Close, but it is the 123 predecessor, the W114/115. This one is a appears to be a facelift car with small bumpers, so 1973 only, I think.

67 LTD, I think a one year only roofline.

On left a '67-ish big Ford with an odd roofline. it's parked ahead of a yellow late 60s Chevrolet.

In the Memphis Showboat pic, I also see a 67+ Ford pickup in the background. The apparent lower trim 63 Fairlane wagon seen in white is something rare today.

rambles at the bottom next to the blue bug, and Studebaker up top.

I look at this picture, and all I see is a whole bunch of door dings with those big heavy doors swinging open.

Under the "Western Equipment" sign across the street appears to be an MGA hardtop (that is, a closed car). Backed in on the impound row nearest the street, to the right of a 55-56 Mercury (Montclair?) sedan is maybe a same period Hillman Minx. I also see a couple other Brits. Newest cars appear to be 1961 models.

From what I can tell, this is roughly the same area today - few cities have changed more in the past 50-60 years than Vancouver (Seattle is up there, too).

Interesting that in the present-day shot there appear to be several fairly unattractive/cheap-looking condos along with a few old residential buildings still hanging on. Also interesting that the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel uses a BMW as its courtesy car.

My college roomie had an MG-A FHC and the top was quite a bit more rounded than the one you pointed out. it looked like an old-style diving helmet so I thin that one is a roadster with
    the top in place.

That area is right on the edge of development of downtown, I think old industrial interests have held on and kept it from going all-highrise. Regarding cheap-looking condos, welcome to Vancouver ! (and in some areas, Seattle - in both places, condos are now "affordable" housing, as detached stuff is outside the reach of most normal wage earners, and much of it is consumed by sketchy offshore speculators and capital hiders/parkers)/ Cheaply built, too, I recall legal action regarding "leaky condos" going on for many years.

The small sedan to lower left w the bashed in side could be a Standard Ten.

It kind of amuses me to see the Standard butt to butt with the '58 Olds. Its left side seems roughly lined up with the Olds' right side, and its right side is roughly at the Olds' trunk emblem.

The bashed Brit Standard - isn't that what was sold over there as a Triumph TR10 or something as well although I think it was a Standard Ten in Canada?

That two tone Hillman is a Super Minx, with the same bodywork as the Singer Vogue although I don't think they sold those over there. The early Minx third in from the corner fence is a MkIV I think.

Over the road third car from the right is a 57 Rambler Custom and there is a 58 Plymouth Custom Suburban wagon by the lamppost this side of the street
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
The Minx was somewhat popular in the USA in the late 50s. Badge-engineered versions were never sold here.

According to Wikipedia, the Triumph-badged version of the Standard Ten was sold in Canada.

Dude, believe it or not, that's an Accord, not a Civic. Hard to believe given how huge they later became.

Way in the back parked on the street facing the camera, behind an Aspen/Volare, is a Civic, 1980-83 style.

New Civic appears larger than a 25 year old Accord.

The first gen Accord was made from 1976-1981. Most were hatchbacks but a significant number of four doors were bulit. I had a 1979 Hatchback which a rustproofed when it was new (via Ziebart). It slogged thru many New England winters like the one in the photo (Burlington VT in the 80s) .

The tin worm took 12 years to start eating into it.

Parked leftmost is a Chevy Chevette, the worst car I ever drove (a rental). There's a nice Saab
900 behind it. The Swedes (Saab+Volvo) were the class of the field in Northern New England.

My '82 Accord had a rustproofing treatment added by the dealer, before I bought it.

In it's later years, the first place to rust was around the rubber plugs in the rocker panels, where they treated it.

i first got rust around the aftermarket pop-up sunroof. IIRC it was about 5-6 years old at the time. Next place to get it was around the rear hatch window some years later.

Parked on the right side of the street, facing away a little ways up, maybe a 58 Rambler, and across from it facing the camera, a 58 Ford.

60 Ford has what appears to be thinner window chrome trim, suggesting it is a 4 door hardtop ("Town Victoria") rather than a 4 door post faux hardtop.

To my US-centric eyes something about the front view of that '60 Ford looks different. Could it be a Canadian model?

Across the street a tiny Eurocar, I think a Fiat 500/600.

Rear quarter window proportions are a little different on the Fiat (600 is longer/larger). But for the DeSoto, yeah,. hard to tell at this resolution, I am pretty sure it is a 53-54 Mopar anyway.

That XK150 - has it got a Dutch front number plate?

Gaggle of Beetles near the Porsche makes me think there might be a repair shop just out of view. Gas prices look like just before the first wave of inflation.

Looks like a Dutch plate to me too, on the Jag. At that time there were a lot of private imports as the USD was strong, or maybe someone just decorated their car.
