I did reboot, and both yesterday and today I didn't use any buttons other than " post my message " . I don't even know what the img or url buttons do, so I didn't touch them ( like I never use the little logos of smiling cars etc either ). All I did was use copy and paste on my own machine, to just drop the entire text in to the box.

Sorry, but I appreciate your help, and if anyone out there can identify the car which you have now posted ....

I'm going to try again with another picture from the same source. Do I use the img button as part of the process, or is that just if something goes wrong ?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229

Obviously I'm missing something - the message is half as long now, and the picture showed up on preview, but has now disappeared...

    twice..

third time I tried the img button, which doesn't make any difference...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Clearly I had better stop trying to post pictures, as I can't get them to open. It still amazes me that you all do this without any apparent problem, while I only did this once, yesterday, and it hasn't worked, over several attempts today.

Does anyone else on this site use flickr for their pictures ?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Sorry - I am grateful for your help, but it really is frustrating,as I have loads of photos I want to use, but have no idea what I am doing wrong...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
    ">">">

Sorry, folks, but this showed up fine on the preview, and again when I tried to post it went to a shortened code....
First I used img button before then before and after, third time just after. And I am not using url button, whatever that does, as suggested above. I know this is a car forum not a computer enthusiast site, but I can't reboot every time I want to post, and anyway, I've done that four times now....

Re the italics, there's an Italics button above the Emotorcons that you probably clicked without noticing. The others are Bold, Underline, Strikeout, font size etc.)

I have trouble posting images that live on my CarSpace page - I have to post and then edit the html code to strip out the border= stuff. Some bug that's on the list to be fixed around here.

Here's the Help FAQ on posting a photo, but it sounds like you are doing everything right.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,676
    Check your carspace emails.

You should click the img button first one time,

    then paste in
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/22340414@N04/2152276050
which is your picture. You might try taking off extra things on the end after the 215276050 after you paste it in

then click the img button the second time to close the html code for an image.

    image

Your posting should look like the last line circled in RED in this picture of my post. You can even try typing in those characters starting with the

    image

Those don't have to be entered with the img button. It's just a lot easier than typing in the html code.

I had to do a right-click copy image location - using the URL in the address bar failed (your Fiat pic from Magnette's Flickr site isn't showing up for me Imidazol97 - if you see it, it's probably because it's cached on your computer).
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Sorry you're having so much trouble, Magnette. I'd love to see your pictures.

Are you confusing the I (for Italics) button with the Img button? You don't need the Url button except for hyperlinks. Perhaps you can find an acquatance or family member who is familiar enough with html to guide you, they needn't be an expert, in fact a kid would probably know. ;)

The screwy Jaguar-looking thing is a Mitsuoka New Viewt, it's based in Nissan March mechanicals.

I'll admit I had to look that one up, but at least I knew where to look.

Correct on the Viewt - that was taken just round the corner from were Ilive - a grey-import..

correction: the part circled in red is what your image part of a post should look like. Steve was right  (of course).

Note after the > symbol there's a vertical bar thats just the text entry marker--it doesn't get typed in... :)

Yep, I'm seeing that yellow one (and the other Fiat one did start showing up for me - beats me!).
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
I'm told by my better half ( she uses Flickr all day for her work) that I'm doing something they don't like as they try to steer people away from exporting pictures with url type links ( whatever!) Anyway, I'm glad someone can see my pictures.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,676
    Steve,

I reloaded the img link for the one post that may be why you started getting it. I stripped everything out of my cache and temp files with Cleanup!.exe and found my first link may have working because it was cached on my computer--which is what you suggested.

    Ah, k.

To get the "real" URL for many sites, in IE7, right click on the image and select properties. Then copy the URL there.

In FireFox 2.x, you can right click and Copy Image Location to get the URL.

That's how I got the Flickr photo to work for me.

How long have computers been around - 30 something years? You'd think this stuff would just work by now....

Hmm, light blue block...Pontiac something,... 389 CID?

Edelbrock manifold and non-stock valve covers...I just can't place it... i t doesn't look like a Firebird or Goat. :confuse:

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
It is a Vauxhall, but not strictly based on the Ascona, or at least I don't think so...
Clue - it is the last series of a well known Vauxhall brand....

Meanwhile, anybody got a clue on the yellow roadster or the Fiat jeep thing if any of you can see it,( and bonus points for the make of the red jeep-thing behind....).
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,676
    Pontiac is right

    389 CID is not

    Not Firebird
    Not GTO

The car carries special identifying chrome on sides and trunk.
For me the color seems unique. I don't know if regular models got this color too and not may existed/survived or if it was unique for this equipped model.

I'm late to this question, but if you start a line with a lower case "i" the whole line ends up in italics (and the lower case i does not show up, which is the clue to what happened). This is a WebCrossing "feature". :P
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,422
I cheated and read the badge...it's one of the last of the Vauxhall Victor line
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,676
His source code looks like it was in the middle of a line and he clicked the italics button.

Are you saying if i just put an i like that it will do italics without putting the html markers?

    i can try

Yes, fintail, it's a Vauxhall Victor FE estate from 1974/5 - I think the whole of this site is creaky tonight - it just took three attempts to post this reply.

ps - Because of the time difference, I can't really post something late in your day - it's already 10.09 pm here - so i won't post any answers for previous posts ie yellow car, or Fiat thing, until tomorrow..

pps - note the lack of italics despite my typo in the middle of the previous sentence.
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Well I've seen it before on this site so maybe there are also other circumstances that I don't know.

    i give up :-D
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,676
I understand. I'm still trying to make resizing my graphics work once again like it used to long ago when I first started posting.
    I.e., img src.... http://www.picturepage.2397.jpg" width="370" height="290">

    Is that the right template?

You need a starting " before the http, but otherwise I think that will work. Except the picture link itself looks kinda hinky, obviously it has to be right. :)

Edit: there's some other stuff I tried to show you here, but I can't keep it from getting interpreted so let me just give you an example without the angle brackets:

    So we would have

    (img src="http://www.picturepage.2397.jpg" width="370" height="290")

but you replace the parens with the angle brackets - and confirm the correct URL for the image, of course. :)

It occurred to me that it might be a 326 but the motor shot just didn't look
like a Tempest or F-Bird to me.

That rear shot is odd to me on two counts:

-I don't recall any Hurst edition '64 Tempest or LeMans and I was heavily into
    Ponchos back then.

-I don't recall fender mounted tail lights on any '64 Tempest, or LM. They
should be on the rear panel like this 326 convertible>

    Was your Hurst a custom?

  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
From my brief search, it seems that the fender mounted taillights were on the Tempest while the rear-mounted taillights were on the LeMans versions. Anyone confirm or dispute this?
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,676
I wrote that it was a V6 and it's a V8. I took that the year is1964 because that's the license plate for the antique plates it carried. (The owners can use those plates but have to have real, current plates in the trunk)

I wish I could say those were before my time and I don't recall the variations on models and taillights.

I did read in Wiki that the GTO existed in 1964.

That rear looks like the earlier post.

Did we ever guess what that banana split was called? :D

I would have guessed Daihatsu or some other small Asian make.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Glad you asked... The yellow little roadster was actually an Acrea Zest, made in France, with a 550cc engine, and it has been in limited production since 2005.

The green Fiat jeep-thing I had so much trouble posting is a Campagnola, made from 1979-87, although I think this was one of the later ones. Behind it the red truck is a Tata, from India...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The rather nifty little grey coupe does look a bit like a miniature E-Type,from that angle, but is actually quite a stubby little thing, although it does have a fine reputation in specialist sports car circles. It's a Rochdale Olympic II, made from 1962 to 67, or so. It had a Ford engine, generally 1100cc/1300cc, but suitably modified they were good for over 100mph, and quite economical, but in fairness the build quality was a bit poor, and most of them were sold as kits anyway. Because they are fibreglass and have always been enthusiasts cars, they tend to survive in reasonable numbers, although it is very much a British thing - I doubt many ( if any ) were exported...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, it's anything but boring. I should have guessed it was French. ;)
