Having had some time on my hands lately (retirement pls some medical issues for a bit) I found myself watching daytime TV here and found a few shows we have that are car related on the Sky network

One is called Junk & Disorderly and involves two chaps (Henry Cole and Sam Loveday) dealing in auto jumble stuff - and patching up motorcycles and the odd car as well. It is more laid back that Wheeler Dealers which lost its wy some time ago in my view.

They've previously done another series called Shed & Buried where they retrieve old vehicles and such like - a sort of UK American Pickers with an auto theme.

We also have one called Bangers & Cash which is based on a classic car auctioneers in Yorkshire and shows the sort of cars they sell and follows up different buyers and sellers.

Its all real world cars - plenty of Morris Minors and the like rather than the upmarket stuff that the posh auctioneers sell.

I saw your dialogue on Canadian cars in recent posts.

Whilst I have seen references to Meteor and even Monarch from Ford in the past and also the GM makes like Acadian and Beaumont (?) did they also have a separate Mopar brand in Canada as I can't recall any references to that elsewhere.

I know that in the more distant past ie pre WW2 we had Buicks here labelled or at least made by McLaughlin-Buick but that was to get "Empire" preferential trade terms at a time when US cars would have faced tariffs.

In that shot of the RCMP checking traffic for a fugitive, if that was a US TV show the crook would be in the Ford Anglia - it's always the Brits who are playing the villains...

I remember watching that on TVwhen I was a kid, and noticing all of the Pontiacs, some really blatant product placement there. And what a final wreck for that Ventura too:



The traffic scenes are like a living museum of gigantic early 70s cars, fun to watch.

In Britain would it be the Germans? At least the crooks wouldn't outrun the rozzers in an Anglia.

Those shows sound interesting, might have to check YT for clips. I'd rather see an average enthusiast buy a Morris Minor or Princess etc than dynastic wealth buying another seven figure Ferrari.

As was mentioned, Chrysler had Fargo trucks here that were otherwise identical to Dodge models, and were sold through Chrysler-Plymouth dealers until about 1971. Then they all became Dodge trucks. Aside from that Mopar had no specific Canadian brands, but they did have specific Canadian models. Here is a good summary:

@magnette mentioned Wheeler Dealers losing its way - I agree. They are now churning out so many cars that Brewer is soliciting buyers for them on social media. Not sure if this means you get to appear on the show as the buyer. This one looks like it would be fun. Probably a tad expensive though:

This is a pic from July 1957 of a town in Nova Scotia - Yarmouth, at the southern tip of the province, featured today on The Old Motor. There has been on-and-off ferry service between Yarmouth and Maine for decades, mostly for tourists, though the cost has become controversial in recent years as tourist numbers have declined from the heyday of rubber-tire tourism of the '60s and '70s. I always used to think Yarmouth was neat as it was one of the few places in NS where you could get over-the-air US radio and TV signals back in the day. Plus it had good seafood restaurants.

What is the utility vehicle parked at the curb on the right side of the street, about halfway down? Pic expands nicely with a right-click/view:

I'd never seen those Jaguar ads before although I am surprised they would get banned here, but then again Jaguar don't advertise heavily here on TV or at least not during the programmes we watch.

I don't know who would be the villain now although it is often someone vaguely Russian or similar I suppose. Sometimes it could be an American if it is a spy type story as they always seem to have a rogue agent or something - so I suppose that is the same as all ours being double agents too.

Being so cosmopolitan pretty much everybody in London has a home audience from everywhere in Europe and most other places anyway so it would probably play well with the British in the villain role anyway.

Some years ago the prominent English footballer Gary Lineker was advertising crisps on TV and the company making the brand got taken over by an American firm - I think it was Kraft Foods.

The premise of this running series of adverts was that Lineker was always trying to steal bags of crisps from children, tricking old ladies etc because they were so good to eat etc.

The new owners didn't like how that meant their promotion was basically showing crime pays or something, but the ads were funny and carried on. The premise was really that Lineker was famous for never committing a foul on the pitch in any match - unlike some - and it was that contrast that made them so popular.I'm not sure it would have carried so well outside Europe (Linaker was famous internationally as he was the England soccer captain for years until only a few years before).

The first one I posted (that began in the car park) was the one that was banned,, for the spirited driving that happened later on the streets.

The second one with the helicopter tracking the Jag to Ben Kingsley's house was beautifully done. Tom Hiddleston was so low key (veddy British!) as he sipped his tea while leaning out the open door of the chopper.

Yup, the AC428/Frua was a Ford-powered GT intended to replace the AC/Shelby Cobra.
It was a different kind of car being a GranTurismo. The Frua bodywork gave it a strong resemblance to other Frua Designs built for Maserati, Monteverdi and others. 81 were built from 1965 to 1973 including a number of coupe versions.

The newest car identifiable in the NS scene would be the black '57 Poncho parked on the right. Two cars behind it is a two-tone Olds ('56 or '57) amd across the street a two-tone '56 Chevy. Something possibly prewar is parked on the right ahead of two MoPars. Iy's probaly the oldest.

Can't ID the "utility" on the right but I think it's a pickup with a box built onto the bed.

Tough one. I think the utility vehicle may be a ~1950 pickup (I get a strong GMC/Chevy vibe) with a canopy/box on the bed. Looks too narrow to be a panel truck/"panel delivery", and too large to be a car-based sedan delivery.

I'll grab the tiny blue car near center pic, it's a Fiat 500 or 600. Given that most others in pic are '61-'64MY, I'd guess it's a 600.

The folks at The Old Motor think this was probably taken in Willemstad, the capital of Dutch Caribbean colony Curcao which doesn't really explain the odd parking scheme or the dominance of full sized Detroit iron.

I'll call the other readily visible non-US car, the red/cream car next to the Fiat. It's either an early '60s British Ford Zephyr or a German Ford Taunus 12M. It's LHD but it looks more like
a Zephyr to me.

1957 DeSoto with the rare (?) dual headlamps at the far right, I thought most came with a 4-lamp system except for a few states.

Those look like period Dutch Antilles plates, and the signage/architecture definitely checks out. The Dutch have always liked Detroit iron, and with the US being so close, I am not surprised to see so many American cars.

Ford looks like a UK Zodiac ca, 1960, these were made in LHD and even sold in the US/Canada.

Now that you mention it, I vaguely recall seeing those here. When I think of UK Fords, I have trouble remembering they weren't all Escorts, Anglias and Cortinas.

A decade ago that parking in Dayton was angle in parking. I suspect backing out into the two lanes of speeders was an accident waiting to happen.

This was an area the city was trying to push as "trendy" even though it was bombed out, IMHO.
