Interesting story about that Buick, GM wanted the focal point on that model to be the wheels, even painting the areas near them white and eliminating the car's portholes.
The '53 Skylark was a special edition designed for limited sales to"elite" buyers each division had one, Chevy's was the Corvette, Olds had the Starfire, Caddy's was the ElDorado. I can't remember the Pontiac.
Pontiac didn't have one. The Corvette really wasn't in the same category since it wasn't begun as a special edition but as a regular production offering.
I think they get overlooked just due to the sheer number of vehicles in the pic, but there are a bunch of imports. Parked directly across from the IH are a pair nose to tail, the first might be a VW Type 3 fastback or perhaps something else, and directly behind it is a little hatchback econobox I can't ID. Next to the IH appears to be an early Rabbit, and 4 to the left of it is a Datsun wagon, probably a 2nd-gen 510.
I think it’s real wood. Other pics show the veneer with raised areas along the grain.
On second thought, it looks like bubbles under the ‘veneer’ on the tailgate, and the thick parts look like some of the bolts were over tightened, bending in the metal at those locations. Probably fake wood.
Ah yes, my mistake. Bad on me for not checking the daily Hemmings page. I abandoned that site some time ago. It's been so long since I visited that I just returned to log in and they no longer would accept my password. They now require a 12-character password with the usual permutations and combinations of letters, numbers and special characters. 12 characters! I've never seen that before. They just keep shooting themselves in the foot.

The latest password for the company laptop requires 16 characters..

I hate that. Now many sites won't accept # as a special character. So I've had to start using $. Soon they'll ban that. Having all sorts of password variations makes it hard without my little blue book to look up the latest if I can't remember. Most I remember, but...
Also #ab348 When I renewed Hemmings Classic Car, they do automatic renewal--just like Sirius XM, except they really emphasize the auto renewal will occur and to make sure you know you'll get an email that's it's renewing. BUT you can cancel that "feature" by calling or doing something.
I went to the Frankfurt Motor show in about 2007 and again in 2009 and at one of them I got into Hummer H2.
The salesman was doing his best but the thing was not in any way my ideal transport particularly given I told him I lived in London (it had no LHD)
It was not much bigger than a Volvo 200 estate in the back and the legroom was pretty restricted as well.
It was also difficult to see out of and the fittings were basic considering the price they were aiming it for
They did start marketing the H2 in the UK at about that time and a few showed up - you could aways see them as they were the ones who parked with the commercial vehicles and couldn't fit in our car parks.
They do live on as stretched limos - typically carrying drunken hen night (bachelorette) party goers to night-clubs I suppose
I remember there were howls of disapproval about the H2 when launched - too big and heavy, too brash - launching before a massive economic crisis probably didn't help image either, kind of the poster child for the subprime bubble. Almost 20 years later, everything is big and heavy.
