Yep, a "sport sedan" no less:

    image

A few other identifiable cars there, too.

    Shot is from "Moving Violations".

'68 Chevy Impala. When I see that make/model/year full size Chevy it always reminds me of the Ohio State Highway Patrol cars from back then.

As usual, no clue on the (80s ?) movie.

    Clara Peller made movies?

From that angle in profile the '68 sport sedan reminds me of the lines of a '65 Impala which is my favorite full size Chevy from the 1960's. Although the '62 looks good too.

I wonder if anyone ever figured out how to shove a real motor into one of those.

So much better without those front bumpers.

I’ve always liked the Plymouth Prowler from day one, especially in Prowler Purple. The accessory trailer trunk was neat too.

Now that's cool, it's a Prowler that goes as fast as it looks. I wonder if you could fit theViper V10 into one?

As usual, you can do anything with enough money. You'd certainly have to change the physical appearance considerably to make room, though.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

i'm sure you're right and since the appearance is the best thing about the Prowler that Hemi conversion is the logical way to go.

She was in at least one

Her and Nedra Volz are also pretty funny in it. Some nice shots of the Impala, too.

Kathleen Turner in Peggy Sue Got Married.
Ha! Got one. Maybe...I'm starting to question if that's a really young Nicolas Cage beside her.
    I'm still guessing Peggy Sue.

edit to add: 1958 Chevy Impala convertible.

Yes, that is Nic Cage driving the Chevy....

Peggy Sue, that's it, with a young Cage and excellent Kathleen Turner. She has a funny line/insult about the Impala looking better at night. I've always liked that one for the period sets - lots of car scenes. Filmed in Petaluma, I have some relations from there. Fun sentimental story too, different kind of time travel movie.

    Guesses on the other cars?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
The dark red car next to the Chevy is a "step-down" Hudson convertible (1949-55). The two-tone behind is a '59 Plymouth and behind it, I think, is a white over green '57 Chevy.

59 Chevy 4dr flattop and a 60 Chevy, maybe Biscayne, 4dr sedan. The terminal and gates looked a little better than the outside. What amazes me about the cars is that I'm not seeing a lot of tin worm.
  • omarmanomarman Member Posts: 2,702
'58 Ford Ranch Wagon next to the '60 Chevy.
'60 Ford Sunliner convertible left of the '59 Chevy.

On the right, a 1955 Pontiac. Nope, it's not wood, probably Firegold paint.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
The Poncho is by far the oldest car. Odd how every other car visible is a '58, '59 or '60.

And another Starliner to the right of the 60 Starliner to the right of the 58 Ford wagon. Maybe a 61?

59 Chevy looks dirty and neglected already, I guess that's the Chicago environment.

  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,402
Don’t think the car next to the white over green Starliner is another Starliner. Roof appears too squared. Might be a 62 Galaxie 500 XL though.
  • omarmanomarman Member Posts: 2,702
True. That '59 Chevy looks like the same shade of dreck as the terminal building.

Has US features (side markers), plus a boattail, which means pre-1970 Alfa Romeo Spider. Nice car in an unusual color.

Art Carney - One of the all time greats.
He is buried not far from my home. I've been to his gravesite more than a few times.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
Yep Harry and Tonto, another good now-obscure film with some obscure cars. And the blue 55 Chevy in the background is indeed the car he buys.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
I always thought Art Carney was pivotal to the success of Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners" personally. He was just a perfect foil in that series and that really takes good acting and comedic timing.
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,602
Art Carney was one of my favorite character actors. I have always been impressed by actors who can do both comedy and drama, and he was certainly one of them.

My co-worker lived a few houses away from his on the Connecticut south shore. She saw him many times driving around town in his white Corvette. She met him several times at the local convenience store! She said he would engage in conversation with any member of the public except on one topic, Show Business.

The other cars are easy, Beetle and a 6cyl MB Ponton, early model. Car at far left looks mid 60s GM.

    Another shot from the movie:

    image

I remember Art Carney in "The Yellow Rolls-Royce", and "St. Helens", a Mt. St. Helens-themed low budget movie I was impressed with when I was a kid, Carney played Harry Truman, and was pretty amusing.

Behind the Kingswood maybe a 73-ish Chevy Malibu Laguna.

Also appearing in 1970 was Art Carney in a TV Christmas Special. Cracked me up when they repeatedly sang "Happy Little Christmas Elves" featuring Zippity, Skippity, Hoppity, Bing, Bong and Fred!

Saw it one time. Never forgot

Blue Chevy Stepvan. Used to ride in one of them quite often since my father had one for work. and the nose of a 74ish Valiant.

Behind the stepvan is an IH stub nose. Might be a garbage truck?
