back in my college beater days I looked at a cool silver Monza hatchback. V8, stickshift. Was like a spaceship compared to the Hornet or Gremlin I had at the time. Took it to our local garage for an inspection(family friend). He gave it an OK report but said don't bring it to him for service because of how much of a nightmare that was. I think just the back plugs were blocked, and at minimum the engine had to be jacked up to change them. And there were no 120k iridium plugs in those days!

I'll chime in with the '71 Dodge Polara 4-door hardtop in '70s Mopar metallic green.

This is what you'll see if you turn around. Lots of Texas towns have neat town squares:

    Hopefully.. Dallas, Waco and Houston.

We visited San Antonio and Austin once, in the last week of March. It was almost perfect.

Might that be a '66 Ford Galaxie to the right of the arch?

Foreground a BMW E3, as it is USDM likely 3.0S or Bavaria.

To quote a song from my youth: "put back the doubleknit reversible slacks".

In California nobody picked off the yellow Challenger or the big Lincoln at left.

Seattle, date at lower right, zooms well:

  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,321
I think the parking checker is piloting a Cushman Truckster.

The lift in the garage is being seriously tested by the ‘60 Lincoln..

1956 Chevrolett at the meter, probably a Biscayne or 210. Fastback coupe across the street looks lke an Alfa GT Sprint.

    Washington plate on the Chevy.

Anyone want to weigh in on the gray coupe on the left closest to the garage? On first look I thought it was mid-50s Rambler (or Rambler American). But the roof is wrong and the B-pillar is straight.

Since I'm here, my obsessive personality requires that I mention that in 56 the low-line Chevy was named 150. Biscayne assumed it's exalted rank as the bottom rung Chevy in 59 (after a stint as next to bottom in 58).

    .

It looks about the right size for a contemporary Alfa Giulietta ?(a rare bird but not nnkown in the USA).
The shape of the wheel openings is wrong. Isn't that a '55 Chevy hiding behoind the Cushman?

I can't find an Alfa with that combination of wheel well openings and rear window slope. A mystery to me.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
Mystery car near the garage appears to be a Borgward Isabella (two door sedan style, not the hardtop)
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,766
I thought Borgward too, but couldn't find and with the C pillar area like that.

The rear side window appears to be pivoted open, which may kind of distort some detail. In looking at the car, it appears to be an earlier Isabella, 1955-56 ish, like this:

  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
Yep, and you can see the drop in the side trim right in front of the tail light.
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,602
You all are great; I think you solved it. It makes me crazy when I can't identify a car that was sold in this country. It looks like I am in good company.

On the left, a red 64 cutlass that's either jacked up in the back or slamming on the brakes.
White Rambler Ambassador to the right of it.

Actually a ‘71. That was the only year of that generation that has MUSTANG spelled out on the trunklid instead of a script emblem.

FWIW (not much) the Rambler is a Classic.

The Rambler has vertical taillights, so it's an Ambassador.

Indeed! Parked next to a Citroen DS or ID Goddess. Also I see a couple of Dauphines, a couple of 2CVs, what looks like a Jag Mark II sedan, a Peugeot 403, and some undistinguished Benz sedan. ;)
