never acquired the "supercar" cachet of its counterparts.

that one is the Subaru SVX......and I actually like it. For some reason that car just clicked with me. I always liked it and I'm not even a 4WD/AWD fan. Just liked that sucker for some reason. I still occasionally see one around town.

Oh, as far as the "supercar" comment, well it was pretty heavy and not near as quick (IIRC) as say a TT Supra and the like.

not sure of the year - early to mid 90s I think
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
off the top of my head, I want to say they made those from about 1992 to 1996.
  • davem2001davem2001 Member Posts: 557
Yeah, from what I remember, it was a little down on power and heavier than a Supra or a 300ZX, etc.. of the same era... It was more of a "grand tourer" than a sports car.

Not true. The SVX used a 3.3 H-6, and is not in any way related to the current 3.0 H-6 Subie now uses.

Ok - you're more of the Subie expert than me... I always thought they were basically the same engine.

actually saw one at a light yesterday.

I drove one when the first came out (my neighbor worked for SOA and had it for a test). At the time, it was about the quickest thing I had driven in ages. Of course, my own cars were a Nissan PU and a Mazda 323, so maybe not a good frame of reference.

There's a guy down the street from me who owns one, and a WRX too. I also saw one yesterday.

Honda Fit according to the nameplate on the front, but they're basically the same car.

    Snow Vehicle Xtraodinaire.

Yeah, that was a GT, but even more so, it was a GT for the snow belt.

C&D did a test purely in the snow and it basically won every single category they tested.

Not too many professors in New England had $33,000 lying around back then, so it sold in low volumes.

Well, talk about a small niche - a sports car for snowy weather! No wonder it didn't sell too well. I always thought it was pretty cool. It seemed really futuristic.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670

  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
you da man ... 3 for 3! I didn't think they would be too hard, but sheesh!

The Scorpio was the last "large" Ford for the European market, IIRC. With its looks, I can see why.

Guess I need to hunt for some more obscure models....

    Right make (Fiat), wrong model.

    And the 4x4?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
    1st car- Fiat Panda

    2nd - No idea

3rd - Looks like a Southeast Asian G-wagen knock off
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
1 - spot on, old man!

2 - aha! I might have found a tough one!

    3 - close, geography wise
  • davem2001davem2001 Member Posts: 557
Sort of funny - they're not content to just rip off the MB G-wagen, they also have to rip off Jeep for the grille, too!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That 2nd one looks just like my mom's Fiat Palio in profile, I wonder if they just use a different name in Europe for it? Is it the Cinquecento?

  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
Well, I suspect the heritage of car #2 can be traced to Europe, but that is not where it is manufactured....
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
The SUV is a Mahindra Bolero, an SUV manufactured in India using Jeep components IIRC.

    1163 is a Tata Indica
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Rented one of these in India. The car is big on the outside, and big on the inside, and seats six. It's still being built today, and is used mostly as taxis and cop cars. Sounds kind of like the Crown Victoria, huh?

HINT - one word answer will do

The white car is a Hindustan (Ambassador)...IIRC based on a Morris Oxford c. 1955
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Nice job fintail! Yes, a 50 year old design still being made today, and it still sells well.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
, a 50 year old design still being made today, and it still sells well.

If Hundustan didn't have a virtual monopoly how well would the Ambassador/Oxford sell? ;)
