Can't recall what Ferris's dad drove, but the headrests seem to point to another Volvo, I think.

    EDIT: nope. Not a volvo.

Obvisously British and likely an Estate conversion by Radford or Tickford. My first thought was Jowett, then Jensen but it's not either. I saw that grille style in an episode of The Crown but couldn't ID it. :(

    A clue please?

True, most are mundane. I'd agree we should try for more interesting cars.

Yep, Audi 5000 in the US, the model plagued with user error/"unintended acceleration".

Lots of 80s iron in Ferris.  Rooney drove a K-car.  The weaving old lady a period Town Car. They were all spot on.

Kaiser hubcaps and maybe Kaiser + something on the fender. Not quite overdone enough to be a '58?

Based on the front fender, a Kaiser Manhattan.
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
Well, it's a '54 or '55 Kaiser Manhattan. I wish I could see the hood ornament better to see which year. From the little I see of it, I'll say 1954.

The green car is a Toyota Corona, from the early 60s I think. I assume it was sold in the US from new judging by the lights, but at first I thought a Tiara, although those seem to be Toyopet or Toyota and I don't know if you had them.

These models were before Toyota started to push into the UK which was in 1965/6 - our first Japanese car actually sold here was the Daihatsu Compagno from late 1964 although hardly any were sold here and only in London and south east I believe, followed by the Honda S800 although they did sell a few S600 initially I think.

That Kaiser Manhattan model had a whole afterlife in South America after the US plant shut I believe but that is presumably one of the original ones - it looks almost too good to restore - tempting to clean it and retain the patina.

Curious about Kaiser-Frazier, they shared model names. Did they have any model names besides "Manhattan" and "Vagabond"?

Yes, Kaiser in Argentina made the Kaiser Carabela from 1955 to 1962.

I remember one called "Dragon" which had a unique interior.

The only model name shared was the Manhattan. The Vagabond was Frazer.
Kaiser had the Special, Custom, Traveler, Virginian, De Luxe, Carolina, and the Golden Dragon (which sounds like a restaurant).

The grille of the '47 and '48 Kaisers is one of my all time favorites of any car for uniqueness.

Yep, sold as a Tiara here. I think they were distributed mostly on the west coast, which is the only place I have seen survivors. That one is a few hours from me.

As far as I know, we didn't get the S600 or S800 when new, but some have trickled in as private imports. We did get the N600 and Z600, and I have seen several of both in this area.

Very good, lads. The car is a '54 Kaiser Manhattan. The body is in very fine fettle aside from one ding near the left headlight. Chrome bumpers are deteriorating, headlight and tail light bezels pitted. Interior is not bad--dusty and musty but not torn up at all--a bit sun-faded. Looks like it might even run. It's all there. I think it could be revived and driven as is for a few thousand dollars. It's a manual transmission, 6 cylinder.

The Datsun 300ZX is a 1984 and it's trash. Parts car for body panels.

    You want a mystery vehicle?

I saw this old flatbed truck in the warehouse, circa late 1920s, with the most peculiar name on the radiator shell that I have never heard of:

It seems to read "Demaront" or "Demarint"---certainly DEMAR is plain and I'm pretty sure the last letter is a "T".

I can't find any name like that anywhere. The engine appears to be a Hercules, so it's an "assembled" truck, made by buying parts from many vendors. Perhaps it was just a company name they put on the shell?

    A mystery I can't solve.

    "ready to restore"
    "barn find"
    "ran when parked"
" intended to restore it, but family matters got in the way"
"should be no problem getting title and new VIN plate"

DeMartini truck, if I'm not mistaken. They built garbage trucks from the 20's to about mid 50's, I seem to recall.

there is actually a 120 on BaT right now. I was reading through the comments, and quite a bit of minutia about how to tell. Some of which was discussion about various ways they did the VINs. But also stuff like different grills, where the windshield squirters are, etc.

Any chance the 'read the year on the taillight' trick would work? Probably not, they must have used the same one for years...

If those are original black plates, I will guess ~1967 based on the sequence, as I believe they were issued alphanumerically.
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
Have a friend who is a police officer? Have the officer run the plate. Request the year only.

Oh, please, please---don't make me go through that! :'(

It seems that a '67 would start with Chassis Number 225xxx, so this one is 221xxx, suggesting it is a '66. The '66s start with 193xxx.

Heading away from the camera, in front of the Serbian Hall, I will pick off a 57 Mercury and 56 Ford 2 door wagon.

Newest car in the pic is fairly easy to spot, too.

That's a rare BMW on the right - not many of their motorcycles in the US at that time. Maybe an R68 or R69.
