"I think one of the Key differences with the 103 is the front Suicide doors"

Only the French would try that. Could you even open both the front and rear doors fully at the same time?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
It's a '58 Fiat 1100 (I guess you didn't catch the clue in my header).

My father-in-law got one while he was stationed in France because it was a little better on gas than his Oldsmobile.

    I don't know what a Fiat 1100-103 is.

Not sure but I already want one.

Looks like there's no top? :confuse:

Reminds me a DKW Enzmann 506, but that is definitely a different car - but similar in concept. No doors for one thing...

But this one is RHD while the Enzmann was LHD.

    M3 sedan.

I don't know if it works as it is a bit more conventional.

Maybe they should have figured out how to do the carbon fiber roof for the sedan too.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 266,778
Hopefully, that front-end treatment will bleed over the current 3-series sedan.. more of the coupe look.

Something else interesting: Only the left hand port on the hood is functional. The one on the right is just there for visual balance. I think it would have been cooler to just have the one on the left.. :)

What's this about "visual balance", it's impossible to see both sides at once? :confuse:

what's the gizmo on the steering wheel?

Not sure, I think it controls the turn signals.

Evidently, not impossible... I see both of them in that picture.. :surprise:

The ports on top of the hood, on either side of the engine bulge... I'm pretty sure they are visible from the front, as well..

Maybe you thought I meant the gills on the fender?

That thar is an Austin-Healey Mark I with the optional adjustable steering wheel!
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
That is like the Range Rover Sport then. Only the passenger side vent is functional as an air intake for the engine. The driver side vent is for looks only.

The LR3 has only one functional vent on the passenger side.

Does the thingie on the horn button have anything to do with
    adjusting the wheel?

    1961 Cadillac
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,035
Anton Schwarpskoff Jumbo Jet, circa 1971. Oh, wait, you mean the car? :P (and yeah, that guess was way off on the coaster, too!)

That Caddy looks too clean to be a '59, so I'm guessing a '60 DeVille?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Right Andre, it's a '60 Cadillac but not a DeVille, an Eldorado Biarritz. I don't think DVs had the chrome on the bottom.

You are way off on the coaster too. Anyone who grew up in the
NY area will recognize the Cyclone from Steeplechase park in Coney Island, At least that's what the sugn sez. ;)

Y'know, as soon as I said "DeVille", I thought that maybe it wasn't, because of that trim on the bottom. It's amazing how quick the big Caddies did a 180, style-wise, from the overblown, in-your-face 1959 to the understated, almost wallflowerish in comparison 1960.

I didn't used to like the 60, but I saw a couple at the Carlisle swap meet this past weekend. Nice car in person, although I prefer the '61-62.

And yeah, I know that thing wasn't a Jumbo Jet, although I think Coney Island DID have a Jumbo Jet at one time. It was a mass-produced roller coaster with toboggan-type cars, compact steel thing. We had one here local at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.

I always associated the Comet with this old wooden roller coaster that's at Hershey Park, PA, about 2 hours away. I dunno how old that coaster is, but my Grandmother remembers riding it when she was in high school!

AMC Spirit. Those white-letter tires are soooooo cool :P
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
suppose it could be a Spirit AMX since it has the Goodyear RWL tires which were std on the AMX.

That switch is for directionals. The adjusting knob is the knobby ring behind the steering wheel.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yep it's an AMX, ca. 1979-80.

It's Wartburg's attempt at a little sporty car before everything got especially dreary in the DDR. Looks like a 190SL and a 1950 Frigidaire had a baby.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yep, it's a 1962 Wartburg Sports. The Berlin Wall went up in 1961 (IIRC) so life in East Germany was already pretty awful. :(

Well, I meant before the Trabi-days. The east was dreary from May-1945 onwards.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
It's British, I have seen this before but I can't remember what it is. A Lagonda or something? ca. 1955 anyway.
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
The car is actually a 1980 AMC Spirit. The 1979 Spirit had a different grille and the AMX (both years) had ANOTHER different grille.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
Isn't this the one that (with AWD) they compared to the BMW in TV ads? Starting out in gravel, some such nonsense!
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
The AMC Eagle SX/4 was the four-wheel drive version. The AMC Spirit was a rear-wheel drive only model.
