Might it not be better to wait until C&D or other major auto magazines (they __all__ love this car) publish the results of a major tuners' workover? Or why not check with MOPAR and see what they have? That way you've got a good chance for whatever you bolt on to really work!

As for VORTEX, the FTC has done tests on many "fuel enhancers" (airpath vanes, fuel molecule alignment magnets, etc.) and found them to be duds. The only way you're really gonna know is to put your SRT-8 on a Dyno, with and without vortex, and measure the performance differences.

hey tomzsrt8, I saw your brake comments and noticed that mine also has a deep set of two grooves in one rear brake rotor. kind of scary on a brand new car, we now have about 700 miles. no braking disturbance, they work great! I sure hope someone will make us some aftermarket ceramic pads.

    Good luck at the dealer.

I own a muffler shop and the Magnaflow performance products work very well, although oe seems to be upon inspection of the 300 C to be flawless. We wanted to change out the x pipe muffler and remove the resonators but, I felt the system was in itself extraordinary. Why? Because the undercarriage of the car is designed for maximum airflow. The spoiler on the trunk lowers the car an addional amount at high speed also. This car is 5 inches lower than the C model. The engine compartment underneath is covered with a shroud, ( oilchanges for the average joe will be a pain without a lift) and the rest of the undercarriage is also flow designed. The centerpiece of it all is the main unit which has an x pipe built in to "split" the dual exhaust. The resonators are tucked inside of the rear quarter panels and would change the resonence inside of the cabin through the trunk. This system also has a "break in" factor whereas the exhuast will eventually tune itself and reach a deeper sound. Change it only if you are prepared for excessive sound, and compromise of your performance. The computer will sense a change in back pressure and adjust the fuel mixture, timing and transmission will shutter. These cars have the German engineering that Chrysler installed. Just think of your car as being 3/4 Mercedes. You have to take into account the enviromental aspect. The smog register on your window sticker will tell you these cars put out. Next inspection although down the road 5 years or so will cause you to fail for hydrocarbons. As for the air intake system, again, the car is naturally aspirated which means it already has an efficent airflow system. Most of the parformance vehicles we change out are Mustangs and V-8 pick ups, and then it is only for the tips and sound. Silent but deadly is the SRT 8. :shades:

I have a 06 300C with 1200 miles on it. The outside temp gauge seems to be reading about 10 degrees too high. Anyone else experience same problem? What to do/how to fix? Thanks
  • wantitwantit Member Posts: 21
Just got the september issue of popular mechanics, there is a 5 page article titled
"bogus mpg gadgets" they test 7 items, fuel line magnets, vortex generators , fuel atomizers, etc. not only did they not improve performance, but one caused a fire in the engine compartment. you might want to read the article. the bottom line is they are a waste of money.

If you are looking to increase horsepower, the best current option is the mopar cold air kit for this car. You can order from mopar. According to the SRT engineers this will add another 10 - 15 hp. They are currently working on a HP throttle body but this will not be available for some time. The SRT guys also do not recommend regular K&N (although they supply mopar) or airrade etc as they are not optimized for the car the way the mopar kit is. I already have one. It is a 20 min install and every thing just plugs right in. Real easy and looks real cool in silver and blue. If you want gas mileage go buy a Jetta!
  • equinnequinn Member Posts: 17
its pretty suprising that the mopar guys dont recommend something not made by them. why would they? as far as an addittional 10 to 15 hp this car is already 425! its a screamer out of the box.

Who ever said "you can have too much of a good thing" had to do without! You can never have too too much HP!!

I have the rear dvd system in my SRT 8 that came with the car. I was wondering if there was anyway I could get the dvd to play on my navigation screen in front. Is there a way to rewire the ground or is it not possible to play it at all in front. I have had all different opinions on this.

I was wondering if anyone has the remote start installed in thier vehicle?
I am awaiting delivery, and want to know if there is a system that is installed by the dealer that just "plugs in" using existing wiring, or is it an aftermarket system installed by an outside vendor? I will never own another car without this, and now have in my current vehicles a system called the valet. This works from at least 500 to 600 feet, and also goes around corners, and through walls. this is what I need, and if the "factory system" will do this, O.K. if not I will get the valet installed after I take delivery. Would appreciate any info.
    Thanks, still wantit, and waiting.

I believe on the mopar site that sells Chrysler 300 accessories there is a remote start system that works from 800ft away. http://www.leeparts.com/300.html You can find it on this website.

Have the same problem with an '06 with 700 miles. Dealers are giving me the runaround claiming it is normal. Any luck in curing your brake squeeking? What have dealers told you?
  • easy1easy1 Member Posts: 11
Last week the dealership updated my SRT8's computer because they stated their is a factory update to prevent the stalling problem. The metal flap on my steering wheel won't stay down. THey attempted to work with it to no avail and can't figure out the problem so they are going to replace the entire steering wheel. I spoke to them yesterday about the squeaking brakes. They state Chrysler has come out with an upgrade for the brakes and rotors to prevent the problem. They should have the new rotors and brakes by Friday and will install them on my car next week.
  • magnahemimagnahemi Member Posts: 24
Has anyone changed the wheels on their SRT 8 and which company do you perfer ? I am thinking of removing the door handles and using remote openers. This car will be my second 300 and I more than likely will take it to car shows. I have plans to paint ghost flames over the black and tint the windows. Any suggestions ? :shades:
  • browzsrt8browzsrt8 Member Posts: 19
I am going to get some 22" Asinti spike series wheels eventually. This monday I am taking my SRT to a custom shop to get some work done. I am taking of the side door emblems to give it a cleaner look, and the srt emblem in the back. Then I am painting the window sills and side mirrors the same color as the car to give it a shiny clean look. I am also smoking the taillights and painting the bently grill black. I want to shave the door handles in the future but not sure yet.
  • easy1easy1 Member Posts: 11
Dealership just received a letter from Chrysler on Friday stating although they had planned on installing new larger rotors to cure the problem, this will not work. Chrysler engineers are working on a long term solution. If you have the same problem please inform local dealership so that they expedite the solution.

another delivery date has come and gone. Why can't my dealer just get me my car already. I have been waiting since January.
  • tomzsrt8tomzsrt8 Member Posts: 5
I know of many dealers in my area that have received non-comitted SRT8s and sold them on a first come, first served basis---most were selling at sticker. Prior to purchasing mine, I test drove three SRT8s. I could have bought any one of them but, I wasn't ready to buy at the time. I've talked to dealers that have received one, two, three---up to a half dozen SRT8s with no deposit/ no buyer. They were all just orders for stock. Meanwhile, some of you guys have been waiting 7 or 8 months. I don't get it. A dealer less than a mile from home sent me an email 8/23/05. They had just taken delivery of their third loaded SRT8. I could have gone down there and driven the thing home. Other dealers I spoke with are still waiting for their first. It's obvious the dealers who aren't big enough and don't have enough clout with Chrysler take a back seat to the ones that do. If I were you, I'd see about getting my deposit back and find a dealer who actually stands a chance of getting an SRT8 in the near future---a dealer who has already received at least one. Otherwise, you may be waiting alot longer. Good luck.

..sorry to hear about your delay....must be in "BX" status. Here is my story: Ordered 300 SRT8 way back in JANUARY 2005....dealer stated that he had 3 "allocated' units, these being 2005 model year cars. I placed order the first day that the Chrysler would accept orders from dealers (1-28-05). Received the Chrysler build sheet confirmation from dealer the next day. At the time I had no idea what "BX" status meant. So I thought I was good-to-go and started anticipating a delivery date sometime in "late spring" meaning May or June...called faithfully every 30 days to the Sales Manager of the Dealership (whom I have bought many cars and trucks from for over 25 years), he always check on the order to Chrysler and got back to me usually the same day. He claimed he didn't know what the problem was, etc. and that he would advise as soon as Chrysler advanced the order to production.....after mid June I really became concerned. After following this forum, and another, I began to learn alot more on the "process" of the ordering of these cars. In doing Chrysler Dealer Searches on the internet in June and July, it was very obvious that California, Michigan and New York dealers seemed to be getting units that were not "sold units" and available as "stock". By late June they began to show up at many Pennsylvania Dealers (Pittsburgh and Philadelphia) regions and in the State of Delaware, again available as "stock" units. It seemed strange that Chrysler would send cars to dealers for stock when they had so many "sold" units in the system. I decided to take a ride down to the Philadelphia region to a dealer who had one that just arrived and they had put it on E-Bay and was offering it to the highest bidder....but would not sell BELOW MSRP. Well it was encouraging just to see that they were not marking the prices up $5,000 - $10,000 like most California dealers were doing. I traveled to the dealership a few days after they had first started it on E-Bay (on August 2nd). When I walked in I did not see the car and went directly to the Sales Manager to inquire. He smiled and said that it "went out last night" to the buyer....at MSRP...He then invited me in to sit down to talk, so I explained my situation of still being in "BX" without any scheduled production date. He then stated that unless the dealership had definate allocation for the unit...HE WILL NEVER GET ANY 300SRT's (even though Chrysler will accept an order from them considered as an "unearned allocation") unless another dealer turns down their definate allocation. I stated that with all due respect, your dealership is approx. 25% the size of my local five-star Chrysler dealer nearby where I live.....he laughed and said that might be so, but their little dealership sells A TON MORE CARS then "your dealership". I said, ok, where do we go from here....he said my timing was right-on because he still has allocation for two more SRT8's and his "September" allocation for ordering must be placed by August 3. I thought he was giving me a line...UNTIL he said that he would order it for me, at MSRP, and I would not have to take it if "my" dealer can get it first. Well everything the man was saying was consistant with all of the forum chat rooms and other information that I had gathered over the past 6 months...so I placed the order. Couldn't believe that JUST TWO DAYS LATER (8-5) he called me to state the car has just entered "D" status. Then on 8-11 he again called to say that the car had moved to "D-1" status with a build date of 8-27. Well guess what....he called to confirm that the car was built on 8-27 and was SHIPPED EARLY AM TODAY (8-30-05).....estimated delivery date to dealer on 9-6...by the way I called the Chrysler 800 info line and was told my other car is still in "BX" status and that they confirmed everything the dealer had said to me on the phone...on it way!!!...he also said that he ordered his other final allocated unit (black) and it is as of now "unsold" and available and asked that if I know anybody who wants it to send them down....if your interested let me know....unit should be about 2 weeks behind mine. sorry so long of a reply....Gary.

    hey folks!
just a note that my dealer is also ordering new rotors and pads for my car at 1500 miles with severe rotor scoring. some sort of factory update. What is everyone averaging for mileage? my car is returning 15.5 to 17 mpg by the computer.
  • tomzsrt8tomzsrt8 Member Posts: 5
Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping an SRT8 secure in the event of an attempted theft? The only device I've ever felt reasonably safe with was Grant's removable-steering-wheel anti-theft system. But that was on older vehicles without airbags.
  • stevesrt8stevesrt8 Member Posts: 33
the only hope comes with lojack. they can actually find your car! all other systems are irrelevant to professionals as they will grab the car with a tow truck and just drive away! (They won't even care if your steering wheel was gone)
  • tomzsrt8tomzsrt8 Member Posts: 5
Tow trucks aside, I'm looking for something that will make the bad guys think twice about lifting my ride because it might take too much time----something visible along those lines possibly. Or, if they do get inside, something that stumps them. Lojack is fine but I want to prevent the theft from happening in the first place. I know that if they really want the car, they're gonna take it.
  • stevesrt8stevesrt8 Member Posts: 33
go see their site. lojack has a new device that can contact you up to five different ways if your car moves from where you parked it! Very cool! The deputies I work with say the best deterrent to small time thieves is a blinking red light or a tamper alert system, something visible. if its too much work they're gonna go elsewhere.

I have a question for you, are you based in california. If you bought the srt8 in phili how are you going to register it. being out of state and different requirements as per smog rules. please tell me. I am also waiting and waiting for my srt8 to arrive since January. Im in California and don't really want to pay 5,000 over msrp that these dealers are charging me.
  • srt8dreamingsrt8dreaming Member Posts: 2
yeah I saw this article on the net. This company is making a kit called the srt500 for srt8 powered vehicles, ahem charger, 300c jeep, magnum. The kit cost 9,000 dollars. But they say the car will make 500+ hp/500torque. Seems kinda interesting, a super srt8. man what possibilities. the kit comes will suspension, engine, brake mods. They have dyno footage showing the car making that power.
Im sure they are not b/sing around because they the worlds fastest viper with 1000hp. I think they offer superchargers as well for the srt8/300c. well I hope to do some of this, if I ever get my car

...hello srt8dreaming...I don't live in California....I live in Allentown, Pennsylvania...Dealerships that I mentioned are about 1 hour away towards Philadelphia... Regards, Gary

Yesterday I went to the Five Star Chrysler Dealership search and I typed in zip code 48062 and found over ten 300C SRT 8's with-in 50 miles radius of that zip code.

wondered if anybody would share their srt track experience with those of us who have not been yet? I'm wondering what to expect.
  • ford624ford624 Member Posts: 75
Does the 2005 and 2006 Chrysler 300C SRT-8's have a different suspension system than the other 2005 and 2006 Chrysler 300's?
I was wondering, since I have not seen any concerns written about the SRT-8's pulling to the right.
It seems like the pulling to the right is a consistent concern on many of the non SRT-8 300's
  • ersnlaersnla Member Posts: 8
Severe rotor scoring. Was this accompanied by squeeking when deploying the brakes? Although I don't have sever scoring, my rotors have lines on them and with only approx 1,000 miles on the car, the rotors don't have that clean new look to them like the rest of the car does.
Were there many inspections involving return visits with your dealer before they replaced the rotors?, or is this a mfg ackowleged problem for which they are automatically replacing a defective part.
My SRT8 computer tells me I'm getting 16mpg open hwy and 13 city.
  • stevesrt8stevesrt8 Member Posts: 33
yes there was squeaking (squealing). have your dealer do his research and he will find that chrysler has a new pad to fix the problem. my dealer initially said it was normal - that's the standard answer to any question, he also wanted to put 5w-20 refined oil in my baby! no repeated visits, just a bit of push on my part. I only got new rotors because of severe scoring. in my experience it is not uncommon for high performance pads to be a bit noisy and dusty. hopefully someone will offer a ceramic pad for our cars which has almost no dust, lasts a long time and is butter-smooth and quiet!
  • stevesrt8stevesrt8 Member Posts: 33
well, there are very few srt-8's on the road so it may be hard to know a lot yet. the suspensions are nearly the same if you ignore spring rates and steering knuckle placement. It also seems that we have more camber but that may just be wild tires and wheels. I do know there is very low ground clearance! mine seems to track very well and has actually been complimented on its quality of ride and quietness, two things I did not care about before purchase!
  • stevesrt8stevesrt8 Member Posts: 33
just in case you were not aware, new 06 srt-8's are listed as a ULEV class 1. that's as good as it gets and passes anybody's smog requirements. may be a bit of a hog on fuel but it's a clean machine!

My SRT8 has arrived, got the call this morning and saw it this afternoon. Bright silver everything but kicker and DVD. I ordered the car April 2, went D status June 20, D1 on July 3, Built on August 30 and delivered today. I had ordered from a smaller 5 star dealer and after 2 months got the call the order was not going to be allocated. My deposit was refunded. I contacted a larger local dealer and was able to place an order for MSRP. The dealer kept me informed at every step. The car looks great, I am very pleased with the visual quality and the dealer experience so far. I bought the extended warranty with wheel and tire hazard, just in case. I pick up the car in the morning. First up bedding the brakes then break-in over the weekend. I will post a full driving eval in about a week and possibly some initial impressions after a couple of days. I hope this helps those still waiting. I don't think I will get much sleep tonight.
  • stevesrt8stevesrt8 Member Posts: 33
congratulations on your new baby! I hope you enjoy it from the first twist of the key!
  • gtojoegtojoe Member Posts: 23
Thanks, picked it up this morning and here are my first impressions. The look is badass. I think Chrysler has made a running change to the wheels, I have heard the spokes were polished and the centers were rough cast. They are not they are painted Bright Silver and clear coated. The brake dust builds up quick but wipes off easily since the car has been preped with AutoArmour treatment including the wheels. I am very impressed with the ride. I came out of an Audi A6 turbo sport and the ride of that car was not nearly as smooth. The doors close look a vintage Mercedes, bank vault solid. The plastics have been critisized but the fit and finish is superb, The surfaces could have a nicer texture, The seats are A+, power lumbar would be nice upgrade but it is easy to find comfortable positions. The leather is thick and rich looking and the perforated suede grips well and looks great. The center console is slate and made a of a plastic/rubber texture, there is a company that makes a leather covered replacement and I plan to get it. I also plan to add the metal pedals. Accleration is excellent but I expected more thrust, with that said I have not had it above 5000rpm and I am told it really builds momentum at that point so we will see. The brakes so far are awesome, I did make an attempt to bed them on the highway but could only vary from 70 to 40 rather than down to 20mph. This car outhandles my lighter lower A6 by a mile, I have scared every passenger on every curve encountered. Paint quality and exterior finish is A1, the Bright Silver is unbelievable in the sunlight, its the right choice for me. Any questions?
  • stevesrt8stevesrt8 Member Posts: 33
one thing to be careful of... the engine/trans are so smooth that seat-of-the-pants impression is slower than reality. wait till you hit it at eighty! also, read your manual, it specifically says that full throttle acceleration is good for break in! just stay in higher gears (not first) and enjoy the compliments from friends and family. my wife doesn't want to drive anything else, says it is simply THE CAR! I personally think it is the biggest bargain I ever bought.
  • magnahemimagnahemi Member Posts: 24
The SRT 8 is 0.5 inch lower than the 300C due to new front and rear suspension knuckles. The chassis is stiffened with tuned shocks, spring rates and bushings, and larger antiroll bars front and rear. The electronic stability program has been recalibrated, to let the driver manage the handling with the throttle more and when you turn the stability program off the "residual" traction control is also less agressive, allowing somewhat more slip than in the regular 300C, which already allows more slip than is usual in the industry.
  • magnahemimagnahemi Member Posts: 24
I heard today that Chrysler is going to release an SRT 8 with a shifter, clutch and all. I just wonder if it will be a two door ? He also said the Charger will be a two door with a shifter as well. I wonder. If that is true, can you imagine ? After all this hype on this model I thought I would be done with buying another new car. Will we have to go through the same torture of trying to get one ? I'd really like to meet the people that sit around and think up the ways to get us to part with our money on a regular basis. God help us muscle heads !

i would like to know of any products available to increase horsepower for chrysler 300 srt8. I have been searching the web, but have not had much luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
  • stevesrt8stevesrt8 Member Posts: 33
wow, you need more power? mine already trips the lights at 13.08 seconds!

anyway... mopar offers parts for the car, best bang for the buck is a cold air intake at 300 bucks or so, good for a few horses. Jet Performance offers a great chip that they claim is good for about 20 ponies. Headers are available from Hennessey Performance, very expensive, but since our motors are such high revvers, they should really help peak HP.

I have also heard that completely disabling ESP system is a necessity if you want the best ET. Claiming .4 sec. quicker with no other mods!

With respect to the scoring on the rotors, which rotors were involved. Was it all around, or front, rear or limited to only certain rotors. Should there be any marks on the rotors of a relatively new car (i.e. approx 1,200 miles)?
Other than this brake issue, this car is a dream. And as you previously wrote in another posting, the car's acceleration as well as its handling at 80 mph is unreal.
With respect to oil changes, is there any issue using a Jiffy Lube or some other oil change outfit so long as I make sure they use the proper grade? I'm just thinking if you can't rely on a dealer and these oil change outfits are also unreliable, what does one do?

all 4 rotors were scored, with the rear being worse than the front. Lines were plainly visible at 900 miles despite very careful use. If you know a lube spot that will get you 0w-40 synthetic then you could use them. just keep careful records in case they are needed. My car now has a set of custom made ramps and I change my own oil!
  • gtojoegtojoe Member Posts: 23
Thanks, you're right the more I drive the car the more I appreciate its power. Most people that have ridden it can't believe how smooth this car is and how ferocious it is when you get on it. My wife is afraid to drive it but that will pass. My mother wants to drive it and she is 67! I am so happy with the car, hopefully the luster will not wear from this diamond. With that said I am interested in the performance chip and the cold air intake. I saw your comments on the exhaust. I love a roucous exhaust also but I'll save that for my 66 GTO. I would have to see an instrumented test to switch to an aftermarket exhaust. The beauty of this car is that it is pure luxury until you nail the go pedal. I wouldn't want to live with the drone or rumble of a louder exhaust day after day.

Just received a real nice scratch on my right rear wheel while parking on a curve. The scratch is on the top, on the polished chrome part. Is there a way to buff out scratches on these wheels. Is there a possibility of rust if no treatment is performed? All recommendations welcomed.
