That steering wheel reminds me of ones we had in our old 60's era Buicks. Don't know the model, but I'll guess a '61 Buick Wildcat. When did padded dashes show up anyway?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,446
It's one of the ca. 1963 GM intermediates - Buick Special etc, I don't know which one, but I recognize that gauge cluster and the HVAC controls on the left.
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
Check the transmission tunnel though--it's nearly flat. Might this be a rope-shaft Pontiac Tempest? Or even a Corvair?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
'63 was my first guess, but none of the pics I skimmed seemed to fit. Of course, none of the '61 pics fit either, lol.

Sure looks like a Buick logo on the steering wheel, Stephen.

You kinda hedged there but it is indeed a Rope-Drive Tempest, in this case a '63 LeMans 326.

The steering wheel hub is tough for me to make out. I want to see crossed flags or soemthing.

I am pretty sure it's a Tempest/LeMans or one of its siblings.

    EDIT - there it is

    Looks like a Dodge Aspen -- '78 or '79?
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
Dodge Aspen, '76-77. My dad's brother had one, a silver Aspen wagon with a 318 V8 and four speed manual.

Hard to see it. There's a checkerboard pattern, which at first glance made me think of the Chevy crossed-flags emblem.

My grandmother's cousin had a '79 Volare wagon. Two tone black-over-silver, with a red interior. It was actually a pretty sharp looking car. She got rid of it in 1996, selling it for $300. I needed a car at the time, but thankfully some other family member beat me to it so I never had to endure it. It had a 225 slant six, and I remember she was always having carb and choke problems with it. The paint held up well and it never rusted, but the pegboard headliner fell down, and the passenger side door got stuck shut.

One of my college roommates had a green 1977 Dodge Aspen Special Edition with a taupe cloth interior. It was actually a pretty plush little car for the time.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
It's a '77 Aspen, which I should post over in the "50 Worst cars" topic. :P

    68 or 69 Plymouth Barracuda?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
We had a bet going in the Subaru Chat tonight. 9 minutes - you're good.

    It's a 1967 Barracuda with a 1969 nose. :-) 273 V8.

Daimler Conquest Roadster - mid fifties...

And although it is a bit of an ugly beast, there have been plenty worse, in my humble opinion (their later 250V8/Dart, for a start).

You be the judge folks, Daimler Dart?>

    or Daimler Conquest?>

(They're both hideous but IMO the V8 inder the hood of the Dart (SP250) makes it the more desireable.).

I vote for the Dart - it has some kind of grouper/catfish look going, really bizarre+ugly. The Conquest is way overdone, but lacks the really weird look.

I've been looking for that car for about 14 years. Check out this picture I took way back when...

It's a home-built from the late 1950s, but I couldn't place the bodywork. Until now.

..never figured Dagwood for a Saabaru kinda guy, but the grille, headlights, corner lights, hood badge & roof rack suggest it's a 9-2x (base, not Aero), a car that'll be a great mystery pix question in a few decades. :P
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 266,426
I didn't even think of what model it might be..

But, it's definitely a Saab with ski racks... :)

59 Ford hearse, German style. Bizarre.

Yep, it appeared in Funeral in Berlin (1966). A poster at IMCDB sez these conversions were done at Pollman Karosseriefabrik of Bremen/ Germany.

Yup, it's the same car that appeared in the 1954 movie Johnnie Dark:

I don't mind the big mouth look, but why does the fog light opening have to be surrounded in so much black plastic.
