Well that's a real Beverly Hills pic. The Mustang is a 1965 with a V8. The Sting-Ray looks like a '65. on the right looks like a Buick (Electra?) 66-67 and going out of frame on left is a Jaguar Mk.II Saloon..er..sedan.

Maserati coachwork - is it by Touring?

Yup, that's Touring coachwork. Touring was quite busy in the early 60s doing bodies for Aston-Martin and Maserati.

I'll call the Mustang a '66 because of the side scoop trim and apparent lack of spinners on the hubcaps.

Well, it can't be a '67 since the pic is from June of '66. You may well be right on the call of a Buick but my first impression was that it was a '65 Pontiac Bonneville convertible.

the mall, my generation! on the left a nice yellowish Old Omega, next to a black RX7 1st generation. And a stately Granada front and center.

interesting having the Granada there. Makes me realize how much design changed between the mid-70s and mid-80s. The Ford looks like an antique, and it was only about 10 YO in that picture. The sea of Hondas, even the Rabbit and Escort next to it, just looks so much more modern (and of course were technologically).

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,484
I think the Fox behind the Omega might be a 1981+ Granada.

Car behind the OG Granada, kind of between it and the Rabbit, to me looks like a Cressida.

Either that, or an early 5-series ('77-81)

IIRC only the higher levels of trim got spinners either in '65 or '66. As for the side trim
it differed but I think that's the trim for '65. '66 cars had three horizontal pieces in addition
to the more or less vertical one (IIRC).

It's a Typhoon. AMC used it to introduce their new 232 six. You couldn't even get a V-8 in it.

Yes -the Rambler Typhoon. Only 2520 sold, introduced mid April 1964 and all in Solar yellow and black roof. Only sold with the new six cylinder engine but a good looking car and the motor seemed to do well for them generally. I hadn't heard of this model until a chance discovery online, but there are a few left as one at least was for sale recently.

Pity they didn't sell it in Europe really. That engine was about 3.8 litres which would have been plenty for our roads..
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,335
Well, the AMC 232 6-cylinder was around for a long time and had a couple of variants later on: the 199 c.i. version that I believe originally was originally standard in the Gremlin but was discontinued after 1970, and the 258 c.i. version that came out in the early '70s and was eventually used in many different Jeep models, even long after Chrysler bought AMC. The 258 was a well-regarded engine.

Weirdly, the image won't load in the browser for me (chrome), but I can open it in a new window.

I'll pick off the 61 Impala bubbletop 2nd from left, leaving the little 'furrin job next to it for someone else.

I'm a big fan of '62 Buick converts. That one's a '62 Buick but I can't tell if it's a LeSabre, Electra or what. Rambler American convertible on left. T-bird is a 57.'

In the background parking area I see a backed-in 66 Galaxie convertible, a white 61 Galaxie sedan at right, and parked in the background, a 66 Ford wagon, likely a Country Sedan.

Gee, based on the badging, I'll say it's a Dodge Coronet.

Probably mid-60's vintage; I'm sure someone will chime in and say that due to the angle of the rear view mirror, it will be such-and-such model year.

That body style was only offered in '66 and '67. The grille proclaims it to be a '66. More noteworthy is the badge on the front fender indicating it to have a 426 Hemi under the hood.

Yup, it's got a 426 Hemi rated @425cid. My understanding is that it was essentially a racing set up that was only marginally suited for street use. B/oy did it look cool!
