    Willys Jeep, I'd say a CJ2A, ca. 1953.

    Yup, it's a Willys CJ-2A but not a '53. CJ-2As we made '46-'49, that one's a '47. The CJ-3A replaced it in 1950

The picture for this won't show up on my laptop. I tried going directly to the link and carspace wants me to sign in. I'm already recognized as signed in automatically when I use a favorites link to come to the forum.

    Any idea what's wrong?

Pix didn't show up until I hit "reply" button. Strange. Boz

Don't know the plane, but I think the car's a BMW 2002 Cabriolet. A Baur conversion?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
2 of my favorites in one - 1972ish 2002 cabriolet (better looking than the Baur targa top version, IMHO) and a P-51D Mustang, painted to match "Sizzlin Liz", "piloted by Major Gerald Montgomery as part of the 334th Fighter Squadron with the 4th Fighter Group based at Dresden in 1945. A two-tour ace, Montgomery claimed both aerial and ground kills during his time in the ETO-his final tally was 3 aerial victories and 14.5 strafing victories. This was his penultimate P-51 in-theater, and he used it to claim 4 strafing kills in February and April of 1945."

Let's see if this one gives anyone login or viewing problems:

Yup. Didn't show up until I hit the "Reply" button. No idea what the car is. Would guess 1946-48 era though.

*Sigh.* Login and pic viewing issues are tough, since everyone's computer is setup differently. All I can suggest is to clear your browser's cache, and perhaps log out and log back in.

Mod_Bob can't see four of my newest photo album pics either so it even happens to hosts. But he's always having computer problems. :P

I'm having another issue on my CarSpace page so maybe that's related, but other people can see my pics fine.

Oh, the year is a bit later supposedly, but it's one of those post war critters.

Well truthfully, I couldn't tell just from the hood ornament. I just remembered that in the movie, most of those street scenes were from Jimmy Stewart's point of view, driving around in his '56 DeSoto Firedome. So I guess that's kind of cheating. :P

    Great movie!

Jimmy Stewart and Alfred Hitchcock made a great team.. I used to have a big-time crush on Kim Novak...

is the link for the picture. It doesn't show when I try the reply like it did for another poster.

When I put the above link into a new page, it takes me to this page

I looked in your carspace page and found the picture thumbnail. But when I click on the thumbnail I don't get the big picture; I just get the box with the X.

Maybe if you repost the picture into your CarSpace it will show up.

Thanks for fessing up. I was impressed with recognizing what's a blur on my viewing of the picture. But then it's a DeSoto and if anyone knows Chrysler products it's andre1969.

Those were the days of strong hood ornaments. I found a site of just hood ornaments when I was looking for something or other months ago.

You're right on the money w the P-51D but a little off on the car, It's a 1970 BMW
    1600 Cabriolet
, a model that I don't think was ever imported here so it's prolly a gray market Eurocar.

OK - if anyone's a plane nut, you can get a Corgi of that P-51D:

I think your login problem is different from the Red X problem and the autologin issue is supposed to be fixed today.

Here's another link to the reuploaded pic, but I'm not holding my breath, especially since I can make it fail. :)

IT is going to be working on my page so maybe it's just me.

Can anyone see my pic and if so, are you using Firefox?
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
    Steve, I can't see it in IE6.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
I can see the pic via link of Firefox 3. It looks like a 1950's Volga sedan.

IT is working on the pic posting issue.

    And you're pretty warm, Andy.

I can see the thumbnail but not the full sized picture that should be above the thumbnails.

I downloaded FireFox again and tried it and same thing happens, can't see it.

I can see it now, using the last link you posted. I think it's a GAZ M20 Pobeda (Victory) sedan.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Oh good, maybe the tweaks worked this morning.

And yeah, it's a 1951 Russian Pobeda (Victory). This one was sold in Finland to a LA businessman new for $1500.

Not sure, it's obviously JDM so I'll say Toyota Corona ca. 1960.

Japanese, yes, despite the Ford Falcon-esque styling and a few borrowed Italian cues.

    But not Toyota.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,033
I have no idea, but it looks to me more like something late 60's, like around a 1968 or 1969 something or other. Wouldn't a 1960 Toyota still look outdated, like it really belonged in 1955?

Not quite. But it's not as sleek, that's for sure. image

I say it's a Datsun of some sorts. Bluebird, or something... Datsuns always had funky names in their home market, and this one to me resembles somethng a Datsun would build.

It does bear a resemblance to the mid-Sixties Nissan Bluebird (Datsun R410) pictured below, but no.

The grill looks a bit like an English Ford?
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
It does look a little like an English Ford Cortina Mk2:

    image

and a little like an Alfa GTV:

    image

and even a little like a Bristol 411:

    image

and here's the fun part: it predates all three--though in the Alfa's case only by a few weeks.

    Here's the mystery car again:

Well, its an Isuzu - probably a Bellett - and about 1966
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
Bingo! It's an Isuzu Bellett. They were produced from 1963 through 1973. I'm not sure of the year of this one.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Right over on the other balcony of this building, which I presume is a Japanese car museum, there are a couple of other cars. I don't know what the blue car is, but to the left of it, obscured by the pillar etc, is a white Austin Cambridge A50 (or maybe A40) - Nissan made those under licence in the mid-fifties, so I would imagine it's one of those.

    '72 (I think) Buick Skylark GS--not sure if it's GS350 or GS400.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,462
There was actually a Bellett for sale on the local Craigslist not long ago, a mid 60s sedan. It wasn't just a Bellett, but a Bellett diesel. I bet parts for that are easy to come by.

I would imagine that any of the pre-GM-clone Isuzus (Bellett, Bellel, and 117) would be virtually impossible to find parts for.

Then again, it could be worse. The mechanicals are bad enough, but try finding trim pieces for one of these, posted several months ago on this forum:

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,462
Now that I think of it more, it was a Bellel, not a Bellett. I have to wonder how it came to be here, were those early cars ever officially imported to NA?

    It was something like this:

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The red car is a Hino COntessa ( evolved from the Renault Dauphine etc....)
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
You're close Stephen, it's a 1970 Buick Gran Sport 455/Stage1 so it's probably the fastest of the GS series. I think by 1970 Buick had dropped the "Skylark" name from the Gran Sports.

My WAG is a bug eyed Sprite.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,125
    I'm thinking more TR-3...
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
The headlight is way too far forward to be a Bugeye Sprite. It might be a TR2/TR3, but if so, it's pre-1957 (i.e., not a TR3A).

I'm wondering, though, if it's something else entirely. Something completely off the wall, like a Hanomag or a Tatra.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Beautiful car. Why can't Detroit style them like that anymore?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
You're right on the money, Stephen, it is a (pre-'57) Triumph TR-3 that has been prepped for rallying. Picture here.

FWIW my '66 TR-4A wore the same style of disc wheel (painted off-white w small hubcaps).
