Probably a cracked motor mount. Take it to the dealer.

As previously posted several months ago, the brakes on my SRT8 sound so bad when employed. No matter how clean the SRT8 looks, the sound of squeeling brakes destroys its image. Dealer by me continues to maintain that there is no replacement program and nothing can be done. Its a real shame as everything else surrounding this car is worthy of its accolades.

Query: Is everyone with a 300C SRT8 experiencing this same problem? After a few hundred miles your brakes start squeeling and your rotors become scored. PLEASE REPLY and indicate if your SRT8 has the same problems.

Collectively, if this is a universal problem among all SRT8's, we may be able to unify and collectively demand a remedy. PLEASE REPLY AND INDICATE IF YOUR SRT8 HAS THIS PROBLEM.

    Thanks,

My wife drives my 300C SRT8 everyday and just about every day she tells me
about the brakes squealing. The guys that changed my oil said my rotors were
scored at the 3000 mile change. I like everything else about my car. I raced a new "vet" the other day and we ran together. I wish I could have seen his face. ?How can a two ton 4door run with me?

Hello. I've had my 2006 SRT-8 since July of 2005. After about 1,000 miles the brakes began to squeak when applied, getting worse as the miles increased. When I had the car serviced at 3,200 miles, the rotors were turned. This seemed to help a little for the next 100 miles! Now, at 4,000 miles, the brakes are squeaking worse than ever. In traffic, it nearly drives me crazy and is embarrassing to say the least. I bought the car at at dealer in St. Louis, which is 180 miles from my home and not practical to run back and forth to. I am thinking of taking the car back to a smaller local Chrysler dealer and see what they can do about it. I agree that Chrysler should come up with a remedy for this $50,000 car! If you come up with a 'cure' would like to know aboutit.. Thanks, Mike

I just got my 300C SRT8 two months ago. I have only put 900 miles on it so far, but its great. It has a very cushy ride for a car with such big wheels. Its much cushier than the Caddy CTSV I test drove. I haven't noticed the brake squeal yet. But what I have noticed is that you have to take care with the throttle from a standstill to get a nice launch. I figured with all that torque and big rear tires a quick launch would be easy, but its not. If you give it 1/2 or more gas, there is a hesitation (like with an old carb) and then the power hits and the traction light goes nuts and you go nowhere. But when I just touch the pedal for a second and then once the car is rolling @ 5 mph hit the gas it takes off nicely. So my question is, can anything be done to improve the throttle response? Software or aftermarket mods? The gas pedal in my son's BMW V-8 responds to a slight breeze. The throttle is razor sharp on his car. I drove his 7 series after I got my 300 and his car actually feels quicker to 40 from a standstill even though I'm sure it isn't. The SRT rules the roost. There is no substitute for cubic inches.

Chrysler has come out with an "official" fix for the brake noise. They are replacing the brake pads. The dealership where I bought mine faxed me a copy of the letter from Chrysler. I would suggest that you contact your local dealer, tell them that you are aware of the fix and you want them to order the brake pads. Most dealerships do not know about the fix. (They can look it up on their computer.) And if they know about the fix, they may or may not have the pads in stock.

Hello.. Today I received a phone call from the service manager at the Chrysler dealer in St. Louis where I purchased my car. He informed me he had received a service bulletin from Chrysler Corp. stating that new brake pads would be made available December 15 for the SRT-8. He said Chrysler was aware of the squeaking problem and the new pads would alleviate it. He suggested I phone him a couple of weeks in advance of the pad change so that they could be obtained from Chrysler. Mike

At the SRT Track Experience in Phoenix this weekend there was a guy there that added two video jacks to his nav system, one for front video and one for back-up camera. I think he spent about a grand (not including the camera).
  • easy1easy1 Member Posts: 11
Please read my post #612. I agree with you completely if the fix does not work.

I had my brake pads replaced on November 18, 2005. So far so good.

WOW!! That's amazing! The car's so fast that it's capable of time travel?!? It's only the 15th today.

picked up the srt8 on saturday, not happy with the way the transmission shifts. seems to bang into the next gear when up shifting, and when stopping, downshifts very hard. sort of like going 30mph, and dropping shifter into low gear! I brought it back to dealer on monday, and mechanic drove it and agreed that this is not normal. car is still there, 2 days now, and no answers. just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience, as I don't recall seeing any other posts that mention anything like this. appreciate any info anyone has.
    thanks

I meant to write that they were replaced on last Friday, Nov. 11, 2005.
  • jthompjthomp Member Posts: 27
I have just over 7000 miles on mine and it downshifts ruff also. I havent taken it back to the dealer yet. I notice it most, if I come down from a high speed fairly fast. If Im just slowing down easy it doesnt seem to do it. I thought maybe it was normal.
  • jthompjthomp Member Posts: 27
My brakes squeel horribly and it is very embarrassing. I have been to the dealer twice, he said no replacement has been posted to his dealership. Im so sick of this. I paid a ton of money for a car that is squeeling like I need a brake job.
  • wantitwantit Member Posts: 21
valve body defective, dealer replaced, car is 100% now. both up/down shifting very smooth. this is more like it!!!!!

My rear brakes squeeled the moment I drove off the lot. I will take the car in for repair and not complete my customer survey until the make it right. I'll let you know how it goes...

This is some information for any one still interisted in buying a 2006 Chrysler 300 SRT8.
While checking out the Chrysler web site, I did a dealer search for Auburn Hills Michigan, zip code 48321.
    With-in 50 miles of that zip code there are 45; 2006 Chrysler 300 SRT8's.

    Hi Guys,

I've just been reading all these posts about the srt8 for the last two days. I put down a $1000 deposit yesterday for my srt8. I live in Australia and saw a 300c in Hawaii last Christmas and fell in love with it straight away. The standard V6 and V8 have just been released in November down here. The dealers don't have much info down here about the srt8 they have all told me to check out the chrysler site in the US. They say only 100 are coming to Aus, will cost about 80-90K Aussie. Some dealers say it will be available in June '06 others say end of '06. From what I have read here I might be waiting a while!
Who cares though, I think it will be worth the wait!! Apparently the Aussie versions are being built in Austria.
I hope the next 6 months to a year goes quick, because I can't wait!!!
Can anyone recommend any sites that I can go to which have srt8 forums and the like?? That would be much appreciated.

I took my SRT8 in this past week for another oil change. 8,800 miles and I had a few things for the dealer to check out. My ESP/BAS light has come on a few times on it's own. My other problem is just like everyone else, Brake squeal. The dealer pulled up the Bulletin that says they can order the brake pads starting the 15th of Dec. Although they will replace them they said that it won't reduce the brake dust. Come to find out the ESP/BAS light is coming on because the brake switch behind the pedal is broke.

Any word on the new crate motor that's a 6.4 liter that pushes 510 hp?

Test Drive: SRT on SPEED last Saturday? It was a special hour long episode that covered all the SRT cars except the SRT-4 and Magnum SRT-8. Other than those 2, it covered the Crossfire to the Viper, including the Ram SRT-10. Good show. ;)

I want to add a custom grill to my 300C SRT8 but I am concerned about loss of air flow and decreased cooling. Has anyone experienced this problem with custom grills? I am looking at a fine mesh grill to replace the stock one.
  • browzsrt8browzsrt8 Member Posts: 19
I have a custom grill on my srt there is no loss of air flow at all there is plenty of air that goes through the mesh grill.

Press the ESP button to deactivate it. The ESP light will come on. You will be able to launch withyout the traction control coming on. You will break the tires loose by just nailing it. It will hook up after some wheel spin without hesitation and you will blow away the 7 with ease. I just love this car. I have 3000 miles on mine. I have brake squeaking but no scoring. I bedded the brakes as some suggested on the way home with the car. The best feeling of acceleration with this car is getting on the highway and nailing it at 45 cross traffic into the left lane and you are doing 100 in 3 seconds or less. The engine gets on the cam after 3000rpm and does not stop until redline.
  • coolkencoolken Member Posts: 6
Thanks Joe. I gave that a try shortly after posting my comment. I have the launch sequence down nicely. Its a rocket. My car will smoke my son's 7 series, but funny enough I've raced him twice from a light and not until after the first shift or about 50 mph or so does the SRT really noticeably pull away. After that its all over. My son tells me that Motor Trend got a 5.9 0-60 for his car (its a 2001 740i sport with some software etc..) He's got even more of a lead foot than I do. We topped his car out on the highway and HOLY %$#$! But I will say it was smooth as glass and quiet too. His speedo goes to 155 but the tach kept going. We were going over 160. I guess his car has no limiter on it. I read the SRT will do 165 I think, but I'm to sane to try it, and to cautious to let him try it. I've been up to 110 or so and it was pretty smooth. Anyone out there been faster?

I'm about to buy a SRT 8. After reading a lot of the posts here, I've seen that most complaints involve squeaking brakes and that Chrysler seems to have resolved the problem. I love the car, but don't want to buy something with potential problems. I've generally heard great things, but was wondering if anyone out there would recommend against getting the SRT 8? Any response is appreciated.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Well, since you said "any response is appreciated," here's one. Don't buy anything! There isn't a car made now, then, or in the future that doesn't have the "potential" for problems. With that being said, now you just have to ask yourself, "Do I love the car enough to deal with any "potential problems" that may arise?"

Dealing with it means patiently and diligently working through it if something does arise and not proclaiming an all-out jihad against Chrysler the first time a CD skips.
  • jchandajchanda Member Posts: 4
I'll try not to proclaim all out jihad against Chrysler for a skipping CD, even though that is my way of dealing with any problem that comes my way. Also, I'll make sure I never buy anything again after reading your sensible response, but thanks for the positive advice.

What other cars are you considering. The single best thing about this car is the value. You get so much power, great brakes, nice wheels, a good look and good handling for less than $50,000. A base model german SUV costs more. It is a bit of a no brainer. The only thing that bothers me is that the interior is a bit cheap. The design is okay, its just the materials are not very impressive.

    Good luck
  • spokesspokes Member Posts: 14
RE: the cheap interior. I agree with you on the low-cost materials used in an otherwise awesome vehicle. But, you have to also consider THAT is the reason the SRT8 is so reasonably priced! Not a bad thing...... Remember the Roadrunners of past......bare bones except for the power!
  • jchandajchanda Member Posts: 4
I'm not really considering a whole lot of other cars. I drive a 2006 Infiniti M45 right now, but after driving the SRT8, there's no comparison performance wise. The Infiniti is great, but I've never been excited about it. Plus, the 300 SRT8 loaded out still costs about 10k less than my Infiniti and has the same gadgets.
The interior of the SRT is a little cheap, but still not too bad. Thanks for the responses.
  • gtojoegtojoe Member Posts: 23
I have had mine above 125 before having to slow down. I beleive 155 would be easy. It was as stable as my old Mercedes. They don't call BMW the ultimate driving machine for nothing. I don't think the 740i hit 5.9 Maybe the 750i 12 cyl. The 5 series struggles with the 8cyl to get under 6sec. I drove both the CTS and a used M5 before buying my SRT8 and I can tell you the SRT feels faster. Mine is pretty quick off the line the only thing I notice is a hesitation shifting from reverse to drive (probably built in protection)
  • jeffreywilensjeffreywilens Member Posts: 10
Except for one thing. I priced out a STR8 (which I was able to buy at sticker) and a comparably equipped M45 Sport. The M45 can be had at $1000 over invoice. Still the M45 was $52,625 while the STR8 was $47,895. Despite the nearly $5,000 difference, the best lease on the STR8 (at cost) is $854.89 (3 year/12k) and the lease at cost for the M45 is $728.

The difference, residual of 57% versus 59% and money factor of .00266 versus .00144. The lease terms on the Infiniti are vastly superior even though the car is more expensive to buy. Is the Chrysler worth $126 more a month?
  • 540dude540dude Member Posts: 38
The answer is totally subjective. I don't consider the M45 Sport and the SRT8 to be in the same class. The SRT8 is much more of a visceral hot rod while the M45 sport is more of a luxury sport sedan that competes head to head with the BMW 550i. You also can't compare the interior of the SRT8, which in my opinion is pretty minimalist while the M45 Sport's interior is much more comfortable and luxurious. But when the pedal hits the metal, the M45 Sport can't keep up with the much more powerful SRT8.

Find the "SRT Trunk Mat" and order one !! Its about $50 or $75 and well worth it !
Re the cheap interior - I agree !!
The SRT Trunk Mat turns the trunk covered in fur coated paper into something NICE like my BMW.

autotrucktoys.com might sell it , or the dealers just got it on their parts list.

Hi, I am going to my dealer to try and trade for a 300c SRT8. Could anyone tell me what kind of milage you are getting please.
  • jchandajchanda Member Posts: 4
I just got my new SRT8 a couple of weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone has installed an aftermarket exhaust system in their SRT8 yet, and if so, what brand? Also, if anyone has installed any other add ons like a chip or new air intake I'd love to hear what you think about them.
  • m382m382 Member Posts: 35
Hi jstahl, the mileage I'm getting is pretty accurate in the 17 mpg area. I installed a cold air intake in the car, and have seen negligeable gains in fuel economy.

I'm curious if anyone has driven an SRT-8 Cherokee? I wonder if the SRT team will be able to bring the Cherokee handling and feel up to the level of this great motor? Especially since its going to use 4 wheel drive to launch even harder than our 300s. The 300 is a solid base to start with. The Jeep is the traditional ladder box frame "trucky" 4x4 (it didn't even have indept. front suspension until recently). I'm sure the new car is smooth, but power has a way of exposing weaknesses in cars. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I am looking at a pre-owned X5 for my wife. Even the $75,000 X5 can't compete with the power of the Cherokee, but I had the car for a day and it really rides like a german sedan. I wonder how the Cherokee will feel?
  • s200087s200087 Member Posts: 7
The Cherokee SRT 8 is absolutely beautiful!!! Although there's not much point to it even existing. But then again....half the planets on this car have no purpose for existing. For example the Ram SRT 10,...how many people do you see towing their trailers home, or their lawnmowers or gardening equipment etc. As one writer for an automotive humorously put it "If you want to tow your boat, get the regular hemi in the jeep, but if you want to show your friends a jeep will suck gas like the exxon valdez than get the SRT8 jeep." I personally don't care about functionality haha, that's probably why I found the Lightning, SRT 10...and now the Cherokee....I think it's gorgeous. As far as how it would feel or how it would ride, I found this from its press coverage (it's a little long I know lol) "Chassis setup is aimed at balanced performance with SRT-tuned dampers, unique sway bars and specially tailored spring rates and suspension bushings. New front suspension knuckles feature a camber angle calibrated for optimum suspension performance. The ride height of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is one inch lower than the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which lowers aerodynamic drag and contributes to the vehicle’s aggressive stance. To meet or exceed handling and safety criteria, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) was specially calibrated for the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

Further contributing to its aggressive stance, the all-new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is fitted with unique forged 20-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels shod with high-performance Goodyear W-rated four-season tires with run-flat capability. Tire dimensions are 255/45/20 in the front, and a massive 285/40/20 in the rear.

With an optional hitch package available from Mopar, the all-new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds."

to amend my message above I meant "half the cars on this planet".....long day :confuse:
  • mikeguilmikeguil Member Posts: 6
I've noticed my SRT8 seems to accelerate quicker when ESP is turned off, though I have no idea what this difference would amount to in elapsed time through a quarter mile. With ESP on, the car seems to bog when coming off the line, or from a dead stop, at full throttle. I am hopeful of attending one of the SRT Track Experience sessions to find out more about this - or the best way to achieve optimum performance from the car. Does anyone else have any ideas. Thanks, Mike

What do all of you Chrysler 300C SRT8 owners think now about your car after the newness has worn off?
Are very many SRT8's driven every day?
How about going to the grocery store, or bringing the kids to school?
How many are used as the traveling and going out to dinner vehicle?
  • m382m382 Member Posts: 35
I have a daily driven SRT8 with an AEM Air Charger Kit. I still love the car, it's used for everything from getting me to work and around town. It's a family car as well as a weekend toy.
  • ragtopcragtopc Member Posts: 3
I also added an AEM Air Charger Kit and am pleased with it on my daily driver. Then had it converted to a convertible. Of course this works best without snow!! But I could not be more pleased with this car. Chrysler really got this one right. I just wished I could have found the convertible conversion guys sooner so I could have had more summer time fun with the top down.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Please say you're joking! :surprise: You actually had an SRT-8 hacked up into a convertible?? :surprise:  I hope you plan to drive it 'til the doors fall off because you've thrown the possible collectable value in the trash. Heck, even just resale value will be nowhere near what a "whole" SRT-8 will bring. Might even be less than a regular ol' 300C.

HOWEVER, the only thing that truly matters is how much joy you get out of it. ;)
  • ragtopcragtopc Member Posts: 3
You are just trying to scare me!! It actually came out quite nice and is pretty solid. But I am a nut for a convertible. But just to prove to you I am a little crazy, I had the same guys make my new Z-06 into a power retractable hardtop :surprise:
