It is not the car in which Kennedy was assassinated. Kennedy's was a 1961 Lincoln, the "X100". After the assassination, it was rebuilt, making it armored, and used by Johnson, Nixon, Ford, and Carter. It is on display in Dearborn, Michigan. I stood next to it.

    Yep, it's Nixon's '69 Lincoln Continental.

    Sunbeam Harrington. With Japanese-market mirrors???

EDIT: Judging from the outsize script on the front fender, it's a Sunbeam Harrington Le Mans. More info at the Sunbeam Harrington club site.

That's correct Stephen. The forward mounted Raydot racing mirrors were often seen on British sportscars of the early '60s.

That appears to be a 1947 Cadillac Series 62 Club Coupe or "sedanette."

Amazingly, I spotted one of these on Saturday, in the parking lot of our local K-Mart.. Not sure of the year, but pretty darn close!

Avanti II/III/IV, who knows what year (except it has to be after that rear brake light was required)?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,528
CHMSLs were required starting in 1986...

OK, then I'll guess a 1988 Avanti convertible...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
    Not a bad guess, it's a 1990.

It's from the late 40s/early 50s, and has eyes painted on the windshield :confuse:
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Maybe it's Doc Hudson from Cars. :D

Not surew what year car Doc Hudson was, but the eyes on the windshield and the stock car racing book on the seat suggest an early '50s Hudson Hornet.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
    That's it Lemko, it's a "Stepdown" Hornet ('51-'54)>

    Rover P2000 - late 60's or early 70's.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
The correct name is Rover 2000TC, non-twin cam models (UK) were known as Rover 2000/P6.

    Siata V8 coupe, by Zagato?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,522
Fiat 8V...I'll guess an Italian builder ;)
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Stephen is correct, it is Zagato bodywork (note the "double bubble" roof) and so is Fin, it's a Fiat Otto Vu.

It took two of you but you got the answers. ;)

I seem to remember that there were a lot of different bodies offered on the Otto Vu. Here's one of the weirdest:

Yeah, that's Ghia all right, though it sort of reminds me of Bertone's Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, or Flying Saucer.

    image

There's also more than a passing resemblance to another set of Bertone Alfa concept cars, the B.A.T. show cars:

I'd say Triumph Spitfire Mk III, ca. 1970.

EDIT: interesting exhaust and minilite wheels. Might this be a Spitfire 6?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Nope not a 6, just a 1974 Mk III (UK spec) w aftermarket add-ons, note forward mounted twin mirrors.

    1970 or 1971 Mercury Montego 2-door hardtop

    Mid-80's Lotus Excel.

I nearly forgot it was yet another car that shared its name with a "lesser" make (in this case, Hyundai  ).

....Kinda like the Volvo 850 & BMW 850.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
It's a later Excel SE from 1991. I find it easy to confuse the Excel with the similar but earlier Eclat.

Wow. The styling looks sort of Camry/ES350ish. So my first guess was that this is some sort of JDM Camry variant.

Then I noticed that the badge looks like the defunct Rover one. And the car doesn't appear to be RHD.

    So I'm stuck.
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
Unless the picture is flopped, it appears to be LHD. And it's the Roewe 550.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
You're right Hudson, it's the Roewe 550, a shorter variant of the Roewe 750, which was a clone of the Rover 750. They're made by Nanjing Motors of China. The same car is sold by Nanjing in Chile as the MG550.
