fall for it are the kind who believe that you can buy old junked cars on Craigslist and fix them up enough to be fun to drive ....
Say the kind of group you find in 'Project Cars - Fix 'em or Fold 'em'. :P

Datsun is very rare and cool in its own way, but the paint looks suspect and the price is high.

Funny.

I think that's a pretty sharp looking car too, good use for a neglected 6.3 or something.
Cadillac wagons were often made by the same firms that built hearses. As a result, unfortunately, that's what Cadillac wagons often resembled.
to me it says: 'the car for someone who would rather rake leaves and clean the gutters instead of driving the car.'
Yeah, but they'll throw in floor mats for that....
to me it says: 'the car for someone who would rather rake leaves and clean the gutters instead of driving the car.'
It struck me as odd too. My thought was, "If you can afford a Packard, why are you doing your own yard work?"

But yeah $10k is steep for a 15 year old miled up Japanese coupe. You can probably find BMW 8 series and MB SECs of that vintage for that price.

As much as I like my old E36 328i, I think I'd tremble at the thought of a 10 year old V12 BMW?
Do I have too little faith?

It reminds me of the old joke about where
F. Scott Fitzgerald and Earnest Hemmingway are drinking together and Fitzgerald gets a little thoughtful, deep in his cups. He says to Earnest -
"You know Earnest, the rich are different from you and me".
Hemmingway replies:
"Yeah Scott. They have more money".
