Not enough power to redline, even with the clutch pushed in... A co-worker of mine had one... When I drove it, I just planted the accelerator to the floor, and left it there.. even while shifting..
Bulletproof little cars, but seriously weak engine....
That 210 is the type of car my wife learned to drive stick with! Former rental car, was one of two they had on the lot at the time. After the transaction was finished, my wife's step-father said "See you at home!" and left.
Wife was intimately familiar with 3 pedals within the next 15 minutes.
I had forgotten that they were RWD .. her's musta been fun in Cheyenne in the winter!
IIRC, it got totalled, and she traded it in with the insurance check for a brand new '86 Ford Tempo.
A lot of small cars were RWD then... Celicas, Corollas, most Nissans.. I think only the F10 and the later 310 were FWD.. Of course, Hondas and VWs were FWD, but most cars were still RWD...
Well, growing up in Southern California as I did, which wheels propelled the vehicle just wasn't as important an issue as it is in places that see winter weather.
Now that I think of it, most of the cars my folks drove for the longest time were RWD:
'67 VW Squareback '73 Toyota Corona '72 MB 220D '84 Toyota Celica
It wasn't until they bought a used '91 Camry (in '93 or '94) that they went FWD.
I, OTOH, started with FWD right out of college .. an '85 Honda Accord LX hatchback.
I remember the F10! Gawd, what a homely beast that was .. being an LA Dodger fan for most of my childhood, I remember when the F10 was used as the "bullpen" cars that brought in relief pitchers druing the games. Datsun/Nissan was a big sponsor of the Dodgers at the time.
If you got out and pushed it was ... well, it was still slow. )
michael: funny thing is I taught my wife to drive stick on that exact car! Back then we were just dating.
My strategy was let her be designated driver. If I'd had a few drinks I'd relax more (and so would she), so she actually found it easier to learn that way. The clutch slipped so much it was easy to learn on. Sold it with the clutch slipping and the new owner replaced it shortly after (I'd suggested that).
That "Sunny Excellent" had a funny name, did they sell a Sunny Good and a Sunny Great? Rear styling actually resembles some newer sports cars!
Next to a Gremlin that F10 wouldn't seem so bad.
A buddy in high school had a B210, you just could not kill that thing.
It's a first gen 1979 Porsche 930Turbo. When it was introduced in 1976 the Porsche Turbo electrified the car world with it's performance. 930s are sometimes called 911 Turbos but Porschephiles like to refer to the internal code number 930 used by the factory engineers,
That's exactly what my dad has, except it has the long bed on it and is orange w/ a white roof and dog dish hubcaps.
NB: he should be getting it from the restoration shop next week, he says. Has been in since last October getting pretty much everything redone:
rust removed new glass all around new rubber seals all around new paint job spray in bedliner added
Guess the $5-6K he spent on the restore is cheaper than the $15-20K it would cost for a new one.
EDIT: He bought his new in 1970 for $3500 ... 350 with a 2-bbl carb, 1/2 ton. Basic work truck. Mom told him it would be his last pickup, and I guess he took her at her word. Has had an engine rebuild at about 110K (12-13 years ago, IIRC). I think he puts on maybe 5-7K a year, so I'm guessing it's got maybe 175-200K on the chassis and probably 60K on the rebuilt engine. He added some sort of custom exhaust not too long after buying it and you could hear him coming down the street. If he ever got a new truck, I don't think anyone would recognize him.
It was an Opel prototype that never went into production by Opel, and so the founder Erich Bitter bought the design, and badged it under his name. It used a GM 5.4L V8.

I wouldn't mind an old lead-sled big convertible to haul the family around.

Nope P5B, ca. 1967, one of the last of the P5 line that was a mainstaiy of upper middle class cars in Britain for a decade (think British Buick).
