    It doesn't look like one in that shot - The fuel filler is in the wrong place. I've just Googled the film title and they appear to be driving a Lancia - they even have a shot on Google Images that shows the registration..

    You may be right Magnette, there are some shots in the film where they're definitely driving a white Aurelia and others where it appears they're driving a Guilietta.>

    Looks like Plywood but it's good ole GM Plastic Wood. AFAIK some Rivs had it and others didn't.

    This is the Lancia although from this angle it looks like an Alfa. The fuel filler is wrong on the first picture posted for an Alfa - and the car shown in this post (no.14426) has the same Rome registration as the front end of the car shown on some of the other clips. I think the reference to the Alfa in the link is to a car in the background of that shot, as the next shot shows the same guys in the same car, but refers to an Auto Union, which is in the background. Having said that, in some of the shots the Lancia doesn't look white.
    In this scene, the approaching car is an Opel (Rekord, I think).

    That shape on the "tailfins" for the rear always bothers me. Either have fins or don't have fins. Those are cobbled up. It just doesn't look right to. Of course I wouldn't have kicked a free one out of my garage....

    You're a little off, it's a '65 220SEb. It looks great to me, fins, RHD and all. Perhaps
    Fintail or someone can tell us the significance of the "b".

    The (b) just denotes the second series of car to wear the '220SE' name - the first being the ponton cars from 57/58-60.

    Some people refer to those muted fins as simply 'small fins', I don't count them at all.

    Personally I count them as some of the most beautiful M-Bs of all time. :shades:
    Not only do they hark back to when M-B made the world's best-built cars but also when they were at their peak in style,design and engineering. Am I wrong?

    The 220/250/280/300SE coupes and cabrios are indeed some of the most timeless cars of history. MB really got it right inside and out with them.

    They were kind of the last of the old cars, along with the fintails. I attribute it to somewhat of a prewar overengineering mentality and product strategy still existing simply due to the age of the people in control. As younger people took control, the direction changed somewhat. By the 107/116 cars, and the squareline lower models, times were changing.

    I don't think it looks too bad with those nubs. Makes me think a bit of the Mopar "plucked chickens" of circa 1962, where they tried to shave the fins off, but you could tell that they were meant to be there. Cars like the '62 Imperial, '62 Chryslers, and '62 Dodge Custom 880 really evidenced this. The '63 Valiants also looked a bit like that.

    I think that Benz vert would look better with proper fins, though. I've heard it was popular in the late 60's for the fins to get shaved off the sedans, in an attempt to go for a more modern look. I wonder if anybody ever thought in the opposite direction, and tried grafting fins onto the convertible or hardtop?

    It's a Toyota Tercel Wagon. Four-wheel drive with a 6-speed manual transaxle complete with creeper first gear. This is a late first generation model.
