True but they'd have to go through either Turkey or Iran, two very nasty opponents.

Already in Syria.... it's a short trip through Lebanon, Jordan or Iraq.

    I agree.. not likely.

    I don't think there was a 4 door.

I thought the pictured car was a 4-dr but on closer examination it wasn't nor could I find any photos of four- door '63 Polaras. It's hard to believe they'd make a sedan that big and not even offer 4 doors.

BTW- a big-block 440 hides under that hood.

We had a 4-door '63 Polara, a hardtop at that.

    edit - if you're saying there wasn't a Polara 500 4-door, you're right.

Here's one that looks just like ours, color and all, except we had dog-dishes, but not the fancy hubcaps

As always, the 2 doors get saved much more, especially the ones with the hood scoops...

I'm pretty sure I posted a picture of an old Polara, recently... Let me find it.

Sadly, I now see it in front of the local pawn shop. Doubt he got over $500 for it.

I'll go with 1968 1750 Spider that some idiot drilled a hole in for an antenna.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Close enough. It's a '69 "roundtail Spider", often mis-named a Duetto, which looks very similar. But in 1968 Alfa added a larger 1750 cc engine and for North America, fuel injection, which this car has. Dustin Hoffman drove a genuine Duetto in "The Graduate".

I saw one of those in my town a few days ago, roundtail, glass lights, very raspy.

Nice car, getting hard to find. This one was "ok" but really neglected. No rust, however, which in itself means the car should be a shrine and the sick led to it to be healed.

    I don’t know the year, but I’ll guess it’s closer to 1963 than 1973.

'63 sounds like a good guess. A '73 Polara would be the fuselage era.

Well that's more like a fuselage era roofline than they had in '63 with the formal C-pillar.

I was wrong. No Polara badge. Pawn shop doesn’t own it. Owner is a customer who just has it parked there.

I can't tell if the red car is a 911 or 912, can you? How about those tailfins?

I'll grab the 1960 Chevy and the 1957 Dodge.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
No way to distinguish a 912 from a 911 in that particular photo angle. It is an early car, however.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,462
Ford tow truck is no older than 67.

Not sure if the Dodge is a '57, tailfins were the same for 1958.

Yup, I have a scale model of an early 911 and it looks exactly like the car in the photo as do pics I've sen of early 912s. I thought the tailpipe might be too small for a 911 but my diecast also has a tiny pipe. IIRC the 901/902 types first came to the US in 1966 so that Porsche would be the newest car by quite a bit.

It's a '57. There is no side script at the rear end of the side strip.

Not really a mystery car, but a mystery sunroof. Check out the installation on the LeMans at the left.

Really strange to have it over the rear seat! Wonder if there might be something structural roof support over the front.
  • omarmanomarman Member Posts: 2,702
Maybe had an overhead CB radio. The second to the right of that LeMans looks like a Sapporo.

Yup, it's a 1961 Porsche 356B T5 Roadster by Belgian coachbuilder D'Eterien. They are very similar to the 356A Convertible D which was basically a Speedster with a taller windshield and roll-up side glass and like the Speedster and Convertible D they're rare on ly 473 were made.

Ford Maverick, about a 70? I like the wheels and color on it.

All that car needs is some '56 Packard tail lights and a pair of side pipes. :p

Last night I saw a somewhat obscure 80s movie I enjoyed when I was younger - it has some obscure cars, too:

    image
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
    Hint - It's not a Mercury.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,402
    It’s a Meteor, guessing a 56.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,462
Yes, 1956 Meteor Rideau Crown Victoria. One may notice this one is a glasstop, a very rare car.

Another snap from the same movie - cars look the same but are different:

It's a 1972 Ford Maverick; those wheels are not OEM, they're aftermarket Tor-Q Thrust or American Racing. I like the color but the vinyl roof looks out of place on that roofline.

One on the right should be a Dodge 600.  The one on the left with the vinyl mist be a Lebaron or New Yorker.  Hard to tell but I’d say both earlier than 86.
