interesting spats that don't seem to fit well at all. That was a styling trend I never really understood.

I don't know when they started making Suburbans but that one is 1957 MY. It has the boxy shape that characterizes all 'Burbans with 1950s styling elements including fender skirts, chrome trim, whitewalls and wraparound glass. Too bad they couldn't put tail fins on it. B)

That thing is a kind of a Frankenstein. I'd swear that those hubcaps (spinners, yet) have Cadillac centers and the emblem on the fender skirt looks like it is off about a 56 Ford.

White Volvo 140. 2 ahead of the Volvo looks like a Rambler American.

Next to the Volvo is a 2 tone seville (the Noville model)

I think because her dad was in the "industry" when she was a kid and was taken to all the haunts the stars frequented at the time. I gotta believe she draws some income from the work.

She was a guest on "Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles" this past season, as one of the realtors was listing a home owned by a band leader from the 50's and 60's, and Alison knew about this history of the house.

The Hollywood celebrity community tended to be pretty closely-knit back 30-60 years ago. A very interesting book I read not long ago was called "Sunday Nights at Seven" which was a mix of an unpublished biography of Jack Benny that he had commissioned not long before he died along with some chapters written by his daughter Joan Benny about growing up during his heyday. The stories about the people who visited them regularly or vice-versa, those who attended the parties at their house, their interactions with the equally famous neighbors, the things they did as a family, etc, were really interesting.

on the left, a 2 door Audi (100?) behind a jacked up 69 Firebird and a Datsun B210 hatch.

up the road a gen 1 Capri with a vinyl top. and I think coming toward it is the nose of a 140 Volvo.

With those tail lights I think that's a '69 Camaro. A 65/66 Mustang further forward, in front of the Pinto wagon and the Nova. Is that a '72 Gran Torino front left?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,437
oops. you are right, it is a Camaro. top of that row, an IH travelall.

behind the Audi, is that a 65ish Malibu 2 door?

The car that is trotting over Rotterdam appears be a Kaiser - maybe a Manhattan I think.

They did have a long afterlife in Brazil later with IKA as well

    Yup,
Kaisers were built in Rotterdam and that subsidiary of KaiseR, NEKAF (Nederlanse Kaiser-Frazer) also built Jeeps.

Chrysler bought the Rotterdam plant in the late 1950s and used it to build some of their European cars and then in the ’60s transitioned to building variations of their US vehicles there.

I wonder if the surprising amount of Valiants/Darts seen in old Swedish street scene photos were actually made in the Rotterdam plant.

I learned something. Apparently the cars had a pretty solid following, more than I imagined.

Every now and then in a random photo in France or something, a Dart/Valiant will be spotted - all of that explains it.

In Istanbul, Turkey there was a Chrysler plant with the local name of ASKAM that used to market trucks under both the Fargo and De Soto brands until about 1978

They also assembled some Dodge cars as well as European Chrysler products - the latter were from the Spanish Simca plant I think

This is a Fargo but there was a DeSoto badged model too

Oddly enough (or perhaps not so much when you think about it) those Fargo and DeSoto trucks built in Turkey bear no resemblance to anything Chrysler built in North America. The ones they built here before leaving the business entirely looked like this:

It's the Lancia version of the Chrysler 300 ...

Speaking of which, my wife and I found a show on Netflix that captured our attention ... it's called Pine Gap, and it's set at the intelligence gathering site in the Australian outback. One of the characters drives a RHD 300, which is odd to see.

The Argentinian green over cream IKA car which I posted was a described on the site that posted it as a 1960 IKA Bergantin.

The origin of the body bore no relation anything from theKaiser or even Jeep range although that poster showing their range in the 50's includes a Renault Dauphine

Renault - outside Europe in most cases - also distributed Alfa Romeo in some areas and the car which I posted has the body shell of an Alfa Romeo 1900 of early fifties vintage.
