Mercedes E-class wagon of some sort, can't see much there Fiat wagon, I want to say Tempra? BMW 5 series Peugoet 306? Ford Mondeo Ford Escort Ford Mondeo again the hatch I do not recognize...
In the middle, behind I see a B5 Passat wagon and I think a Corolla wagon.
Yeah it's an R107 of indeterminate model, 350SL or 450SL. Relatively new at the time of the film. Stuff on the right is interesting too - NSU 1200, Alfa, VW transporter.
At first, I thought it was a Fiat, too. It's actually a Renault Laguna wagon. And I wish I could give you the name of the mystery hatchback just ahead of the Volkswagen Vanagon...but I can't.
It's easy to get 'em confused but I'm pretty sure the yellow one is either a GTV-2000 or a 1600 GT Junior (1970-77), essentially the same car w different engines. Don't ask me which.
Why Alfa came up w a completely different name when the motor is the only real change I can't tell you. Even more confusion reigns w the single headlight variants. :confuse:
The gray car is an Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III, ca. '65-'67.
I don't think that's a stock paint job, very handsome though.
Notice the number "130" in cursive script on the Porsche 986 Boxster. No doubt that's a tribute to James Dean whose Porsche 550A ("L'il [non-permissible content removed]") wore the same number>
I'm sure someone will tell us what the other two cars in this picture are.
White station wagon is a 1955 Ford Country Squire. Black sedan is a 1953-54 Cadillac.
Yep the '55 Country Squire is probably Dean's, according to Wikipedia he bought one after he finished making East of Eden. V8 powered wagons were the tow vehicles of choice in the 50s and 60s. If you knew someone with a racecar, boat or camper trailer the chances are they also owned a wagon to tow it.
Speaking of James Dean, 'nother Indiana boy, the James Dean annual show, ride, etc., were held in Fairmount, IN, last week with the show expecting "thousands" of cars on Saturday. It was sponsored by the Clusterbustershotrod Club in Indianapolis.
COMPARO: This car drove really well. I was quite surprised. It was not an animal at all and handled great. It reminded me of the Porsche 928 except in build quality, fit and finish of course...but with the Saleen suspension (the "special" Saleen which you all have not yet identified as today's Mystery Car), it was rock solid on the road.
Plenty of pep---felt like about 300 horses more or less. It didn't have that big block grunt but you could definitely end up on the California chain gang without any trouble.
I'd guess this is about a 5.8 second car. Just a WAG. So it's no Vette but it can still duke it out with most 2007s.
Funny, getting back into my Scion...I felt like the clutch pedal was broken and that the engine died---LOL! It took ten minutes for me to stop driving like it was my first time.
I thought the VW bus wasn't named "Vanagon" until the late 1980's? And that one was water cooled.
We just always called them a microbus... The Type 2 (Microbus) was replaced by the Vanagon around 1980. The "wasserboxer" (water-cooled) version came online a few years later. The Vanagon was replaced by the Caravelle/EuroVan in the early 1990s.

I don't think you can tell 135 or 128 by that picture.

Surely someone can be a little more specific on the mustard yellow Alfa parked in front of the VW Transporter, anyone?

I get those Alfa coupes confused.

Using a truck was nearly unheard of.

I would have given my right pinkie to be able to ride over (90 miles?) to see the cars. Maybe next year.

This is a special car, not the normal Saleen.

I don't think I could ever afford a real 550 spyder.
What do real 550s in good condition go for?
