3 behind the Sprite looks like a 60 Ford wagon, and I think I see a couple other 60 Fords. Newest car in the pic a 61?

1 behind the truck at front center maybe a Hillman Minx.

The car in front of the Sprite on the right looks to me like a '62 Falcon. However, something about the angle prevents me from being sure.

To the right of the tanker truck is a 59 Oldsmobile and I concur with @tmart that the car right of it is a square bird - I think behind that is a Rambler American with 59 Chevrolet following.
Ahead of the Metropolitan is a 57 Mercury

Hollywood Freeway at the Vineland Ave exit.

I looked it up on Google Maps and I think it’s now South Weddington Park.

I can find only 2 1960 Fords #2 and #6 behind the bug-eyed foreign car in the left lane of traffic.

    Where's the 3rd?

I think I see it in the lane beside the Sprite, back just a little, behind a light colored late model Chevy pickup. Possibly a 4 door HT.

Yup, it's a 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury. According to TOM, '69 was the firs year for the Sport version of the Fury.

I guess nobody else wants a shot at it. It is a Subaru Sambar. First time I heard of a Sube version of one of these.

As time moves on, the corrupt 25 year rule allows in newer and newer cars, so more and more of these will be seen. I see some kind of Delica or Suzuki Carry etc at least once a week. A very hipster kind of thing.

Peugout 604 over toward the right. and a few Volvo bricks.

left front, partial on a Nissan. I think it is a Maxima, but could be a Stanza.

    and very few PU trucks.

I remember this one, this is what street scenes from my childhood look like.

That Subaru convertible conversion is really something.

Must be 1986-87 or so, as I see a couple Hyundai Excel, and I think an aero LeBaron coupe in the background upper right..

Peugeot is a 505, and nosing in at left in the aisle I see a Mark II Jetta, Maxima lower left, another Maxima just above and to the right of the Subaru.

Wow four Buick’s so close to one another. Riviera, Century, Regal and a Skylark. Wouldn’t see that today unless they were all Enclaves.

I find it interesting how popular the downsized '78-up GM intermediates seemed to be. There is a '78/'79 Cutlass Supreme coupe parked nose-in to the Subie convertible, and it seems to have dog-dish hubcaps. I don't think I have ever seen one with those. In the next pair of rows there is an odd-looking 2-door body style parked nose to nose with the Maverick 4-door. I can't tell what it is exactly but I'm reminded of a FWD Cadillac Coupe DeVille. In rows further distant from the camera to toward the right there appear to be a couple of C-body RWD 2-doors, likely 98s or Electras.

I agree parked nose to nose with the Maverick is a Coupe DeVille or Oldsmobuick sibling (maybe one of the latter as I seem to recall the Caddy having a smaller rear quarter window with the vinyl top).

One noted few trucks in the pic, I also notice tons of 2 door cars, which outside of a few sporty models are almost extinct today.

Pretty sure the mystery coupe is a Olds 98 Coupe

If it's the one parked next to the white K-car that's definitely a 98 based on the tail lights. If it's the one farther back two down from the Caravan/Voyager, that looks more like a Coupe DeVille to me.
  • tjc78tjc78 Member Posts: 17,019

The Coupe DeVille had the opera light behind the window, the 98 had it in the pillar.

Amazing how many Oldsmobiles were on the road here (mid 80s?), and how the brand vanished just 20 years later.

    Left to right:

First line: Nissan Maxima, Subaru GL convertible (aftermarket job?), Buick Skyhawk

Second row: Hyundai Excel, Olds Cutlass Supreme, Isuzu I-Mark sedan, another Maxima that looks like a blacked out sports trim, Buick Regal, Toyota Cressida

Third row: unsure about the long one, Olds Cutlass Supreme sedan, Volvo 240, Ford Maverick, 70s Olds Cutlass, K Car, Peugeot 505, Buick Riviera, Sunbird coupe (?), unsure about the last long one

Fourth row: Subaru (thin pillars look Subaru-ish), 80s Cadillac Coupe Deville with landau top, Granada/Monarch, GM x-body looking car but I think it's a 70s Buick Century Aeroback, Olds Omega coupe?, white K car, A body Olds Cutlass coupe, Hyundai Excel hatch, another Cadillac Deville coupe, Honda Prelude, GM C body Deville or Electra

    MK2 Jetta in the aisle

Fifth row: Chevy Monza, RWD GM x body Nova (?), Olds Cutlass Ciera, Volvo 240, Olds Cutlass coupe, Dodge Diplomat, K car, Olds 98 or Buick Electra coupe, Citation 2 door hatch, 80s Buick Century, MK1 Golf, another 80s Buick Century, unsure about the last one close to the van.

I think it is a FWD Coupe Deville. Looks like early 80s ones had larger back windows.

Back then 2 door cars could still seat 6 lol. I wonder if they were a tad cheaper than sedans, and maybe those with kids buying them still wanted to feel young by driving a coupe?

In the '70s, domestic sedans were widely seen as extremely lame. Coupes only. :p

    Wow, most excellent spotting skills!

I'll conjecture that the first car in the third row is a '75 Mercury Cougar, ad the last is a '74 or '75 Impala sport coupe.

I went out locally just now and found a 1964 Jag Mk X - in good condition - and on someone's drive a Vauxhall Viva HB two door which was mildly customised.

Last month though I found something even rarer here - a Moskvitch 412 which the owner has imported from Russia - (the Russian plates were on the parcel shelf). It was in the local garage and the chap there said this guy had driven it back from the motherland through Poland etc and the only problem he had was in Hamburg where an exhaust pipe bracket had failed..
