When we had to closeup the campground for the winter I would put about 200 dryer sheets throughout. It worked as for the two years we were there I didn’t see a single sign a mouse entered the building.

Our “trailer” was a park model that was built like a house so maybe less chance for critters to come in than a regular travel trailer

Cold sunny morning, warming up for a drive - no issues starting, but I feel it cranked a little slow again on cold start (seemed normal when warm), maybe time to get that battery tender:

Scout certainly embodies the term "industrial"

I have not seen one of those Maximas in ages (decades?). Still had the straight 6, so pretty much a 260Z sedan! Probably pretty rare with the manual. I like it.

according to wiki, that would have been the 2.4, so a 240z.

That seems like a C&B candidate. Wonder if I could flip it. lol.

Yep. Maybe they didn't want to compete with the 280ZX, performance-wise.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
That Maxima is pretty cool. Appears to have no rear badges, so maybe a repaint (I was hoping to see the quirky dual Datsun/Nissan badging).

When I was a kid, my uncle had the preceding Datsun 810, which he told me more than once had a Z lineage.

Defintiely a cool car. Paint doesn't look fantastic though so probably a repaint. I feel like all of these came in silver that burned off in a few years. I'd imagine this price is pretty close to full retail. Maybe there is a couple grand to be made. Maybe now

The S4 is becoming a real project car. Yesterday on the way home from work I went to Costco to get some Cheap CA premium gas at $5.77/gallon :(.

On the way their the TPS sensor blew up saying I had a low tire. I sort of got a double notification so I thought something might be up beyond a leaky tire.

Costco's machines (self-use) don't let you fill up an empty tire apparently (or empty enough). So I had them fill it up at their garage and sure enough you could hear the fast leak. The guy found it, and of course it was in a irreparable area, the inner sidewall, cut like a little "c" for no particular reason at all  (bought these tires used; last time I do that).

Limped home on that air fill, and turned in my man card and called Triple A to come change me out to the spare donut frisbee Hankook tire (left rear by the way). Glad I turned in my man card, because the magic plastic tweezer tool to take off the lug nut cover decor piece was missing and nowhere to be found. The tow truck driver didn't have the right tools either. Took him longer to get those 5 plastic pieces off than it did the whole tire/wheel change.

Now I need to find a single lonely 255/35R19 Michelin PS4S in the half-life ballpark because AWD life-problems.

I dislike how VW/Audi attaches the plastic decorative lug nut covers or center caps. On the Audi the center cap takes that special tool I think you referred to to remove. The tool is located with the spare tire under the cargo cover. A pain to get to just to rotate tires. I created my own tool by shaping a close hanger to have a 'L" hook. It works fine and I keep it in my tool chest. I remove the center caps before taking it to have the tires rotated. Makes it easier on everyone and I know the center caps will not be damaged or lost.

from what you are describing, I assume a trim removal tool (hook shaped) would work too?

Has to be a very thin tweezer like removal tool to fit between wheel holes where the lug nut is.

oh I love that Red coupe. It is already pricey a day in, so I suspect it is going to be really expensive.

the white wagon is neat, but does have some needs and up there in miles. Best if that one goes to a person with the tools and experience to do their own wrenching on it.

tempting though. That car is about 10 minutes from me. And I was actually in the parking lot where he took all the pictures a week ago (did a foster dog introduction there). That could be really tempting if it was something I couldn't resist. And of course, if anyone wants to bid, happy to go look at it (I actually have to go finalize the adoption Monday, just on the other side of the river from that lot).

The wagon is essentially a project car.

On the 2-door, is that upholstery pattern OE for that era of Volvo? Seems awfully posh for a 240.

The wagon must have had a lot of money spent on it already. But really needs an experienced brick DIY person to pick it up and finish it off. Would cost a fortune to have a shop fix all the needs.

The two Fords are interesting. The '70 convertible seems overpriced to me given the condition but what do I know? The '80 Tbird is a fine example of a sad era, but the price is reasonable so might be worth a shot. The Spirit has a 6 in all likelihood but is cheap at least. Wonder what the parts situation is with later AMC cars these days.

My mother used to drive us around in the four door version of that. I can remember laying on the rear shelf or jumping up and down on the seats while mom smoked. Good times.

I always wanted a New Yorker of that era. Nothing at all good about it except the quirky style and the plush seats. Still, a few years ago you could get an early 90s example for $3k. I should have bought one and made a killing on it now.

My only experience with a New Yorker of that era was one used as a taxi to get from the airport to downtown Washington DC. Right after we got in the electrics cut out. No AC, no power windows, middle of summer. Not a fun drive…

  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,284
Dad's last car was a Dodge Dynasty which was almost identical to that New Yorker. Awful car to drive. Really soft, wallowy suspension, numb steering, always felt tight inside.

That NYer has been around for several months. I have strong doubts anyone will pay near the asking price - IMO if someone turned up with 5K or even 4500, the owner would be an idiot not to take it. But he just might be one of those "I know what I've got" types who in reality doesn't know what they've got.

Now if it was an Imperial of a similar bodystyle, with a lavish button tufted leather interior, I'd add a bit for that.

I think the 70 is overpriced too, and the Bird looks to be pretty basic spec - but for as clean as it is, no harm done, especially for a Fox fanatic.

Wasn't a 4 the base engine in a Spirit? I wish the cosmetic condition matched the claimed mileage.

All the Chrysler cars of the era were very soft. Still quite comfortable and Chrysler had some good AC back then.

If you got the 3.3 and maintained the transmission the worst of it was electrical issues, which I’m sure on lower end models wasn’t as bad as the loaded version with all digital gauges and HVAC controls.

I’ll always have a soft spot for mid 80s - early 90s Chrysler since my uncle ran a Dodge dealership. I remember riding in his dealership’s first 93 Intrepid. It was a fully loaded ES trim with the 3.5 hunter green over grey leather. Opening the hood I thought it was RWD but my uncle said, nope FWD with a longitudinal mounted engine. I was stunned.

I bought my son a 1993 Deville with the 4.9L engine. A hooptie at $1200 but the interior was nice and the room was astounding. While underpowered compared to the Northstar at least it didn’t blow the heads off and ran great until the rust killed the rest of the car.

Chilly spring day, temps in the low 40s during the day, and below freezing at night - but dry, unlike the sleet, hail, and snow flurries of yesterday. Took the old dear for a drive around the neighborhood - cranked and started fine, I bet the battery has another good year in it anyway. A guy at the local Chevron said the car is "awesome", and I got numerous approving looks. Today we have a rear quarter view, showing that while this car was made in the 60s, it debuted in 1959, and styling wise, is a part of that time:
