The front Honda may be an S90 like the one I rode in high school. Wish the picture was clearer, the other Honda looks like a bigger one, likely a twin, but can't tell what model.

60 Fords are so normal here, they blend into the background!

Point taken. How about the 63 Ford slant back with rear wheel spats? That's, uh, imaginative.

I think the car on the left is a Peugeot 403 cabriolet w removable hardtop. Wreck on tyop of pile in center could be a Fiat 124 sedan.

I'm trying to figure out if the car in the backgound on the right, you can see the roof peeking out just beyond the BMW in the foreground.
It has a domestic wagon look to me.

    Good luck with that!

I was going to say there was a Lada on top of the pile until I saw the date was 1974. That would make it a Fiat 124 sedan, which sounds about right. The Soviets bought the design and I believe a lot of the tooling from Fiat to go into the car business. Unfortunately they picked the wrong car.

    DB4 and DB5 look similar.

Back in Germany I think I see the wagon explorer mentions - I almost can imagine there being a Rambler Cross Country in that, but there's so much low resolution clutter that it's hard to say. Doorless/frontless VW notchback beside that, There is a 4 cyl MB Ponton in front of the pile with the Fiat on top, in the pile with a luggage rack looks like a Volvo Duett and a DKW 3=6 type model beside it. Shame about the Peugeot, those are pretty cars.

Back again in Prince Rupert 1979, another one where the cars look small but zoom surprisingly well, many can be identified here:

green Corolla followed by a bash bumper Maverick. The rams on that car did it no favors. And a 58 Chevy terrorizing a little red car.

    Black Ford Rancero.

and in the alley, looks like a white Porsche 914 pulling in behind a green TR6 Triumph.

I remember when the Feds proposed the 5 mph bumper standard; Ford endorsed it. I was hoping that their engineers had a trick up their sleeve to make the bumpers look attractive. Boy was I wrong; Ford didn't even make a token attempt to integrate the bumpers- they just slapped a piece of guardrail on each end and called it a day.

I believe those 5 mph were required not to have damage after controlled impact. That isn't the case today.

Yeah, they were all pretty bad but for whatever reason, Ford seemed to have the worst, most protruding ones. I remember our '74 Maverick had the license plate mount in the rear bumper and the factory bracket for it protruded a couple of inches below the bumper itself. Whenever you'd pull into a steep driveway the bottom of the bracket would make contact with the road surface and bend the license plate. Ooops.

in Karlsruhe isn't this a VW type 3 Notchback?

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 57,974
    Yep that's a Notchback.

On the bumper subject, MB did it to the point where it seems like they were kind of making a parody.

    USDM bumper:

    Euro bumper:

And it was like this for all models, "park bench bumpers" as some nickname them.

Pretty diverse assortment for the location. I believe I see another early Audi 5000, parked across the street from the 914.

In the alley where the 914 is presumably backing out, a Country Squire and a Fiat 124 convertible(?).

54 Ford, Edsel, a pretty blue 60 Ford Sunliner. Chevy wagon.

Now we go just a little north to Granville and W 12th in Vancouver, 1974 - zooms fine and a lot can be picked out, some a little obscure:

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 52,263
MGB, barge Pontiac (Granville?) and a BMW Bavaria on the far curb. Hornet 2 door heading away from the camera. In front of what looks like an English Ford wagon.

In Vancouver the car parked to the right of the Cortina Estate is a Humber - probably a Hawk - circa 1960-62
