Here's a link to the engine/option page of that brochure.

Looks like the base model '67 Ford XL is the 289 Challenger with automatic. The chart indicates that you could order a '67 XL with a 410 hp 427 or the 427/dual 4bbl setup with 425hp. Both with mandatory 4-speed.

automobile catalog also indicates that option available but I don't know if I'd trust that source by itself. At least it seems to confirm the brochure. But were any '67 Ford XL cars ordered like that? Hmm.

F1 Champion Jim Stewart of Scotland owned a 1967 XL/427 (those wore 7-Litre badges).

I can't find any 7 Litre emblems for the '67 but shown below are grill and fender 7 litre emblems for '66.

    I've never heard of a 7 Litre emblem on a 67 either.

I thought the 7 Litre cars were 428s.

I should have known that. I am embarrassed.

I remember looking at the 77 200SX when they were new at a small rural Datsun dealership in VA. Dad was having our very tired 71 510 wagon repaired. I don’t recall what was wrong with it but it was towed in. I still have the brochure to the 200 SX in a box with other brochures. I have a lot of brochures from the late 70s into the 90s. They are fun to look at from time to time.

Sorry - I really should look in more often but have had some issues lately and only now back towards normal again for a bit.

Jowett Javelin was designed by Gerald Palmer, and his next job after about 1948 was to move over to the Nuffield group (Morris / MG / Wolseley) and to design the Wolseley 4/44 and the related MG MagnetteZA....
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,235
That picture over at Sainsburys with the blue Dolomite in it showed one vehicle of an earlier generation, although still in production even in the mid seventies. Just above the Dolomite is a white panel van and it is a Bedford HA (first generation Vauxhall Viva equivalent).

They made them for years right up until the two subsequent Vivas had gone out of production - it was replaced by the Bedford Chevette van - in the mid seventies.

Main reason the HA van was still on sale was it was the choice of the big fleets for replacing Morris Minor vans although its main competitor would have been the Ford Escort Mk I or II van I suppose.

Our British Telecom engineers all had those HA s painted yellow and there were thousands of them once the Minor van left production in about 1970.

Also all our nationalised electricity and gas companies used them too.

    There's the magnette chime-in I was expecting.

Here's one local to me, the first Costco, Seattle, opened in 1983. As one can see, the vehicle mix is very west coast:

Gen 1 civic (probs a CVCC) on the road. An OmniRizon parked on far curb between an impala downsized and late nova. And a snazzy 1970ish Matador rump on the left next to the Malibu coupe with a nasty vinyl roof.

Pretty good eye, but the Nova is actually something pretty distant from a Nova.

There's an also obvious newest design in the pic, too, if one looks closely (date of the store opening is a hint).

Right clicking on the pic can help too, if anyone hasn't.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,721
Hey, I’m on an iPad mini. Lucky I can see anything. So I confused an MB for a nova. Actually very similar shape and taillights!

Pinto woody wagon in there too. Newest car I notice is the corolla right in front.

I see a downsized Toronado in the lot, so it is no older than a 1979.

I think the Civic is a Gen II from 1981 or later.

what is the black car two over from the light pole, next to a white late 60s chevy? Looks like a Pontiac mid size, but could it be an '83 T Bird?

That's it, left of the big white Chevy is an aero Bird, so no older than 1983. There also appears to be a dark K-Car to the right of the white Chevy, so no older than 1981. The MB W123 coupe parked on the street probably has Turbo Diesel badging, also making it 1981 or later.

I think the Honda is a first gen car too, before 1980.

Odd to see a nice (restored?) first-gen Mustang parked in the midst of all those daily drivers.

Not to mention that, looks like a damp day too, which is far from unusual here.

For new cars, I think I see 2x Mopar minivans (one in the foreground, one in front of a K-Car wagon third row left), an 84 or later Civic hatch in front of the S10, and maybe a BMW E30 sedan in that row to the right, beside a large Chevy van.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,721
Volvo brick (I assume a 240) wagon next to the two-tone Vanagon, up front is a nice wedge Celica coupe. And a Granada up by the doors behind the people walking.

I don't see the Supra but I see a 1983 Celica ST coupe parked to the right of the 1981 Rabbit making a turn.

Ok I just saw the post above spotting the wedge Celica.

2 spots right of the white Toyota pickup is a 1981 Olds Cutlass LS sedan, light exterior with dark vinyl top.
On the left of the Toyota pickup a '75ish Dodge Dart Swinger 2 door.

Toyota pickup is also 1984 or newer, and another Omnirizon beside it.

No Supra... I misspoke on the Celica. Shameful, I know.

You're on the right track, it's a 1985 BMW 635CSi/E24 sometimes known as a "Shark" in Bimmerworld. These are relatively affordable cars for someone seeking a good buy on a collector BMW

The Zephyr's main identifying features distinguishing it from the Fairmont were 4 rectangular headlights instead of just 2 of those awful large rectangular ones which did not stay around very long, and those faux-vents on the front fender sides.

Your comment about my chime-in reminded me to get batteries to revive our recently defunct doorbell while I was out this morning so that was helpful too.,,,

A 1971 Bunkie Bird! Though Bunkie was long gone from Ford by then, sort of like their situation these days, a revolving door in the C-suite.

I remember in the fall of '69 going to the local Ford dealer with my parents one evening during introduction week for the 1970 models, and really liking that Bunkie beak. That would have been right around the time that Hank the Deuce fired him.

Winner! Polarizing car and management styles for Ford. In his autobiography Iaccoca stated that at the time he wondered if he would share Knudsen's fate. Not sure if I believe that Iaccoca had such doubts then.

Here's another one from that same era. I recall seeing a PSA in which this car model was the poster boy for low speed impact legislation.

I wonder how much cronyism/nepotism exists in the stylist/designer ranks. It might explain a bit, although I suspect it is more along the lines of sycophants and copycats.

From someone who was a kid during the "brain on drugs" era, those spots were mocked to the nth degree. Memorable, but looking at the situation today, I don't know if they helped anything.

    1953 Chevrolet.

The car ahead of the 53-54 Chevy is a 49-51 Mercury, the oldest car in this photo. A couple of cars ahead is a Volkswagen w the cloth sunroof and the enlarged rear glass that makes it post 1958.
