    Hi,

I have a supposed corporate discount with BMW and hoped to understand if it was truly a good deal. I would be purchasing the car in NYC and am looking for X5 35i with 36 months and 10K miles.

For the corporate offer, they have listed a $2000 rebate and a flat MF of .0020 for each model, but based on all of the numbers i see posted it seems way higher than what i should expect.

MSRP as built is $69545 with the packages I am looking for and the internet quoted price is $881/month for a lease. This assumes $3500 down and a $925 AF. The tax rate in NYC is 8.875%.

Thank you in advance for your help.

The numbers are .00134 and 56%. The corporate discount lowers the MF by .00020, so .00114 net.

Negotiate your best price, then subtract the $2000. We suggest you shoot for 7% off sticker before incentives ($62,677).

Using those prices, I get a lease payment of $775/mo before tax. We suggest you limit your out of pocket costs to just the first payment and DMV costs - add the taxes and fees into the selling price.

That quoted price does look high, assuming $3500 to cover first payment, DMV costs plus fees and taxes.

Ask the dealer what adjusted cap cost they are using to get the $881/mo quote

Looking to lease an X5 or an X6 in Florida- it all comes down to numbers for me. Is one of these vehicles better to lease than the other right now? I need 36/10, incentives or Loyalty? I own 2 BMW's right now. Thank you

So when I inquired why a dealership was quoting me a lease with a .00174 MF, the sales guy responded that "All BMW dealerships mark up the MF by 40 basis points." :) I suppose one has to look at the deal in total -- maybe if they're giving 12 percent off MSRP, an inflated money factor is OK. But if it's a standard, near 7-percent off MSRP deal with an inflated MF, that's not a deal it seems to me. Thoughts?

Also wanted to confirm that the $3k incentive was for the 40e only and not non-hybrid X5s? Thanks.

Dealers are figuring out that, to make some money on a deal, they will give either a big discount on the MSRP, or the base MF, but rarely both. You may find a dealer willing to do both, but it's becoming harder and harder.

You'd have to run the numbers both ways (big discount but marked up MF, or base MF and smaller discount) to see which results in a better payment.

Yes, the $3K lease cash is only on the 40e.

Thank you, Looks like the X6 has a better residual, so it might be a better payment-"per se", any additional lease cash or loyalty $? I will ask on X6 forum.

    Looking at X5
    MSRP $64,870
    36/10k
    MF: 0.00134 --> 0.00085 (with 7 month MSD)
    Residual: 85%
    Is this valid numbers?

Aiming at $7,000 discount from MSRP.
Is it too high or low?

I get $688/mo.+tax., so close enough.

$2500 likely includes some CAP cost reduction, though (in other words, $56,601 isn't necessarily the selling price).

Dealer responded back "cap is $56,601, there is $134 in cap reduction".. so what does this mean?

I also saw you posted the March rates.. is it accurate to say the rates have gotten worse in March vs FEb?

That means that $134 of your $2500 upfront goes towards CAP cost reduction. (meaning, the selling price is actually $56,735)

Money factor went up to .00140. All else being equal, that would raise the payment by about $5/mo.

.00140 is the base MF this month, so your dealer is marking it up the max amount allowed.

    Residual is correct.

Is $67,000 the MSRP or the negotiated price? We need both to calculate a payment.

And, what is the breakdown of the $3500 due at signing.

Seems expensive, but without all the numbers, we'd only be guessing.

This is all prior to any real negotiation. The list on tag was 70,500. Sale price was 67,395. Dealer sent me an email quote: sale price 67,395, doc fee 389, tint 389, acq fee 925, total cap 70561 less cap reduction of 3,871, e.g., 5k due at delivery... base payment 1048/month. I was thinking it would be mid to high 800s...maybe that is naive?

I'm looking at a 36 month 15k/year lease in Virginia. The dealer right now is 10.4 percent off MSRP, not counting an additional $500 discount from USAA. I'm also getting the .00140 base MF for March. So far the numbers seem to be working. Given the base MF, is it reasonable to seek additional discount on price? Or is this close to end game?

Anything over 7% off sticker is pretty good for BMW. Is there more discount available? Won't know unless you ask.

I truly wish to own a X5, but my hubby wants me to lease first, to see if I really love the car. Is it cheapest to lease for 24 mos. since the residual is higher? I should know in 2 years if I love the car. I , of course, am looking for the lowest payment, to try out the car. Thank you,

36 months will give you a much better payment.

Is it your intention to keep the car beyond the end of the lease? If so, it's probably better to buy it outright.

You may be able to find a BMW dealer willing to let you have the car overnight -would that not be long enough to know if you can live with it?

I truly wish to own a X5, but my hubby wants me to lease first, to see if I really love the car. Is it cheapest to lease for 24 mos. since the residual is higher? I should know in 2 years if I love the car. I , of course, am looking for the lowest payment, to try out the car. Thank you,

NO-I would never buy the car off a lease, most of the time I am unable to negotiate that sale price, they always say it is "standard" and cannot be negotiated-so the price is way to high to purchase at the end.

I will ask the dealer today to borrow a car overnight, they will let me bc they do have loaners and I won 2 cars from their dealership-

One last Q: They said I get a "affliate discount" bc my hubby works for a certain corporation, where do I need to make sure I see that "money"-in the CAP cost reduction???

Any sort of affiliate or supplier discount program usually means either A) a fixed price, or B) a discount from sticker. I'd check with the employee benefit website for the details.

BMW does have a tendency to inflate their residuals, making the cars expensive to purchase at the end of the lease. Which is what they want - they'd rather have you come in and lease another car with them. Residual values are fixed - the leasing banks have gotten smart and taken out insurance policies to cover any losses that may happen when the true market value of the car is lower than the residual value.

I just got a quote for a 2017 X5d xdrive. List $71070, cap cost $65070, 36m 15k, $959.87 per month, $1054.87 out of pocket. I assume 0.00140 money factor and 55% residual, is that correct?
