Funny how "mistakes" seem to usually benefit the company rather than the consumer. I know there are exceptions, but I have yet to receive a Bank error in my favor except when playing Monopoly.

Oh, it happens. We've lost many (many) thousands of dollars in revenue at my employer due to stupid human mistakes that nobody caught (within a reasonable time frame). I have also caught many others that went the other way (e.g., charged a customer too much). In those cases, we always process corrections on those accounts (whether customer notices or not), but we only process corrections to errors that benefit the customers when it is caught within a reasonable timeline to do so.
Of course, the customers express great gratitude in one case, and sometimes incredible loathing in the other. However, ethics are a two-way street, and they knew the agreed cost going in (whether we charged them the right amount or not), so both parties are obliged to uphold that agreement.
As @corvette noted, though, the effort to resolve this particular error is likely not worth the payout.
