  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
Negative: you got it ... '66 Opel Rekord

Fintail: yep, the new car from Erich Bitter ... care to guess what GM vehicle served as the base?
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516

Was it the Holden Monaro, the same car that the GTO is based on?

The red car is a Fiat-based Lada, I think the model was 1500, later sold as the Signet

The Bitter has to have a Monaro-GTO platform
  • michaellnomichaellno Member Posts: 4,120
The new Bitter is in fact based on the Holden Monaro, which is the donor car for the Pontiac GTO.

Personally, I find the lines of the Bitter to be better (ain't alliteration fun!), but I'm sure there is a premium for his coachwork.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Samara I think.

They sold a car like that and also the Lada Niva in Brazil for a while. Until customers wised up - they were junk.

I remember you could buy a new one for something like $2 grand with the exchange rates at the time, it was crazy.

Weren't there other East European incarnations of the Fiat 124? The Polish FSO comes to mind.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Wish they brought these to the States. A real competitor to the H3, Pathfinder, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner.

  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
FSO did produce a car like that the 124 up until the late 80's. My parents actually owned one when we lived in Poland. Did you know in the FSO version it actually had 4 wheel disc brakes? Not sure why cause you could never get it up to speed to require such stopiing power.

Dang I thought that one would last longer  MT4s are getting a mazing prices these days. For those who don't know the Maserati brothers started OSCA after losing financial control of the firm that carries their name, OSCA built many successful racing and formula cars in the 50s and just a few Gran Turismos like the MT4.

    Gorgeous ain't it.

    Silver Seraph
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
It took some research. It just grabbed me as a great looking older car. Keep them coming.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I think it is a 2002 Silver Seraph....

Anyone going to guess post #1244???
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup, it's a Seraph, the last pre-BMW Rolls Royce and IMO a lot better looking than the boxy Phantom.

Can't help with 1244 Nav, all SUVs look alike to me. :P

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Well at least some can see it. Sorry about that but you are right Fin. From what I can see the "Banana Bird", as we called it has become extremely collectible.
'61s are pulling over $40k and you don't wanna know what a Banana Bird with the tonneau and wires fetches.

Yesh those Sport Roadsters go for nutty money. Fairly pretty car though, a good pair for a 61 Continental

Mitsu Expo LRV, IIRC. Forerunner to the "crossover" fad that is now gripping the car buying public.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
You're right....almost. The Expo LRV is the name for the previous generation, now it's called the Mitsubishi Space Wagon. But, good job nonetheless.

We might have a better shot if it wasn't such a crappy picture!

I'll take a shot and say it looks Vignale or Touring bodied. Perhaps a variant of the Fiat 8V ca. 1955. The small fins in the rear are similar to some Ferraris of the period.

Shape looks familiar....maybe some kind of Ferrari?

Anyway, IMO I think it comes from an Italian manufacturer.

A '70? What was the actual model name, 275GTB?

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
Yep it's a Daytona, also known as a 365GT4 or GTS4 I think. Those cars are the ones that really shot up in the market craze of the late 80s, and are now worth less now than then.

The Spyder version of the car is what they had on Miami Vice...a fake, of course.

The 275GTB was the 60s car on a completely different plane of value

    image
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
What's so crappy about the picture? Looks fine to me....

Actually not too bad a guess, my compliments...you are in the ballpark but wrong coachbuilder. It's a more common builder, although the car itself is quite uncommon.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Just so we have it straight, the car we know as the Daytona goes by 365GTB/4 in Ferrari lingo which is confusing because the first Boxer Berlinettas were called 365GT/4 BBs. They were completely different having a Mid-mounted Flat 12 ionstead of a V12 up front.

    image

The Daytona was a '70 with the Euro Spec "glassfront" h/ls rather than the later US spec flip-ups. I'm not sure there is that much difference in value between a Daytona and a 275 GTB/4 nowadays Fintail. Perhaps Shifty will tell us when he reveals the secret of his mystery car. :confuse:

Is it another of the Osca's built by the Maserati Boys?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
No it's a Fiat, he got that part right first time.

Actually I got to thinking I might not be playing by the rules....I think that due to attrition over the years, this car is the only known example.

If you look REAL close, you will see the vague outline or memoey (grille, mostly) of a 50s/60s American car, which will then give you the last clue in the puzzle.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Well I guess you're within the rules if this was the last survivor of several but I'm still stumped. Is it an Exner design (noting the tailfins)?

I can't see any of the grillework on my monitor.

Either an 840 or an 850 coupe from the early 90s. I saw one on the road here last week.
