I like how in the modern day view, most buildings are still intact, and that the Hap Jones motorcycle shop appears to have turned into a Volvo garage, and later is seen with a wacky paint scheme - almost always with a motorcycle out front.

I always liked the 59 Chevy by the motorcycle sign

The '59 Chevy would be the newest car and that 47/48 Buick is easily the oldest.

I’ll take the 52 Ford at left and the 55 Ford approaching.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
I always thought the 52-54 Ford was under appreciated styling wise. Very cleanly done inside and out to my eyes at least.

No, it's not badged right for a Stinger. It would have a big stripe, lower body moldings and a wing.

You mean the odd Stinger C pillar? I don't recall vents on a Stinger.

    I see what you mean:

Oh, the HOOD vents. I don't recall how those are "activated".

I'll let some others have at this, and hint there are a couple traits that set this car apart.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
OK, I will take it. This is a W112 300SE, differentiated from lower line coupes by the side body molding/chrome trim. I believe these also had 15" wheels, which this car wears. This car would have been the best of both worlds - the complex powerful M189 engine with complex air suspension. Year is difficult as they are all virtually identical, made from 1962-67 - later cars seem more common. These were the top of the line coupe until the V8 cars.

You're right of course, the W111/112 Benzes are highly sought after by collectors as they represent the top of the line at a time when Mercedes unquestionably made the best-built cars in the world. BTW, it's a '67.

Good eye bhill2, it has the side markers and wraparound trun signals that distingiush the '68
from the nearly identical '67s. Those are stamped steel wheels cleverly crafted to look like alloys. I think those are German plates.

Yep, basically a Valiant in a sporty suit. I think the V on the fender signifies a 273CID V8.

You can buy a very decent one of these in the $30,000 range--they aren't really that valuable. The cabriolets bring disproportionately more money. So yeah, buy the coupe rather than the cab, and get the same basic car at 1/5th the cost.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
A 300SE also carries only an apparent small premium over a 220SE or 250SE, likely due to the expense of maintaining the engine and suspension. A cabrio costs as much to restore but is worth 400% more when finished, almost as hard to justify restoring a coupe as it is a fintail. That being said, the coupes are one of the most elegant things you can get for the money.

I believe the original Barracuda was going to just be a top line sporty Valiant model until Mopar caught wind of the Mustang and beat it by just a tad to the market IIRC.

I wasn't nuts on the looks of the first gen Barracuda, but kind of liked the maybe a bit Euro looks of the 2nd gen. even though I don't think it was all that popular. 1970 brought the 3rd gen E-car - that one still looks great to me.

It's a Toyota Sports 800 (1965-69), a JDM only front engine RWD two-seater. A tiny number found their way to North America, most were LHD examples built-specifically for the Okinawa market where due to the large US military presence driving on the right was the rule.

They're sometimes called "Sport Publicas" because they used the mechanicals and chassis of the Toyota 700 Publica.

It is cute. I would not mind having one. assuming I fit in it (including my feet, sometimes a problem with cares designed for small people when you have big feet).

I saw a Toyota Sports 800 on Malta in about 1997, we didn't have this car here when new, but of course Malta is RHD so they could take JDM models.

I think there are a few grey import 800s here as well now..

GM never missed a chance to brand engineer a model.  They only made this Olds Custom cruiser version for 1991 and 92

    Kinda like this forgotten one.

I'd forgotten the Olds Custom Cruiser myself. The Buick Roadmaster version was far more popular.

Your pic is of a Buick Rendevous, their first of many
Crossovers, though lackluster IMO it was fairly popular in the early 2000s.

Nope, that is the Buick Ranier, a clone of the Chevrolet Blazer.

Olds Silhouette. My cousins husband worked at the GM plant where these were built (Tarrytown, NY). He now works at the Arlington, TX plant where they build Suburbans, etc.
