The white 60 Buick LeSabre 4dr hardtop looks pretty sleek.

Facing us, the right hand white car - I think that's a 58 Mercury.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,628
Yep, looks like a 58 Mercury to me.

3 to the left of it looks like a 59 Caddy flat top.

Suddenly, it's 1960! In Middlebury, VT at the local Buick-Oldsmobile dealer. Expands to enormous size with a right-click.

Sorry - tried to post images and it won't let me today in Firefox either. Meanwhile you have posted pictures which do blow up well....

In the first picture is a 48 or so DeSoto just below the Chevron sign.
To the right is a 51 Ford Fordor and an Oldsmobile which I think is a 98 and a 60 model.

I posted links to pics hosted elsewhere. I can almost never post pictures here that I have on my PC.

I flipped the order of the pics shortly after I first posted them to give a more coherent L to R view.

Also in first picture are a number of Borgwards Isabellas - there are two in the line up beyond the pumps flanked by 59 Buicks
Another Isabella - this one badged as a TS - is parked in front of the showroom, and there is a Borgward estate wagon - in the parked cars to the left of the buildings EDIT - Borgward estate would be a Combi or Kombi
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,237
I think the oldest must be the DeSoto but some competition from a dark 51 Chevrolet in left hand group
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,628
Looks like they must have also had a Borgward franchise. I see a 56 Ford convertible in the back next to the tow truck. 50 Ford at the gas pump, looks like a Fordor.

Despite having Opel signs in the showroom window and a Willys Jeep sign on the pole, I could find none.

The car pointing out of the forecourt is a 58 Plymouth - a fairly plain one so I guess a Plaza - I can actually read Plaza on the rear wing on full magnification.
In the left hand rear lot there is also a 53 Chevrolet -light with a dark roof, and the picture blows up so big I can actually read the Pontiac scrip on the convertible - I think that is 53 too but had to look it up in my spotters guide to get the model name which I think is a Chieftain Deluxe
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,439
In the left pic there is a fragment of a vehicle poking out from behind the building, next to the Olds wagon. The grille says Mercury to me but I cannot be certain.

Looking at the Olds/Opel/Buick dealership, it is interesting to see ‘new’ 60 Olds not equipped with a side view mirror. They were still an option. My 62 Galaxie and mom’s 63 Olds Dynamic 88 Holiday coupe did not have a side view (door) mirror, or back up lights, windshield washers but the did have one speed electric wipers. Most of those features were still optional on most cars. My parents bought the 63 Olds in 65 when their 59 Catalina was needing repair. They found out the 63 Olds had been specially ordered by an elderly man who only drove locally and during the day. He did order factory ac but no heater, or radio. It looked nice with full wheel covers, whitewall tires, tinted glass (I think that came with the ac), white top, light green metallic body. Heat wasn’t needed in FL, lol. He sold it back to the Olds dealer as his doctor said he couldn’t drive any longer. I think the car had around 3k on it when my parents bought it. I did a quick search but didn’t find anything definitive when backup lights, side door mirrors, seatbelts were required. IIRC, 1965? No seatbelts in the Galaxie, mom had seatbelts installed only in the front in the Olds.

Jag Mk 2 would have been a new model then, if the other car was late model at the time.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,756
everything in the background seems to be from the 50's so I assume the Chevy (is that a 60?) and the Jag are new at the time.

Still can't load pictures via Firefox or Safari.... Are any of you using Firefox to post to this forum as I now can't -I haven't been able to use my preferred browser Safari for a long time, but Firefox was working until the last couple of weeks before it got flaky.

I don't use Explorer so I'm not sure what else to try.

Anyway, off the touchy topic of software and back to mystery cars. This pic was taken in NYC in 1969. The two cars facing away from the camera on the opposite curb are stumpers. Pic expands with a right-click.

I had to upload this to a remote host as Firefox would not let me load it from my PC.

I've noticed that sometimes the pictures that are supposed to open in a new window so that they can be enlarged sometimes don't.

This is one of those. Instead, I see a new window tab form at the top of my chrome browser and then DISAPPEAR. The new image instead has decided to download itself to my download folder.

I then have to click on that download, showing along the bottom of my chrome window to open the new picture.

Since you said this picture where you have it wouldn't load directly from your PC, I thought I'd see if anyone else has this right-click behavior I've described.

I just right clicked and said open in a new tab. Using Chrome.

oops. just noticed that the window that started to open, closed, and it is at the bottom. Looks like this is a JPG file. I think those (being pictures) always do that.

When I right-click on that pic using Firefox I get this:

    image

I get the default option but can reset that to make it open in a new Firefox tab. That likely is different for different browsers. I never get an automatic download though.

I lose resolution too much if I blow the picture up. The white wagon I should know. I think it is a SAAB. and the blue sedan ahead of it gives off a Rambler vibe to me.

In Chrome, if you just click on the download it opens up in a window. Though I guess that is actually not in Chrome, just whatever your computer/device decides to open it in. In any case, it comes up full screen.

This isn't blowing up an undersized picture though. The actual resolution of this particular pic is 1949x1292 which offers plenty of resolution if you open it fully.

I think you may be right on the wagon. The convertible behind it still has me stumped. My first thought was a '71 Ford but assuming this is indeed a 1969 pic, that wouldn't be possible.

As for the cars at the opposite curb, the white wagon is a Saab (95?). Behind it is a GM B-body (Lemans or Skylark?) and the blue wagon is a mid 60s GM but I can't tell what. :(

I could do better if I could enlarge a little. :(

I think the blue wagon is a Buick version.

the white convertible is tough. Tail looks like a Plymouth but the sides shot looks kinda like a Mercury.

The little wagon is indeed a Saab. Convertible gives me an Oldsmobuick vibe, too.

That pic is another where if I right click to view, it downloads instead of opening in a new tab.
